Very tough decision for Nathan Cleary
His girlfriend/fiancé is located in UK allegedly making $10 mill /year...he cant get remotely close to that personally playing in NRL ..with or without tax advantages
Its now crunch time for him on his relationship...needs to make a move
Dunno how long she has left with these $$,but thats the market over there and shes good...
as a couple makes sense to leverage her dollar earning capacity
So think he will go to ESL in 2028
And when theyre parents,he will return to NRL

Great question, but I know as much as you do.
From an NRL perspective, I would assume it’s legally binding due to their investment. However, in terms of the tax free deal brokered by the Labor government, it can’t possibly last too long.
It’s a huge disadvantage to every other club, and there will eventually be a major revolt. Not to mention, as taxpayers we’re effectively supplementing their incomes.

The tax-free deal is an initiative of the PNG govt.
The NRL are just bending over to accommodate PNG, they will be the most favoured team in the competition by the NRL, the officials and the media when they eventually start. They will have more support from the powers to that be to succeed than Melbourne did when they first started.
They did, but he should’ve been stood down from first grade for the rest of this season also.
Agree as soon as finals were out of reach he needed to be on bench or reserve grade to give our younger players the game time to develop.

A change of government will not make the slightest difference as keeping China from gaining influence with our closest neighbour will be very high on the agenda for all federal governments.People in PNG love rugby league and i doubt we could have could have got any better result in retaining our influence especially at what is a fairly meagre cost for our nation.

O.N. I dont think they care less about that just the tax free implications
it might be interesting if they hold balance of power for coalition to form government, wonder how rock solid the tax agreement is not so much the team

Whole PNG thing is a disgrace. The NRL is supposed to be a sporting competition, with this it’s become political. Instead of the secret cheating that goes on now, it’s an open book. If PNG were to manage a premiership in that tax free decade, then personally I will always consider it a gift rather than earnt.
I had already decided my membership of WT was ending this year, but I can promise even if I kept it going, it was ending for 28……….I refuse to pay money for a “fixed” competition.

This is also on top of the $800m that we already assist PNG every year for infrastructure, education and health services.
Unfortunately there have been cases of embezzlement with the funds that we've provided by their officials.

This money should be spent bolstering our armed forces and securing our borders. Once we’ve done that, we can help secure and invest further in PNG.
In saying that, any support we can provide to help them improve their communities, whether that’s doctors, teachers, scientists or engineers, would make more sense, rather than a politically subsidised football club.
