OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Take, I don’t know, let’s say B Marshall from Whakatane, NZ. Did his thing, happy to play second fiddle to Scott Prince until the opportunity/timing was right.

LG has been given a saloon passage into a regular starting halves role in a rapidly improving team with a representative half along side him and one of the all time greats as his coach. He’s basically served no apprenticeship, he got a starting role because we were weak and lacked alternatives. He could have ridden this wave to finals football and who knows what. He’s passed that up for who knows what. A lead role in the Parramatta shitshow? A club who said he wasn’t up to it? It’s amazing his people remember every perceived slight by us but maybe he ends up back there.
It was implied by Chammas and Weidler that the reason he got the rolls Royce treatment was because he threatened to leave to and asked for releases .
Straight up the only reason he leapt frogged Latu , was because Latu as injured until mid season .

Also just in continuation of this , Sullivan was given first crack , and it was supposed to be Sullivan and Sezer .
Sullivan was soo bad we had to go with Galvin . If Sullivan had played like he is this year .. Galvin spends the year in Flegg , we keep The Large brothers , because Galvin leaves and Fainu is the gun 19 year old everyone is gushing over .
So it’s all Sullivan fault haha !

Media mentioned Luai was frustrated with having to change his game to accommodate LG. Are we buying that? Has anyone heard anything specifically to back it up. The eye test does indicate he plays differently to how he was at Penrith but isn’t that what he wanted to do, be the game manager?

Second to that, he might of come to the club to be our HB but I wonder if Benji is happy to try and accommodate this whilst also mindful that he too suffered a heap in his game when moved closer to the action in 2012 at the request of Sheens.
Is Luai back in the 6 and back to the playmaker?
Does this responsibility (game manager) now fall on Doueihi and later Latu to get Luai in positions?

That’s spin from Galvins team . Luai would have been frustrated that he made all these accommodations yet Galvin was still behaving like an ingrate . As would anyone in his position .

Gotta say that on field, I've been so disappointed in him so far.

Let's say he's able to organise the team, get them together and .make them feel like one. But, his main job as the main half is
1. 5th tackle options
2. Organise attack in opp 20

He's let us down in both things. We look lost in opp 20 each and every game.

He's had maybe 2 or 3 try assists. I understand trying to give Galvin control and all, but with the possession we've had, he's been shocking.

I feel like all his angles and the depth he works at is wrong. I know Sam Fainu seems to be injured but he's been kept super quiet as well.

I know he can do it, but I hope he gets his mojo back.

Sorry, but it has to be said. I love the guy, but his not playing like a 1.5 million dollar player. The little kick he put in in the last minute of regular time, instead of going long when they had a howling wind at their back could have cost us big time. It was a rookie error. It won’t be talked about cos we won, but it was poor play. He’s been underwhelming.

On individual form, it’s hard to argue with criticism of Luai. But the team has a steeliness about it despite outperformed in the forwards most weeks. Terrell May and Romey I think have brought a lot of intangibles and in dollar terms, probably earning their keep.

Luai looks better when we get some momentum in games (like most halves) and we need to add a bit more punch in the pack so we can dominate games for longer.

Looks like just another player, but getting highly overpaid. Showing bugger all so far, maybe that’s why Coach Cleary bagged him then let him go. Maybe be he saw it coming.

I’m no footy expert, but can anyone explain the logic or lack of for his flat runs along the line and just passes to a big guy for a hit up? Is it to create space for a far side shift or what because they seem hopeless to me 95% of the time

He's created tries at Origin level. He used to kill it with Kikau and when critta used to play on the Left. All throughout Juniors, he's played well as a halfback as well.

He can do it. I know he can.

It needs to be HIS team. Galvins best asset is his fitness but that doesn't mean we just keep giving him the ball and say here do your best.

I think he has another gear we haven't seen yet.
This team will improve throughout the year and more time they spend together.

Unfortunately I don't think the pairing of him and Galvin is ideal.
Too many sets we have guys walking into the defence or getting driven backwards. That’s nota platform for Romey. His skill set is most valuable in broken play. Need more punch.

Agreed. They seem to be both high touch dominant halves.
Feel at times he looks a little lost as to when to play his natural game or let Galvin run the show.
I think we will be better in the second half of the season.

Penrith played with bodies in motion , lot like 05 WT's .We aren't smart enough or fit enough to constantly stay in shape while running decoys.. Or our up n comers move to slow for Romy to calculate

Agree.

With Romey and Gal, clearly both talented players but not gelling as a pairing.

Should see a different plan when Latu replaces Galvin
