Jason Taylor ...THREAD...

@Harvey said:
Bringing together points from a few threads, I am not sure Taylor should be left holding the can for the inept performance.
1\. How much does this club spend on football operations including strength, conditioning and recovery? If they cannot compete at this level they will always struggle.
2\. I have seen suggestions that Payten will be appointed coach, because he is more within the tigers price range. While they may not be able to afford Bennett/Bellamy, if they cannot afford a decent first grade coach, they should sell the licence, move to Perth and drop down to NSW cup.
3\. Taylor's chances of holding the playing group went out the window when he was left hanging and (seemingly) forced to apologise from Farah. This would have come from Pascoe. If Robbie was with another club or playing reserve grade, the players would have more respect for Taylor and I am not sure the side would be that badly impacted.
4\. Milone gets picked because of sponsorship. I would suggest that this is another direction given to Taylor, but by whom? Board, CEO? If there is any truth in this rumour, whoever is responsible should go, or Taylor should just refuse to pick him, get sacked and then take the payout & sell his story.
5\. Taylor was signed on the basis that he would have control over the playing roster. He seems to have been undermined (see 3) and now buckets on board seems to have had that removed.

I believe that he probably has lost the playing group, but this has largely been triggerred by disfunctional management at the club.

Very good post. When wests take over they gotta change things quickly or just hand back the license. There's no point doing the same crap year after year.

Well ….
1) Taylor won't go until/unless the KPIs that are apparently in place in his contract are not met. Just when the KPIs kick in, no one knows - probably around half way through the season I would think.
So we'll have Jason with us for a while yet I would think. The club cannot afford to sack another coach and pay out his contract.
2) There's no quick fix here. Players are contracted and those contracts have to be played out. Until that happens, we are hogtied by and large to the current playing roster. It would be nice to see the back of some of these players immediately, but that's just not possible.
3) Tiger Torch wrote a few days ago, that Taylor still had the confidence of most of the playing group. I doubt one huge loss like this will change that all of a sudden. Anything Anasta says should probably be taken with a pinch of salt. The man has an axe to grind with this club.
4) Other clubs have been on the end of a belting once or twice this year - Souths for one. Yet we don't have a crescendo of voices demanding the sacking of Maguire. I believe this team's response next week against Souths and in the following couple of weeks will be a more significant indication of just where the players are 'at' with the coach. If they support him, then we can expect better efforts. If the coach has 'lost' the group, then we can probably expect more sizable losses in the near future.
5) We (as supporters and fans) are very frustrated by team selections. This above all is the most concerning issue. Yet, again, as supporters we do not have the full knowledge of what 'politics' are at play within the club. Just how much freedom does Taylor enjoy in terms of team selections. What 'instruction' if any is he under from those higher up the food chain? Politics is a part of all organisations. We can expect that there are at least some restrictions that have been placed on Taylor. This is of course undesirable. It's not fare to anyone - players, coach, fans. But sometimes you need to 'play the game' in order to 'get on' in any organisation - unless you are a Bennett or Bellamy who are in a position to totally dictate their own terms. Very few coaches have that privilege.
6) Our playing roster is poor - with a few exceptions. However, as some have pointed out here on this forum, it may only take 3 or 4 top players to bring about enough of a change to have the team in contention. At the moment, funds probably don't allow for the club to enter the market for this type of player. However, post 2017, there will be a war chest available - as long as sensible decisions are made this year in terms of retention - (Brookes, Moses in particular).
7) Taylor may go this year - either voluntarily (which I doubt), by being sacked (which I doubt), or by failing to meet KPIs in his contract which may allow the club to terminate his contract without penalty, (the most likely. But regardless, whether he stays or goes, this year is going to be very tough. The best we can hope for in all likelihood, is to avoid the wooden spoon and avoid any more results like last night. Any new coach coming into the firing line with this roster is going to be on a hiding to nothing. You really would have to wonder just who would want the gig.
Even Bennett failed to get the Knights to any great heights in the couple of years he was with that club. It had people questioning his actual ability as a coach. We've seen with the way he has transformed what was an under-performing Brisbane team, just how good he is. Point being - no matter how good a coach someone is, without the right playing roster, you will struggle.
8) I believe that unless we get more results like last night in the next few weeks, then it would be better to keep Taylor in place. Struggle through this year as best as possible, hope that Brookes and Moses commit to next year (and only next year - I wouldn't be offering extensions to their contracts at all), and replace the coach at seasons end - we'll have a clearer picture of what finances will be like (will Farah stay? Will Lawrence accept a re-structuring of his contract? etc etc) and may as a result, be able to attract the right coach with the finances to support the signing of a couple of players that the new coach may deem as essential. Any other path taken at this time in my opinion will just be a band aid solution at best, and may in fact further hurt the club financially in the future.

Well said Yeti - the worst thing we can do is over react.

As you say we could have won any of the last five and Souths, Rorters, Titans, Canberra etc. have all copped hidings so far this season.

It is how we respond to the challenge now, that will determine our future in 2017 and beyond.

You say don't over react, let us stick with Taylor and see what happens, hell no he has been here since october 2014\. He has plenty of time to make inroads, we avoided the spoon on F/A last year, we are on a 6 game losing streak and could be last after this round. We will have no chance to attract players or sponsors if Taylor is kept on, he had no idea of how to lift the players in the sheds yesterday. No player is going to play for a coach who has nothing to offer when needed. The team will play better next week, but Taylor will have bugger all to do with the improvement. To keep him on now will do more long term damage than punting him now, the players should all be put on notice as well, and we start afresh on thursday with a new coach, interim or otherwise

Why does Milone get selected because of sponsorship?

