Justin Olam #281

Part of an interview with 9WWOS regarding the PNG team and Olams take:

"I would love to play for them but I don't know how I'm going now with my injuries. Fingers crossed," said Olam, who's contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2026."

Not a good sign!!
Seems to me like a philosophical answer towards the future to me dazz, didn't take long to recover from surgeries to both knees so damage hopefully wasn't too bad, also Richo said somewhere how well he has returned so let's hope he's back to best.

Yea but that is mid season.

He had a clear medical problem that hadn't been picked up for 2 years. It explains his form and letting him heal properly will help him rip in.

I expect good things for 2025 from Olam. Naturally we can punt him if that doesn't happen.

Good point CC didn't realize how old that was.

Oh well, it's done. Retire him, move on and don't make the mistake again. Looks like we have 2 centres coming through in Makasini and Tauaifaiga. Hopefully we can make do with what we have until they come through, or we sign an experienced strike centre for a few years.

Given that the knee in question is noted as the other one to that which gave him issues at his time at the Storm and his first couple of months with us, an exemption wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility at all.

Given we do have, though not ideal, options in the centres in the interim (To'a, Doueihi, Faataape, Turuva, Skelton, Naden on return), the potential to regain another 600 to go to market for a centre would be the best outcome.

Couple that with the spare dollars spoken about of late and the (likely) moving of Klemmer, that's a fair chunk back in the pocket to grab a highly quality centre and (hopefully) chase a quality edge also. Would really start to even out the squad if it plays out that way.

Pieces really falling into place for us to sign Taylan May, pending his court case results.

Centre for centre.
Except May is the better option for us moving forward.

When is the case finalised? I was thinking about him the other day. Need to get him doing some laps around the oval so he can jump straight in!

The 23-year-old was arrested back in May over an alleged domestic violence incident involving his wife and is currently subject to the NRL’s no-fault stand-down policy until at least March 2025, when his case will next be heard.

According to reports.

There's no guarantee it'll all be wrapped up by March. These things can drag out. He's facing some serious charges.
