OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Yes but I remember something about Perth and PNG being able to sign players a couple of years out rather than wait for November deadlines. If so he could activate his clause and PNG sign him for 28 now.
This might be incorrect. I could only find an SMH article saying they had requested permission to do this from the NRL

We should start planning ahead now and bench Luai

We've looked after his family with a mutli-million dollar contract and he still wants to leave

Just select our best team moving forward, Douhie is a much better choice at 5/8

Luai literally hasn't iced 1 game in tiger's colours

The sooner he pisses off the better
Yep can’t argue with this.

It’s probably in both our interest and his that he does go in 2028. To however have this leak and be the talk of the town when we are winning games doesn’t sit well with me at all. Another mid season drama that will be blown up by the media and in the players mind. Unacceptable and very selfish .

Luai has been good for the Tigers and for Benj and im a fan of what he brings in and off the field. That said hes a better second fiddle and probably worth 900k. If he leaves and by 2028 the plan is to play Latu Fainu it would work out well. 5 year deal at 1.5m tax free you cant say no if the family agrees.
Agree, Tyga. Luai may decide to go in 28, and we might have had 2 seasons playing finals by that time. Luai's work will have been done and him moving on actually provides for a seamless transition. Especially if everything's out in the open. Latu, Jock, & Javon have a clear pathway.

You insinuated I was making it up.

Ive also heard it more than once.

He was talking to gus, Terrell was ready to sign, they pulled the contract because they thought they were about to land someone else big (i forget who).

Infact, talking about it has reminded me that Gus Gould even mentioned almost signing Terrell last year.

Just saw Channel 9's new report. He was certainly not trying to be incognito. He was even waving. Either Luai is a complete douche and has no respect for Benji and the club (which he has consistently said he does) or all parties were aware of his visit. It does astound me though that this has occurred basically at the same time of the year that the Galvin blow up occurred last year.
Let him sell his soul to the Devil, who cares - Latu is younger with much more promise anyway.

If Luai ends up staying with us it probably means we would lose Latu Fainu due to lack of opportunity, so it probably works in our favour if he does chase the money being offered by PNG.
Bula would be my choice for 5/8 and captain in that situation, Bula is a brilliant ball player, a rugged defender and a born leader ,, I could see him being the 6 and playing for Australia for the near future

Bula is good . But honestly if we take his option and kick the can down the road and he goes to PNG with luai or the dogs . We have 18 months to really develop attard and Brooke’s . They’re both going to be special .
If we had to bring a fullback in next week to fill in for Bula I’d say Brookes is physically more ready for 1st grade , he is a gun , and strong and lightning quick,, I’d say he’d fit in well with the correct structure

Talk about an overblown story.

A lot of posters have him gone already in 2028, but I think it’s highly unlikely he’ll go to PNG. I think they are going to struggle big time to sign players.

I can’t comments specially about Luai …but don’t underestimate that tax free thing … it’s like double the money …they will get more than Perth ..

Bottomline simple equation. He has until Thursday to trigger his extension. If he only extends for 2027 and not 2028 and 2029, we have an answer. No player wants to create instability that comes from contract extension chatter, unless there is genuinely something happening. I could understand the clause at the start, but we are a good side on the up and there is no reason to keep them in place if he is committed.

I think young single players will consider that in the short term, but I don’t see many elite players with families moving to PNG.

Very different to Perth.
