OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

One thing I have noticed again this season is that in A we simply don’t have enough bodies in motion. As a ball player you need to have options with guys running into gaps and pushing up with you. We are horribly predictable, running one out and we provide easy targets, inevitably losing the ruck.
There is no movement at all and often no one to pass the ball to. Hence we often have Latu and Luai running around in circles trying to create something. Last week AD ran straight and dug into the line before passing but he had our halves moving up with him. Whereas our halves often have no runners at all.
The good teams move up in waves off the ball players with guys either straightening up or running lines.
Earlier in the season we played a much more dynamic style. We let the ball go through the hands early and had quicker ptbs. There was a lot more motion. We also offloaded more and supported the ball carrier better. We need to get back to this style.

Luai needs to improve no doubt but really don't think he is the issue at all. In fact, I very much believe he has improved our team - improved it as much as 1.3m should? No, he hasnt. But we actually can't even spend our cap so at the moment the whole "is he worth the price tag" is a silly point.

Which top line player are we going to sign? It's honestly fairy tale stuff. He is the only decent player that had numerous options and chose us. Luai is also at least someone that other players would want to play with.

We should be doing what we can to keep him here as our long term 5/8. Bula, Api, Luai and Latu can get us to the finals if we build a decent team/squad around them.

All you say is inarguable. My point is that at that salary and with that reputation he should deliver more. He IS the Nathan Cleary for the Tigers! He has the proven ability to run the ball and when he does that he has the opposition at sixes and sevens but to merely be given the ball on the 5th and then kick down the middle doesn't justify his value. We all know he is better than that.....what's going on??
If you check his previous seasons stats for 23 and 24, he's doing about the same as he's always done. He doesn't really make many line breaks, assists or score many tries. No real long kicking game either. He's pretty good with his short kicking and maintaining the defensive structure plus good vibes and all that.

I was laughed at when I said this when we signed him, but the stats were there for all to see. I think @rugbygoated got a few pastings when he mentioned it at the time too. Don't expect more, because he's never given much more than what we are getting. He is our better version of Dylan Brown.

If pe

He says the guy is hopeless , then later he will be able to exercise his get out clause and leave the club .. who else pays a useless player $1.2m a year ?
Hooper writes content for orang-utans. Nothing he has ever written had anything approaching insight. This is the dullest form of the argument I was making and it's probably because it was the only part of it he understood.

3 of our top 30 is currently playing Ron Massey cup. Royce hunt is on around 600k playing 20 minutes in NSW cup. Saukuru is in our top 30 and playing jersey flegg. Naden is on 400k and is a million miles of first grade quality. Those six players are taking up almost 2m of our cap.

Our back row this week is Douiehi, Sukkar and seyfarth. None of them would make any other team, let alone all three at once.

Talk about Luai being our issue is honestly bonkers.

Like seriously, Royce hunt is getting paid the same as our entire starting backrow this week. Our squad is MISERABLY out of shape.

We have a terrible group of players. Our position on the ladder is honestly a pretty accurate reflection of our squad, maybe even slightly over performing.

I understand the impatience.

But just because we’ve had crap players for ages doesn’t mean this group of crap players should be making the finals.

Tanah Boyd outplayed Luai, he is probably on a quarter or what luai is on. Luai isn't a bad player its more the fact he isn't worth 1.2 million dollars and you can find someone who can do a better job worth 400k. Thats the issue.

Jarome has gone from a 4 peat to a 3 peat the difference is as big as you can get. It stands to reason that it would take more than one quality player to turn this ship given the amount of quality players he played with to achieve the 4 peat. False hope one player never ends well.

What about Terrell May ? Is he quality as well?

Yeah he is not as good as people make out but he has helped get Turuva and May here. Add to that his defence and effort plus other positives.

Don't mind him here but we overpaid him 300k too much a year.
