Kids Footy

Very hard to understand Doc
Helensvale finally were able to select u/12 Divisions this week but weren’t able to train again
We won’t actually get to play now till around the 17th of next month
(Weather and the Council willing)
But the council will be able to churn up the grounds that they use for parking, kids don’t matter too much to this Council and Govt.

We've had plenty of rain over the last 6 weeks or so. So much in fact, that the grounds have been closed more often than not. What really got to me was a few weeks back, our fields were given the ok so long as we treated them with care. We were told to train in appropriate areas and not to churn up the grass. So no problem, it was just great for the teams to be back on deck.
My boys team quite often goes overtime to get the most out of each session and given they're the last, it's not a problem.
So this particular evening, our kids had to be off by 6:30 on the dot, so - get this, the local AFL teams could use our grounds as theirs were too wet.
So here we are, sharing a soft field with a large number of people (and I mean a couple of hundred) and being told to get off our own fields!
I couldn't believe it.

But anyhow, some nice weather of late has allowed them to have a few weeks practice and tonight is game night. Bugger Broncs VS Storm, I'll be where the action is watching two teams of fired up under 16's go at it for round 1.

Ormeau Shearers VS Runaway Bay Seagulls

GO YOU SHEARERS! :righton:

Oh…and it's raining again.

To all the WTForumers that'll be attending another year of running the kids around, canteen duty, game day duty officials and coaches, trainers etc. Have a great season and hopefully your kids will enjoy themselves as much as you'll enjoy watching them growing and being active.

All the best team.

EB's side got up 28-12 this week , they had a few out injured and led 22-0 at HT

Other side had two out , one got a ban for swearing at the ref previous week and other has been banned indefinitely for causing $ 50 000 damage at his high school

Last week was a joke , they realized they had made a mistake with school holidays and put out a memo saying that if clubs wanted to change the game because of players away in school holidays

Other side could field a team , we couldn't so on Friday (game day ) they sent a message out saying the game was on

Because we had been at the Ginger Factory about 51/2 hours away and didn't get the message until much later we got back just as the game ended , fi we'd got the message earlier we could of made it

We had to play 7 underage kids to fill the side and just got beaten by 8

The big problem with GJRL is this , 2 forfeits and your team gets booted out of the comp and has been that way for many years in both Junior and Senior footy

Its stupid really , something like what happened to our boy happens and then they get a highly infectious disease later in the season and can't field a team …....

I went through this many years ago , two players travelling over the night before from Moura to Gladstone died on the Biloela range and we only had 9 show up next day and we forfeited

Sitting in the bar , an official comes over and tells us without an ounce of remorse (after every game had a minutes silence throughout the day/evening ) that another forfeit and we'd be kicked out

I can remember someone telling the official if he opened his mouth again he'd get knocked out

We had a great first up win in the wet. 18-10\. Scored 4 very good tries but young Doc needs to be handed the ball to convert. Unfortunately, our right centre was taken away by ambo with a broken knee.

Yaayyy!
Finally, a real game of RL for the kids.
Helensvale 12s Div 1 team had a good win over Burleigh today.

It was good to see the kids get a proper game at last, although most of the kids were in the South Coast Rep team trials on Tuesday and Wednesday., with 7 of the team being selected.

There was some happy faces after so many made it

Doc, that’s really bad l luck for the young guy, did you guys play at Burleigh
There was a young bloke hurt there and the ambulance was still there with him when our game finished.
That’s the last thing that you want to see

No, we had a home game. Incidently, my 8year old played his first game today and had a great time. Plenty of tries all round, offloads all over the place, blistering runs & tough tackling. Was a great day.

If we were scoring then the kids went down 5 tries to 4\. But the boys were having too much fun to worry about the tally. So yeah, it was a great start to the season

Boys lost 36-18 tonight against last years premiers

Horrible start , it was 16-0 after 8 minutes and they hadn't touched the ball bar kicking off

Fought back to 24-18 before Valleys scored 2 late tries

Good to see the boys are still confident , I mentioned to them as they came out of the sheds at FT they can beat these guys , just comes down to not being afraid to match their physicality , they agreed both times this year they blew us off the park early

Difference is the Valls halfback , he has real good footy brain even at this stage

The 15 metre cut out pass that got them back 30-18 was pretty damn good

Helensvale Div one 12s had awin on Saturday4 tries to 1 against Burleigh.
We had a older Ref and he must have been auditioning for a gig in the NRL,
I hope he’s got some extra whistles, ,as He wore out The one that he had on Saturday,

he wasn’t biased at all ,he was just ridiculously pedantic to both teams and ruined what should have been a great game,
I think we actually start legit Competition games this weekend, so the kids are looking forward to that., as well as the school Comp.

