OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Tbh the biggest winner for me out of this is Benji. He's long been accused of playing favourites and Jarome is one of his most closest confidants but he's made the tough call of moving him for the long term future of the club (something no one would've ever thought). His growth as a coach is improving just needs to surround himself with better people.

Let’s see what plays out.

For now he’s potentially going into year four with rookie halves and poor depth in the forwards.

Lots of work to do this off-season.

I don’t like that Benji had to front up to justify long term recruitment strategy, when it’s his job to win now. Guaranteed he’ll come under pressure if we’re going terribly next year.

Where was our head of football?

Commentators saying that 500k is too much haven’t seen much off Jerome’s on field performances over the past 18 months……and he seems to be getting worse.

If he starts playing good now, it will annoy me, why wait until now?

And we need to look to the future and he’d just be holding us back.

I’ve been supportive of Benji this year but starting to lose faith. If we’re letting Luai go because we’ve got good young halves, let’s at least have a look at them in FG.

Starting next year with guys who havent played together in first grade is beyond stupid.

I may be in the minority but the Luai situation is good news. Without PNG he extends for another 3 years at 1.2m. Who’s paying that money outside of chiefs.
He’s brought some professionalism and credibility and left.

The losses are due to our lack of depth and injuries. Sam Fainu, KPP, Taylan, Api, Bula, Hunt. Maka. Missing games or playing injured is why we are struggling.

Big ? however, keeping the Fainu’s and getting another few players will benefit us more than Luai on 1.2m.

What if he starts playing great next year...itll be more than annoyance

I don't think he has played badly - but when you are getting 1,2mil the pressure is on to perform at an elite level - despite other barriers that impact output.
Already at Parra he won't have that level of expectation given how much they will be paying for him and quite possibly will be seen as good value if the combo with Moses clicks.

The proof will be if they take a jump in ladder position next year … other wise it’s just more wheel spinning

Once you see Andrews play you will forget Luai ever played for us.
He's a fine player but has some work to do with his defence like most young backs. Many forget Ettinghausen couldn't tackle fullstop when he made his debut. He came back the next year a completely different player and ended his career as one of the finest defensive centres in RL while maintaining his excellent pace.

He hasn’t played a first grade game yet .. lets be a little cautious about comparing him to 300 gamer ET.. this time last year Maka was going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread
