Junior Tupou #254

His games in the middle of the year showed his potential . His games later in the year set showed how he could be in SL in 3 years . Totally depends on him

I agree with this because even though he showed a lot of ability at times his seeming lack of interest at other times makes you wonder if he has the dedication to be a FG player

i dont trust him since hes after a player like olam
You're upset at the club for not getting into a bidding war and overpaying a player based on their potential? The only reason we're chasing Olam is because we're actually being smart with our cap space for once.

There is plenty to like about Tupou, but I'm glad we're taking a more measured approach here.

we just spent 1.2 mill on another 5/8 after just getting one on a 4 year deal but we are being smart with our cap ???

How is signing a 30 yr old back already starting to decline, who has got three years left on his contract “being smart”..?

people will be hating on him like Nofo if he comes to the Tigers .. Storm trying to move off him ASAP

Disagree Jad, the whole team barring Pole,
and a few others packed up their toolboxes
mid-season last year if we're being honest

I’m disappointed Tupou looks like departing.
Not many young players of his height and weight with reasonable speed and agility to go with it.
Young Makasini looks like a good long term replacement if we can keep him away from the Waratahs and others trying to poach him, but he’s probably 3 years from a potential NRL debut.

Olam will be a stopgap until one of our kids come through, I doubt we will be throwing money and a lengthy contract at him.

Makes less sense to put Tupou on a long and expensive contract.

I think Tupou is underrated by a few on this forum. Behind a terrible halves structure, bad coaching and even worse inside men he had a very good year. He showed something despite the situation.

Do think he is one we should keep but I’m against promising players a position.

Offering him 3-4yrs isn’t bad either unless we don’t see much more improvement in his game to come - heck Benji extended Naden by 3yrs.
Yes he's worth giving a shot and a 3 year deal if that's what it takes, but we can't pay stupid money for him. No idea why the fins want to pay so much. I dare say Amitalo may be a replacement for Tupou at half the price.

Tupou has always been an outsider though. He's very quiet, keeps to himself, looks awkward in social situations. Doesn't have strong relationships with people at the club. Losing him won't impact morale, it just creates a whole in our squad and is 2 years of wasted development. We shouldn't spend any more time on him, he's got too many flaws to stay with us if he's signed elsewhere officially.
I admit he’s always looked unhappy. I just want to know that we’ve done everything possible to help him reach his full potential, including perhaps any antisocial behaviours.

People judging him on the having possibly
the worst halves pairing in WT history that
fed/didn't feed him the ball. Sheens was
playing him out of position too on the
wrong side of the field along with chopping
and changing his inside men every other
week. I've known about/saw clips of him
as a schoolboy. He would carve at centre.
his in and outs & foot work is elite. The
issue with him is that he's very quite and
probably didn't air his grievances to WT
management, he's just put up & shut up.
Woolf had time with him in Tongan camp
and probably got in his ear. His 1 on 1
defence is good, runs the ball hard, great
feet etc. Peoples' only gripe with him
Without looking at the bigger picture is
that he's dropped a few balls. So what...
won't even be an issue if he plays were he
should be playing at centre. Just my 2 cents
Poor halves dont cause him to drop at least one high ball every game, usually resulting in opposition try..nor to miss key tackles and having done so, simply stand still with hands on hips rather than chase
Talented but incomplete footballer who overbelieves his own hype

Glad we didn’t get in any bidding war for Tupou
Ok player but nothing special in my opinion.
Lots of mistakes in him and not enough urgency in his play.
50/50 he’ll get any better.
Seems we have plenty of others, similarly talented, waiting for a chance.

Anti social, lots of mistakes, no urgency,
not the halves fault, looks unhappy, he's
an incomplete footballer. Haha the last
3 posts are clueless with all due respect.

Not you @Joelcainenumber1fan lol.
guess we'll sign a busted 30 year old
who's been dropperd to cup for 600k over
the next 3 years. Can't please everybody

Facts dont work for you...?
Ill tell you what doesnt work for me...young blokes whom we invest a lot of time and resource to encourage and develop them, only to be punted like a cheap [This word has been automatically removed] for the next opportunity that comes along.

I personally really like Tupou I think he has unreal potential and I'm upset he will leave us, however pretty sure someone reported we put a contract offer to him which means he has rejected us. Good luck to him for the future. Got a good feeling he will regret his decision as I believe we will be contenders in the next few years..

what about we let him develop
Bula offensive games dissapears some times too and hes out of position a lot
it happens to young players its up to the coaching staff to coach it out of them
still its worth a chance to keep him long term i doubt dolphins offered him a lot we just had interest in another 5/8