You find that's pretty normal in the younger age group games , they are keen to protect the kids from high tackles and sling tackles in particular

I agree that the main thing is the welfare of the kids.but that was never in question. Kids from both sides were at times being penalised for perfect tackles, and no one knows what some of the other penalty’s were for,
they were just told that they were tackling too hard,

These 2 teams would of hadpossibly ten Rep players players between them ( top 2 teams ), and it was laughable that they were getting penalties that in any other game they would be being congratulated for,
It wasn’t as if we had young kids Reffing , this bloke was an adult.
He just seemed to like being the centre of attention,
Never seen him before and hope it’s a long time before we do again

A sad state of affairs that one. My young bloke played vs Southport last weekend and they were well outclassed but the boys never gave in. I was frustrated at the refereeing on the day as I thought a couple of times the ref could have allowed a few tries that were a 50/50 call. The game would have been a lot closer if the ref had let it, and that would have made it more fun for everyone.
I reckon that the coaches should be allowed on the field up until the under ten age si the team can be organised better. There's still a lot of disorganisation and frustration with the kids in almost all teams and I think it would make better players in the end.

they were when my g\son was in the tens.two years back.
not sure if it was sanctioned.
as almost all of the kids had played for a long time together, they played with out a coach on the field, but a lot of teams had their Coach there,
No one ever said anything about it as it helped the kids that had started later.

Helensvale 12 DIV 1 started todays game as if they had just met , however after 10 minutes, it all clicked back together and ended up about 6 tries to one No goal kicks , not sure why.
Against a bigger team , The kids tackled themselves to a good win.
Had a new player to the club this season,
and at last we have a bit more size(height anyway) and once this kid realises just what hes capable of, hes going to cause some problems for other teams.

I think today he got a glimpse of it when he pole axed one of the other forwards in a perfect front on ball and all tackle, he stopped him dead in his tracks , and just kept on going., certainly no fear.
Footys back on and the kids are loving it

I wonder why they're not big on goal kicking…. that seems really odd. I remember last year back in WA the little blokes were kicking goals which was great to see but now, here in qld they tend to skip it altogether. Its a shame because my fella can knock them over the full size posts pretty regularly and comfortably and he's just 8\. They do however make the kids take drop outs - go figure.
Was saying to the missus during the game over the weekend that no matter which sport you're involved in, it seems there's always one star. The guy that can weave, run and score from anywhere on the field and therefore always gets the ball, and there seems to be at least one or two that have no clue or interest and would rather watch the birds flying by or the kids on the next field whilst the play goes on around them. lol. Gotta love how kids work. Coaches on the field really should be the norm imo.
The little bloke played Runaway Bay and had a great time. Totally outclassed again, but they went over a couple of times.
Under 16s Div 2 played Robina and in a very hard and tough game got up 18-16\. It was rugged and spiteful and there was a case of really ugly parent syndrome from our friends down there to the point which the ref stopped play and called for an official to sort it out. Why people have to carry on like that is beyond me. Disgraceful. Encouraging on field violence is pretty appalling from a parent.

luckily it doesnt happen too often around here, but ive seen it a few times.
someone said that our games were still trials, and thats the reason for no goalkicks.
We were supposed to have two trials. but in that case it must be three.
The way its going, the comp will be over before we start .

Also another strange thing is that the kids in the 12's in the School competion have scrums, but the clubs dont have them, also the schools play on a full field as well.
I meant to ask THE g\son what the Reps were doing. Could be anything.lol

We just happen to have Robina again this week. First round. Hopefully no shenanigans from the sidelines. Me thinks I'll be the Duty officer so if there are any knobs out on Friday night I guess I'll be dealing with 'em. Can't wait for that. :unamused:
