OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

It's beyond belief that the NRL has allowed this to happen. No TPA's affiliated with the PNG franchise should be allowed to commence until he has started playing for them (i.e. November 1 2027.)
The NRL are just bending over to accommodate PNG, they will be the most favoured team in the competition by the NRL, the officials and the media when they eventually start. They will have more support from the powers to that be to succeed than Melbourne did when they first started.

how binding is this agreement if there is a government change or ON gets balance of power etc

A change of government will not make the slightest difference as keeping China from gaining influence with our closest neighbour will be very high on the agenda for all federal governments.People in PNG love rugby league and i doubt we could have could have got any better result in retaining our influence especially at what is a fairly meagre cost for our nation.

O.N. I dont think they care less about that just the tax free implications
it might be interesting if they hold balance of power for coalition to form government, wonder how rock solid the tax agreement is not so much the team

Whole PNG thing is a disgrace. The NRL is supposed to be a sporting competition, with this it’s become political. Instead of the secret cheating that goes on now, it’s an open book. If PNG were to manage a premiership in that tax free decade, then personally I will always consider it a gift rather than earnt.

I had already decided my membership of WT was ending this year, but I can promise even if I kept it going, it was ending for 28……….I refuse to pay money for a “fixed” competition.

Funded by Australia and our tax dollars.

This is also on top of the $800m that we already assist PNG every year for infrastructure, education and health services.

Unfortunately there have been cases of embezzlement with the funds that we've provided by their officials.

This money should be spent bolstering our armed forces and securing our borders. Once we’ve done that, we can help secure and invest further in PNG.

In saying that, any support we can provide to help them improve their communities, whether that’s doctors, teachers, scientists or engineers, would make more sense, rather than a politically subsidised football club.

As I wrote, the tax-free deal is a PNG govt initiative.
Maybe, however, that's not as I understand it.

There are over 20 communist state run companies operating in PNG that have put it in a debt trap, and ASIO is worried. These no interest loans have happened throughout Southeast Asia, Africa and the South Pacific.

The last three governments failed to recognise this, and now we're scrambling.
  1. China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC)
  2. China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC)
  3. China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC)
  4. China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC/CRC)
  5. China Railway International (CRI)
  6. China Railway Construction Engineering Group
  7. China Overseas Engineering Company (COVEC)
  8. China Wuyi
  9. China Jiangsu International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group
  10. Guangdong Construction Engineering Company
  11. China Gezhouba Group
  12. CNBM Investment
  13. China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Corporation
  14. Huawei
  15. Sinopec
  16. Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC)
  17. Zijin Mining Group
  18. Zhongrun International Mining
  19. Xinfa Aurum Exploration
  20. China Construction Science and Industry Corporation (CCSIC)

The $600m over ten years in part is to curb classical security threats. The BBC article at the link provides very detailed information about the agreements.

I think it's more complicated than that.

We are building and establishing a safe living environment for players in what is essentially a compound, and we're helping to build their grassroots systems.

However, that coin does not include the tax free incentives that players get.

This also does not include the $800m that we provide to PNG every year, nor the cut that they will get from TV deals.

They're on a pretty good wicket.

So basically Albo gave a Chinese-backed nation, PNG, $600m to fend off the CCP, which is already running the joint. Why do I think we have been hit with China's Belt and have fumbled the ball in the middle of the Road?
