So what do you make of our team when it capitulates within 20 minutes in such an important game?

If Pascoe is the KPI and results driven leader we are lead to believe, what does he take from this game? More importantly, what recommendation should he make to the Board to fix the problem prior to next year noting the limitations on the salary cap?

Yes of course I agree that there are better coaches out there - Craig Bellamy and possibly Bennett (although personally I think he's overrated). That's it. And they're both unavailable. There are also better players out there, but does that mean we're going to bring in Cameron Smith and dump Brooks for Cooper Cronk? No, because we can't, and it's the same reason we can't have a "better" coach. Cleary would not be better than Taylor, possibly Toovey but he's been out of the game for a little while now and would also be a step backwards I would think. My point is there really isn't a better coach, Taylor is moving in the right direction and the team is building towards something, it takes time. Bringing in a new coach would only undo all of that work and we'd be back at square one.. Again.. We don't need the instability of the past to continue, we have a chance to finally bring it to an end, and with Taylor making some tough decisions we're already on the right track. But hey, some people seem content to bring Toddy Payten back in..

So let me get this straight. In your opinion Jason Taylor is the 2nd or 3rd best coach in the NRL?

Actually I left out Hassler, but it's just an example. Really I don't think the others are either here nor there, those three would probably be the only ones worth getting in if the opportunity presented. I'm not saying Taylor falls in just behind them, but he's been with us for a while now and is probably the best option for OUR team. A coach doesn't simply come in and ace it in the first few months, that's rare, and even some of the best coaches couldn't do that (Wayne Bennett - Knights). Taylor is the best option for us because it's the most stable option, and the team is already moving in the right direction so why risk derailing that? Just not sure what some people think we'd actually achieve by bringing in a new coach - someone to pander to Robbie again and extend his contract for 10 years?

It's hard to take you seriously when you throw a comment in about Farah at the end. We weren't even talking about Farah but like most JT fans you can't help yourself.

As for Taylor he's nowhere near the top few coaches in the competition and if you truly believe that you're kidding yourself. Comparing him to Bennett is laughable (he's won 7 grand finals you know?) and the fact Bennett got the Newcastle team to the preliminary finals in 2013 is almost as impressive as winning a grand final. Do you think Taylor would have got that team to the preliminary finals?

I don't like the position the team is heading in. I think 2016 has been a massive disappointment and a complete waste of talent. Our team should have made the finals this year but we didn't. If you're happy languishing on the bottom half of the ladder that's fine, but I'd rather see us in the finals.

If we fail to make the finals next year as well will you still be saying he's in the top few coaches in the competition?

Well it's a good example isn't it? I didn't just say it out of spite. Potter was trying to get our house in order and really try to build something, but for whatever reason he was sacked before he had the chance. We went backwards, but now we have a more resilient coach and he is finally getting some support and making the decisions that need to be made to move us forward.
Never said Taylor was in the top few coaches, and never compared him to Bennett. As for the Knights 2013 season - yes Taylor had done similar with the Eels, so who's to say he couldn't have? How could this season be disappointing? Most people had us in the bottom 8 so are you surprised? Or are you one of the very few that had us playing finals? Tbh I thought we'd make the 8, and hey we nearly got there despite popular opinion. I think we'll be in there next season, but not if we're destabilised by a new "better" coach.

I think its fair to say we need to spend the off season wisely….. develop the program in conjunction with a sports psychiatrist to rectify our mental state.

We dont have the best squad in the league, though we definitely have one good enough to give it a shake skill wise, thats a proven fact. If you were to nail down our biggest hurdle it would be the gap in quality between our best and worst performances, and which in turn drags our median performance level down to what is proven by our position to an unsatisfactory place.

While I agree this is the domain of Taylor and his staff to rectify, it also seems ingrained in our culture as a club. Its been happening for years.

This is where the big name coach comes into play... we wont get one at present, though the second they walk in the door they command respect, where as mid tier coaches walk in the door and have to exert authority other ways. Taylor, whether he is liked or not, has seemed to have finally earned the respect of late, shown by the quality of some positive recent performances, though it seems we dont either have the fortitude to keep the standard where it needs to be, or are to drained from reaching so far above our median standard performance that we burned out quickly.

We have enough skill across the park. We can win big games in dominant fashion, though a big investment in the mental side of things is needed to lift our baseline performace, and thus decrease the extra investment when we need to lift a gear. If we can keep some positive momentum to finish off the year, its a perfect platform to build from.

Till they can sort the salary cap out no coach will make a big difference. If we had been beaten by a couple of points you may have blamed the coach, when you done by 30 the players are the ones you should be pointing the finger at.

I am afraid these are the facts
1..we do not have a goal kicker
2..we lack a class centre and a quality backorder
3..we have three kids in the spine

The spine will be better next year but not sure what the plan is for point 1 and 2.

The bottom line a club like ours was and is going to take time and patience to get up with the better teams, Canberra has taken a few years and some good recruitment, Souths when they won the comp took five years of building or more to get to that standard.

I do not know if Taylor is the answer but I doubt things in 2016 would be any different who ever was coaching. I would defiantly give him another year unless a coach like Bellamy fell into our lap

As for the boys is reserve grade, Sironen is playing like a busted and no way should he be in first grade. Cherrington is in the same boat. As for Farah, now that the season is over, perhaps Taylor should let him play the last two games. This way the Farah fan club will be happy and the team goes into next year on a positive note. Farah to Souths also on a positive note. Win, win.

It must be nice to be so content with mediocrity. I thought it was a very disappointing year because it could have (should have) been so much better. We need a good coach. We don't have one now.

As for Sironen, he should absolutely be in first grade. He is eons better than Lovett who offers absolutely nothing in any capacity whatsover. And as for players "playing like a busted", how did Rankin go? You've been defending him for weeks and your silence is now deafening.

Finally, "flogged in one". I think 60-6 vs Raiders, 36-4 vs Bulldogs, 40-10 vs Panthers is three.

People will shoot me down but I thing way to much importance is placed on the coach. A winning football team comes down to a lot of things, most important is the quality of your squad. Sure the coach is a important factor, but so are a lot of other things. Bellamy by many is regarded as the best, but he has had three once in a generation players at his disposal since day one and he has never had a budget problem.

Once again I am not sure if Taylor is our man and he strikes me as a Brian Smith clone, a coach that every club needs if the are going to make a massive culture change but has a very short shelve life. Maybe he has run his time and its time for a new coach, but I think he has been good for our club

I would describe some of that shocking and amateur defence throughout some of 2017 as also a disaster.

IF it's true that Taylor only had to make the semis to renew his contract,
I hope the club takes into account that this year he only had to come in the top 9 .
Not even in the top half thanks to Parra
Even with Parra losing points we still look like missing out

What you say is 100% true but that's not really the angle I think most people look at regarding Parra.

I think what most (including myself) are looking at is what impact Parras forfeiting of points means to our chances of making the top 8.

For me its as simple as instead of the usual 16 teams competing for 8 final places, this year it was 15 competing for 8 as Parra ruled themselves out of contention by cheating. Therefore our chances for making the top 8 were improved this year compared to the usual standard based on percentages alone.

We were also disadvantaged as we had to play them the first time when they had basically an illegal team. Okay they had the points taken off them but we did not gain anything by playing a legal team and two points could be possibly the difference between a good season and a average season

Coaches get way to much credit for wins and cop way to much crap when they lose..You can send a team out with the greatest game plan in the universe..after a great week at training....then when the side misses 50+ tackles makes 10+ errors completes at < 75% ..ends on the wrong side of the penalty count they wont win too many..this has been the Wests Tigers way long before Taylor got here..This is what needs to change...for too long the gap between Wests Tigers best performances and worst has been Grand Canyon like..

Apart from 3 blow out games this season we have been competitive in games even the losses ..the Gap has narrowed..still has a fair way to go to be up with the consistent Teams but encouraging signs..

I to am starting to feel Taylor as the hatchet Coach the next Coach can spring board off once the Cap is sorted beyond 2017...

ITs Taylor that picks the team and the bench and the rotation of such.

Hand on heart and say that Taylor picked the best 17 team available or was he playing favourites.

Unfortunately, its hard to argue. He got the playing personnel wrong and we missed the 8 again.

Playing Ranking at fullback was not an issue. But it is a taxing position and expecting him to be burdened with playing dummy half, in a crunch game as well, is the stuff of a delusional man.

I'll let others bang on about Taylors positive attributes but he doesnt seem to be good at man managing. That folks, is the most important part of his role. Getting the players to play for him and getting them to use their attributes to the best of their ability.
