When Brooks was dropped last year, did he and Madden have any game time together? If so what positions did they play?

Brooks only got benched, not put back to reggies.
I'm still thinking he might not even make the bench tonight ... just doesn't make sense.

I’m thinking Madge May look for a way to get Brooks and Madden on the park together.?

That’s how it should be ... Mbye offers nothing, may aswell play in a dinner suit.

My theory is blokes who dominate through physicality, exploiting lazy defenders or high risk plays in reggies are not sure things in first grade. Defence is very different in FG (unless you play against WT).

A bloke who bases his game on getting the ball in the right hands, counting numbers, skill execution under pressure etc... just needs to do the same things a bit quicker. I have watched Jock, as have many, during televised games this year and I'm hoping his game translates to first grade. **There are many great halves you don't notice until the clutch plays because in between they are just doing their job.**

I'm also feeling optimistic which still tends to happen for some reason!?

This is spot on.

You judge a half on what they do when it matters the most. Their ability to read the game and the talent to execute it when it counts.

Madden has that Luke Keary type of game and hopefully he can step up tonight and show us all something when the game is on the line.

I get the feeling Madden will play distributor with Brooks and Doueihi on their respective edges with Laurie roving around the back. M'Bye back to the bench to rotate with Liddle, where he actually looked very good before moving to the centres last week.

Wouldnt be surprised at all that Madden starts and Mybe to the bench.

Only thing that makes any sense.

Maguire also said something about our kicking game, asking for a more patient kicking game from Doueihi, kicking to the side lines, trapping them in the corners.

Madden is here for that reason id say.

In that case, i am struggling to see what Madden will offer. Hope he proves me wrong but Simpkin would have been better to there than Madden. 2 hookers with different styles but not 80min NRL hookers would have worked better. They are both good runners but are exhausted to run due to the defense workload they have to do.

I would have Madden start and Mbye on bench to replace Liddle when needed.. If Madden chocks early we can always bring him on earlier but I have a feeling Madden might be one of those players that play well in Reserves but steps up in 1st grade.. Similar to how Daine Gagai is for QLD... Fingers crossed

Going by last night's effort surely Zach Dockar Clay is the next in line for a first grade call up, he was outstanding. Very high workrate and his competitiveness is something our top team sorely lacks. He was still going as flat out in the last minute of the game as he was at the start.
Most impressive was in the last few minutes when we had a great attacking opportunity and someone dropped the ball, ZDC was filthy. He wanted more points, was yelling and urging his teammates for more despite the comfortable scoreline. That was awesome to see, haven't seen that in our club since Prince in '05.....he was always pushing for more even when we had blown teams off the park.

I'm still thinking the shock play from Madge ...Brooks left out altogether and Stef to bench.

Can't see it. He loves Brooks. It's more about trying to resurrect him.

Well that wouldn’t make much sense, so you’re probably right

I don’t necessarily think Stefano was dropped more so Maguire doesn’t want to burn him out in the top grade
I think hes being rested

Brooks even on his worst day is still our best defender in the backline....add to that Liddle should be made to have a rest at some point so we can get 2 quality stints out of him

Play every play like it is your last play Jock

Don't die wondering

Hope you kill it

**And if he does take too many risks and they don't come off he will get slaughtered on here as well. Whoever our halfback is it seems they are on a hiding to nothing.....too many low risk plays/not enough off the cuff footy, it is a razor-thin balance.**
Haven't seen too much about Madden to get excited about TBH, but I hope he has an absolute blinder. Every week I hope every one of our blokes has a great game, they are our team after all?.

But the reward (if it comes off) is massive, he will become rich beyond his dreams and feted throughout the league.

But as Happy_Tiger says, don't die wondering, he may not get another chance?

But we have had a few blokes recently, Gamble, Hoffman and Cini who have had 1 dodgy game and been caned straight back to reserve grade for it (Gamble wasn't that bad in his debut but bore the brunt of a pathetic loss). That would have to kill a young blokes confidence....and faith in the club's systems TBH when they see established players playing like garbage week after week yet still getting picked for first grade.
I hope Madden just plays the percentages tomorrow, a solid debut. If he goes all out and his plays come off, great. If he does that and they fail he will be the scapegoat banished to KOE Cup history tells us. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't unfortunately.

Hoffman was never intended to play more than the one game. And he was fine.

Who said he was only intended to play one game?
He wasn't bad in that game, hardly great, from memory Mbye playing inside him rushed in plenty of times and left Hoffman stranded. Rabbitohs scored 4 or 5 tries down that flank. Not all Hoffman's fault but he was the one to get punted to reserve grade after it.

Because he was only picked cos we were low on numbers and he was on a development contract. He had to be given an exemption by the NRL.

Fair enough. He hasn't been given a 2nd chance at all though this season suggesting his cards might be marked after the team's horror showing in his debut.

Hoffman got shafted by Mbye charging out of the line leaving him stranded with 2 opposition players to stop.

Pretty sure he is still on a development contract this year so cannot get picked until after round 10.