Get rid of that sponsor for starters.

Any sponsor you demands his favourites to be selected is not worth the money.

Has to be his old mans company

No-one will sign on to coach this side unless they are close to Robbie. They know what happens otherwise

I agree Farah is a coach killer ..until this club parts ways with this person the club will not progress ,no coach will come anywhere near this club unless there in the boys club .

I just can't get over Taylor head down staring at the ground for a prolonged period during the Half time team talk. You would not get that from an Under 16s coach let alone an NRL head coach.

Then they come out and put 60 on us made it look 10 times worse.

In some sports that would have been a sackable offence.

It was a terrible look from a head coach.

There is no point replacing the coach unless the club is prepared to allow the next coach to stamp their authority and wipe out anyone whom is a threat to their control, be it players or staff.

Wests Tigers have become an embarrassment to the NRL.
Hope Taylor gets punted before the next game. Put in a caretaker coach until whenever.
If not sacked then Taylor must drop a few players for the Souths game. No action by the Tigers management or coach is an insult to the fans & sponsors.

Totally agree CB.

They tried to oust Farah but the problem was the Club never had the money to follow through and pay him out if it came to it.
So really made alot of noise for nothing and in turn angst the players and fans.

I heard on the radio last year the question of why are fans down at Leichhardt and Campbelltown?
That was when only 7,000 turned up on a sunny day at Campbelltown.
Well maybe I have black & gold eyes but I came up with the following:

Not being a glamour club we are constantly getting bad decisions by refs.
Tigers are also being heavily penalised even at home.

Honestly if you are not oblivious to this then you are not a true supporter.

The two ball incident against Knights costs us dearly. That was after a penalty count of 5-1 to the Knights by half time.
Against Storm when Teddy was taken out the Storm scored two quick tries, one being a blatantly forward pass.
Yet no penalty for Tigers, mind you at Leichhardt. Teddy did eventually come back on but the stuffing was beaten out of him. I also ask why no penalty try to Lawrence?
Three weeks ago against the Sharks pen count was 13-7 to Sharks at Campbelltown.
Sharks are morals against any club with 6 more penalties in a game.
In R4 against against the Eels there was 10 mins to go. Tigers penalised and commentators thought professional foul deserved a sin bin. Yet ref is lenient.
Tigers were coming home strong. I think they go close to winning if Eels reduced to 12 men.
Last night Corey Norman was put in the bin around the same time in the game for similiar circumstances.
Simona gets suspended for three weeks? What for?
Taupau knocks Bird's head off and only gets a week. lol

\
Ironically the last game I saw Tigers v Raiders at Leichhardt.
Henry Perenara was again the ref that day. Perenara made a costly error claiming Lawrence was caught with the ball on last. It was only the 5th.
Tigers were also denied victory on the bell with a no-try to Brooks on the bell.

I could go on and on and on as this has been happening for years.
Eventually ramifications eventually had to happen.
Yesterdays 60-6 flogging was no suprise to me. It was coming.
Injuries (Woods) along with suspensions (Simona) must be considered.
Tigers have not one a game since Robbie Farah has returned.
Yes there has been 6 straight losses. But also 6 straight games where Robbie is NOT captain.
Thats a huge insult! Rep player & the most loyal Tiger who has busted his guts for the side ???
You would never see Cameron Smith play without being captain.
Being an old magpie I was a Jason Taylor fan. But its time for JT to stand down or be sacked.
His expiry date in my opinion is 24-04-2016

I am a Tigers fan tipping against my own club each week.
I also refuse to go any live games.
I am getting close to not even watching them on TV. I only watched the first half yesterday.

I am a very sad Tigers fan as I spend all of season counting the day for the footy.
By R8 I am already waving the white flag. Poor Tigers!

'Bye, Bye Robbie!' should be the title. Maybe he can cry on the footy show with Beau ala Benji 2013.

why pick on one of the busiest players who gets blasted if he hogs ball and counter blasted if he passes ball to left side and they foul it up? He makes metres straight up whereas half the team will lose tonnes of metres out wide when supposedly attacking the line and even often lose the ball.

A caretaker coach has to be appointed, who cares if Todd Payten and Robby are mates the club won't and can't afford to get rid of Farrah so why not get him and Todd to get this team winning again, and Robbie is playing to Taylor's instuctions and nothing more, I would rather drop Brook's and put Mosses at half he is more the more creative of the two, TRY something
Taylor has lost the respect of the team,

We could get rid of JT immediately but what will it achieve? Our salary cap is a shambles and will stay that way for at least another season. At least the current administration seems determined to finally fix it by ride out a bad period. I'd let Taylor finish the year. I seriously think there would only be minimal improvement under a different coach and quite frankly it's wasted money having another year when we are paying two coaches.

No doubt there are many more

1\. A change now brings fresh ideas and a new approach.
2\. Our young players immediately come under the tutelage of a very good coach.
3\. It allows the new coach to organise his recruitment/retention for 2017
4\. Accountability issues are addressed.

Fittler seems to think it is the players…..

Why is this assumed. What ''very good coach'' would want to come near us?

This cracks me up every time ,it will be years before the Tigers get a coach capable of taking the club to a premiership, certain types will have to be long gone!
