OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

He has brought in ATTITUDE and TOUGHNESS to our team.

He has vastly improved our team and his leadership especially him barking orders greatly improves our team and we now have that dog in us.

Yes i feel he has other gears to get to, but right now he is doing what he needs to do and we are winning

He's always been overrated as a player. He's a good 5/8th. Never been better than the 10th-15th best half in the league imo.

1.2mil a year for him based on strictly footballing was never going be a good deal. But if he works out as a leader and gets the players to give 110%, then it could be worth it.

Doesn’t he have the best win/loss % in the game atm? Better than Cleary?

Hughes, Cleary, Moses, maybe DCE are the only halves who could be better than him IMO

He is definitely top 5

i haven't noticed Jarome being vocal in the game ,most direction seems to come from Api . I did like today J L slide across to galvins preferred side to put a few better placed kicks in then precious would have ,considering how tight the game was late in the day

I mentioned on the live thread that behind the posts he is a huge talker and brings everyone together. It's not just after tries but all the time. Without him they looked flat and directionless, not really sure where to look. I also think we are underestimating his production. I think his passing is sharp and he is involved in a lot. I don't think our kicking game is very good, and so I wish he took more control of that. I'm not sure why that hasn't happened yet. But I look around the league and there are very few halves I'd prefer.
Adam Reynolds produced a masterclass the other nite, and DCE not far behind
Genuine no 7s..which I dont think our guy is
But I credit him predominantly with changing the culture of this side and putting us in a position to win, even if he doesnt have the line breaks/try assists etc.
He has the steely edge and influence that is missing from even Api and Benji,as good as they are/were
Just ask the Panthers what theyre missing...

If brown is worth 1.2 then Luai is a bargain
Browns worth not much more than half of Knights offer, and has no chance of being an organising 7.
Dumbest recruitment decision ever
Think rite now Panthers wld pay a bit more than their final offer($850k?) to Luai..?
And I think that was his point...he brings a lot of intangibles to the team that go unnoticed and undervalued

He does, but I still think it's more a reflection him being a part of successful teams rather than him being the reason for them being successful.

I just watch him and fail to see anything that really stands out. Jack of all trades but master of none. No real weaknesses either but will seldom do something special that can really impact a game.

You mite have missed SOO last year where he broke the game wide open ...or the zillion critical tackles he makes for us every game covering up other players fails
But yes..I was expecting more in attack /kicking game where we are still clunky and struggling, and am sure hes got more to offer...but lets see it sooner rather than later!

I disagree that he seldom does something that really impacts a game.
The guy was a match winner on many, many occasions for Penrith.
And did you see Origin last year?

Having said that, I don’t think he has done any one particular match winning thing for us this year, but he’ll get there and meanwhile his influence and leadership is massive, offensively and defensively.

And I disagree that he wasn’t the reason Penrith were succcesful. He was definitely part of that. Watch Penrith without him, in any of the last few years, or this year. They are simply not as good without him.

Luai has brought a lot of intangible qualities to the side, these are qualities we've lacked for a while and have helped us raise our compete . These things don't show on stat lines but help the greater good.

However he came to the club wanting to take control of his own team. Not live on the coattails of Cleary. Yet so far hes looked extremely reluctant to take the bull by the horns. Even last week with Galvin out Doueihi was the dominant half. He continually seems to pass the buck and leave it to someone else to make or break the match. See today's diabolical field goal effort.

He can do more, he can play much better. But why is he so reluctant to lead the team through performance as well as through voice? 0 line breaks, 0line break assists this season. With the game on the line today, he was 20m out and passed up the field goal to a team mate in a much worse position.

If he really wants to be the man then he needs to start exerting more influence over the match with the ball in his hands. He's shown he can do it, time to show it in Black, orange and white. He's got no chance of origin until he starts delivering with the ball.

We've butted heads a few times in the past but that doesn't mean I can't agree with you

It was obviously a planned setup
The sharks were aware of it though as Adam was 20m back but had kick pressure already on him

He leaves Penrith and now they are coming last on the ladder.
x2.
I think he may either be having trouble getting used to our 'structures' or struggling with getting us to change to structures he know work.
Penrith do have a decided structure in the way they attack.
I feel he has definitely added to our determination in defence. That in itself is worth a lot.

When Latu comes in it will unlock Luai's game even more. He is being hamstrung by Galvin overplaying his hand and hogging the ball.
I think he’s following a game plan better than any half we’ve had
One thing I did think during the game is when he went to the line with fainu on a few occasions the runners were running different lines eg fainu was short mostly but also was out the back
and Adam running a different line
This is good variation of shape that you don’t see with an average half
I believe in the back half of the year it will come together for him
