Joey Leilua #226

Joey was once again rocks and diamonds did some good things some bad, but some credit needs to go to his defence. He rushed up and saved a couple tries and didn't really miss any tackles from what I remember. Just silly offloads and penalties let him down

Joey needs to learn how to control his emotions when playing with his brother.
He can only improve based on that performance but he needs early ball and needs to hit the outside shoulder/ straighten his line running to draw in the defence and open space for others.
Our plan of attack was disjointed and terrible giving our backs nothing to work with.
I wouldn't drop him based on that performance but i dont think he has many chances left especially if he is looking for a new contract either with us or somewhere else (hopefully in England).

The bloke is so emotional though that it's going to be hard to drop him without causing a blow-up. His quote this week was still about Ricky telling him he wasn't good enough - and he proved Ricky right today...

I would go with 1 more chance next week before Talau subs in. If he repeats that performance, Talau has to be there.

Mbye’s grubbed into the in-goal with no bodily around just shows he can’t initiate anything out of the ordinary.

In defence of that kick, it wasn't a bad one at all and the backs should have been pressing up. Nofo was totally out of the picture today, not interested in positioning himself where good wingers should be.

I didnt think Joey was as bad as people are making out. He came in without playing a trial but he ran hard, his defence was fine, he chased Curtis Scott all the way after Kepoa messed up with a stupid pass.

His offload to Roberts was fine just Jimmy dropped it cold - if it had been the other way people would have blamed Joey.

Kepoa had a average game dropping a ball with the line open, throwimg a stupid pass, being outjumped for a kick but Joey wasnt as bad as many seem to be making out.

The kick was fine, but maybe just give the boys a heads up. They had no idea it was coming and yet on the replay from front on you could see Mbye never looked up to play what was unfolding, he had already decided to kick it.

Joey complaining about the refs on Twitter lol

To be fair, he has a point...how that wasn’t a penalty for the late swinging arm on his brother ill never know. But on Twitter seriously?

There wasn't much in the swinging arm and no doubt that Lucy played it up for a penalty. Still, there was obvious intent and it made contact with a player's head, so a penalty should have been awarded.

It was very late too. I bet 9/10 times that sort of stuff gets penalised this year

Joey Leilua has taken issue with a moment of commentary from NRL great Michael Ennis in a stinging social media post.

Leilua appeared to lose his cool during the contest and came up with several noticeable mistakes after brother Luciano appeared to be collected high during a tackle from Canberra’s Hudson Young. “It’s a shame for Joey,” Ennis said

“He brings so much to the side when he’s focused and invested in the performance of the side.”
“Young got one on (Luciano) early and Joey came over pointing the finger and from that moment he then came up with that play where he clipped James Tamou — who had to leave the field.

“He came up with some really under pressure passes, one for James Roberts — that was never on — and defensively George Williams sliced through him and another one when Bailey Simonsson picked up a kick from George Williams which ended up being Hudson Young’s try. There was very minimal effort to get back.

i wish players would delete their social medias like FB and IG and just let their play do all the talking instead of clapping back on the socials.

JTJ had been caught up in the previous play and was physically not possible to be there, which is of course why you dont do it. You could see JTJ BEHIND Mbye shaking his head.

Cant agree with you on a few things. The offload to JTJ was low and left and under pressure 10m from your own line is not the time.

Kepaoa didnt have the line open, there were 4 Raiders there to tackle him, he wouldnt have scored.

I did see some Joey positives, be the negatives really bit hard.
