OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Its more complex than your analogy

How do you feel about Jarome receiving 3rd party payments from PNG during the 2027 season? Because that is one of the things the Wests tigers management had issue with..
I would be asking questions if I was a wests tigers sponsor…like where do I get a refund?

Penrith offered him $850k as reported here

Canterbury fought them right up until the death think they were around a $1m.

API mate not Jerome

I don't have a problem with someone making a dollar

If he's getting PNG payments to promote PNG from now till he starts that's bad because he's a Tiger's player but if it's direct payments and no promotion's of PNG just money into his bank account I don't care about that

I agree with this . But what baffles me is the guy who’s been paid the premium and still has all the leverage , has zero ground to stand on when the client decides they no longer want to apart of the arrangement . Especially after you’ve gone ahead and said , yea I’m out for even more money in 18months . Like I said earlier the social contract was already broken by Jahrome. What kind of mental gymnastics does your mind need to pull to reframe the scenario as you’re the victim .
I’m not anti Romey . He did what I would have done and looked after himself and his family . But the moment you do that , all goodwill is lost . Because as I said the social contract is yes tigers are paying you 300-400k overs , but both parties are now all in together . For better or worse. … and like I said he broke that contract . Because I’m sure the unspoken truth was the get out clauses were tokenism….. until they weren’t.

He's a mercenary and I don't have a problem with it as long as he's not promoting PNG and only the Tigers until he leaves

Apparently that’s where the club has rightfully imo gone wtf romey? He has split loyalties now.rightfully or wrongly , if he’s doing a png mining promotion , he’s not spending that time being invested in wests tigers.
And as if wests tigers and ong stuff wouldn’t conflict. Just say Monday they’re doing video and hydro/recovery and that ends at 2 , and he’s got some PNG mining thing lined up at 3 in hypothetically Moore park , if those sssions go later to 230-245, how engaged is he .
And that’s just some silly hypothetical I conjured up a few mins ago . And as the year goes on if he’s 70-30 tigers v chiefs as if by September that’s not at least 50/50.
I’m. It questioning his commitment , more that most h7mans don’t have that bandwidth.
The real issue in all this is free agency for 2028 season should be at the completion of of the 2027 season .
The only 2 parties who have a real vested interest in keeping the ridiculous status quo are the elite players who have 18-24 months to leverage their clubs , and the big clubs who have zero issues with player retention .
The idea that a player should have 18 months to negotiate their future is ridiculous . No other profession in the world has that kind of leverage , including other sports .
I personally like the fifa model . Free to negotiate in the last 6 months as a free transfer. Anyth8ng else the club needs To pay a transfer fee , pre agreed just to be able to talk to the player .
This can be monetary or an exchange player . 6 months is more than enough g8me to secure your future . Clint Newton arguing otherwise is detrimental to the game . Hopefully if the cap does go to20 mil , this will be a non negotiable from the nrl .

Its not just any rival team - there is a lot riding on the back of the PNG team being a success.
Jarome is now a big part of that.
We need to respectfully remove ourselves from the situation so we can focus on the club and let - I'm assuming Parra - deal with whatever happens next year leading up to their entry to the comp.
I would assume the talk next year around PNG and their entry into the comp will only get louder and cant imagine that Jarome will be immune to that as the face of the team.

It’s third party , the basis of 3rd party means it’s independent of clubs and his would be one of the few that is actually independent as the club doesn’t need to organise them as he will be the face of the club in a one club country

I don't think he should receive any payments whilst at tigers. It blurs the lines. What if he was here next year then one of those making payments asked for something? Where does the loyalty lay? We dont need the drama next year. We didn't need the drama this year. Injuries or not, the Luai decision has derailed our season the same way Galvin did.. 2/10.

It has derailed the season I agree with that 100 percent

I honestly wonder what is next year's problems we all know that there will be one never boring at Tiger Town

Yeah the transfer fee system works well.

It also allows clubs that produce talent to cash in on that when they lose players to bigger clubs.

We complain about clubs picking off juniors, but the Tigers would be doing well if we were able to sell a few on for a decent fee instead of the underhanded and secretive system that goes on now.

Re--iterates what I've always said - from a fans point of view early contract signings (greater than 12 months) should never be allowed. Causes too much disharmony, lack of effort, whatever. I know the usual comebacks will arise - players welfare, families, make a buck, set me up for life etc etc etc but a properly managed league with fast and solid rules and penalties for breaches would fix it up - but that will never happen. So as usual, the NRL wins, the player wins, the agents win, some clubs loose and the faithful, who pay for all of this one way or another continue to get shafted royally.

Its great for the NRL because it's all media hype. Its click bait for the broadcasters. The NRL is as much a soap opera as it is a sport.
