Geez 21 games across 3 seasons on his money has to make him our worst ever signing. He had to go.

Matt Ballin, 40 minutes playing time in 2 years would be up there too.

Ballin didn't really cost anything, was heavily subsidised by Manly. Overall, Reynolds is the worst signing in WT history imo.

Mbye is still up there for me. Hes played so much more than Josh Rey, yet i feel hes contributed less to the team. At least Josh looked like he gave a ?.

Mbye has made contributions, and I generally think he's a good player. He's just maligned so heavily due to his overinflated salary. If he was on $400k he wouldn't get the same criticism.

Mbye has played and done a decent job for us. Reynolds is our worst ever signing and it's not even close.

I cannot even think of one highlight to take from mbye in 2020, solid player who gives you the bare minimum a first grade player should, but that’s about it

If reynolds played the same amount of game time as him there would have been daylight.

Not even sure if Mbye has received one MOTM award playing for us? Grub has received multiple

Played well against cowboys until he was shifted to the wing. Set up a few tries and made some line breaks, scored one too

I'd go as far to say that unless a stray North Korean missile hits the team bus, anything less than 8th is not acceptable next year. Madge and Hartigan have made a concerted effort to improve the roster. Stacked in the outside backs and front row/lock. A few options in the halves and the only place we lack is second row and fullback (Mbye is a reasonable short term option here if they coat his hands in super glue.)

Only teams I see dropping out of the 8 are sharks and knights, we’ll have to compete with quite a few other clubs to try take that spot. It won’t be easy at all to make it but if we can play our best consistently we can do it

I don't know about that, I reckon Parra could implode. Jenko gone for PED's, signed Cartwright, Ferguson wasn't a patch on seasons gone by. Souths are still thin up front too, a few injuries among the back 5 and they come well back to the pack.

I expect us, Manly and the Schoolies to all be thereabouts for a top 8 spot.

Maybe but parras roster is still strong, they should be beating all the bottom 8 teams at least

I have a feeling that Parramatta might struggle to make the 8 next year as well as the sharks. Like Manly losing Turbo this season if they lose Gutterson for an extended time will struggle as others don't step up and Moses over rated.

We lost both games to them last season but were close both times we need to turn that around.

I fancy our chances against Parra. I think they're on the decline.

I have the same instinct about this too....I think that the players they lost, the players they signed and some of their aging talent it's time for them to plummet to where they belong....in the gutter

So usually 2 teams drop out of the 8 most years.
Sounds like we are nominating Parra and the other i think will be the sharks.

I second that. Both will make me uncomfortably happy

Titans should be better next season so they might go close and let's hope we are the other team elevated into the 8.

Titans could bomb out next year- massive money contracts/the Titans hasn't been a good mix thus far. Expecting them to flop next year, happy with that after Prince dogging us for them moons ago.

Well would do our chances better but they have a smart coach only concern is the Gold Coast reputation for being a party place and accessible to a bad culture that can create.
They have bought well however and can't be under estimated.

Reynolds just needs the right 7 and to stay fit ......you find a Trent Hodgkinson style 7 and he stay fit he will find his best .....problem is I can't see a Trent Hodgkinson style half back anywhere in RL

THAT’S a bit ludicrous, agree...

Reynolds was a financial disaster for us plain and simple. Offered very little for his return and he should be thanking us every day for setting him up for life financially. If I ever hear him bag the club I'll be filthy at him.

He is a quality bloke, I don’t think he will

He was on record yesterday even saying he admits he was a dud buy, but he can’t control selection/injury. I respect him for that

That "marquee signing" cost about the same as Josh Reynolds but unlike Josh Reynolds, Mbye played and trained to a sufficient level to at least get selected in the 17 each week and wasnt dropped because an old man who couldnt tackled was preferred to him.

Thats a reasonable enough comparison of the two players IMO........Champ.

I think he played well this season and only had one bad game where he was more concerned about Hoffman then just doing his job.

You said you couldn't remember a single highlight from Mbye, how many examples were required? Was @JC99 expected to go through every game and provide examples? Maybe you were just commenting on your Alzheimers... champ.

You think Mye is bad so you discount anything good he does, it is called confirmation bias. I assume I have it with Benji Marshall (from 2012 onwards) because the negative 20 points a game player I see and the star others see do not match up.

He’s a bloody good bloke, off the field, no doubt he will only be a positive PR guy post-career.

He can do commentary if he wants.

He’s not Bwaith the ‘waste’

Exactly, Josh Reynolds standard of play and training was such that a 35yo who cant defend was preferred. Not a ringing endorsement.

Disagree mate.. Joshy had demonstrably more injury issues and suspensions. Don’t think the age or form of either player had a lot to do with it. Same as round 1 the year before...

Also to add Reynolds getting suspended in the souffs game probably didn’t help his cause either. I’m not even trying to justify reynolds was a good signing lol. Just that when he put the jersey on he gave it his all

And from my viewing this year, I can’t say the same about mbye

If you wanted to compare Benji and Josh ....the one thing you knew defensively josh was going to put it on the line no matter what and probably explains the injuries ...Benji ...but Josh needed the right people around him to be successful ...look at him with Hodgkinson at club and SOO level ...they were the only combination that beat Qld in that golden run ....
