OFFICIAL Kurt Mann # TBA

Even allowing for it being well into another of our repetitive long off-seasons, that this thread has not long gone on to the second page a couple of days later shows just how meh this signing is seen.

Assuming that the dollars would be well below average for that single year, I see it as win win for the parties.

Handy player when he's on field.

1 year deal,
Better option than... Mavrik Geyer.

We're looking to add experience & this guy has it in spades.
Played origin last year which is closer than literally every other forward currently at the club.
For mine - he’s the starting 13 with Twal moving to starting prop to help May out.
Speeds us up around the middle.
Still gives the option for Brailey on the bench to help APIs minutes,
Pole coming on for impact, another prop we’ve been lacking with moving Twal.

Solves a couple problems if we can get him on the park for a bit.

Mann along with Frizell and Brailey will all play a consistent role in our 19 each week (assuming 100% fitness). They will provide better options and hopefully reduce the need to field guys like Mason, Hope, Lanyon, Afoa. They will force fringe players like Sione, Seyfarth, Hunt, Roberts and Sukkar to step up if they want to play NRL each week.
Fitness, hunger and attitude are the issues in question and you would hope that these guys are made of the right stuff and are sheer competitors by nature.
Nothing wrromg with Lanyon mate.. he is a good young player

Yep, he will be. I reckon Benji will start Teal at 13 with Mann off the bench. Our theory that Brailey will play some 13 is gone IMO.
I think Mann and Brailey will share the 13

Brailey could start in 13 for the first 20 minutes then 20 at hooker to give API a rest and API plays 60 Mann 60 Brailey 40 it's great to have options

Good post.
I agree.

I doubt he'll make our worst signings ever list.
Hopefully shows the youngins the way

I don't think he will add much on the field.

Coming from the Melb and the current Dogs system, he will be professional. He will cross the Ts, dot th Is with each training day. We need someone who lifts the standards of professionalism, put the weights back in the gym, fold your clothes, clean up after yourself then in a work setting- ask the coach questions, ask the physios if he can do something extra for injury prevention, continuously grows and challenges himself.

We need that stuff rubbing out on other players.

Someone like Latu can look at Mann and think- that's what I need to do to prevent injuries. Douehi can look at him and say, he takes times out to help out the younger players, maybe I should do the same.

I hope Mann and Brailey are that type of players.. who knows though

If we sign Frizell i dont think Benji will move Twal from lock.

Just my guess, but I think May, Pole and Twal will start in the middle. Sione, Frizell and Mann off the bench.
4th, 5th and 6th bench options will be Brailey, Seyfarth or Sukkar and an outside back.

Personally I would start Brailey at 9 and bring Api on after 20 minutes to finish the game. That means we only use 1 inyerchange on our hooker spot. Then we can say to May, give us a savage 20 minutes then you are off for a spell. Bring Sione and Mann on with Api after 20 to really up the leg speed through the middle. Twal moves to front row.
Frizell comes on for Pole after 25 minutes.

That leaves 4 interchanges.

May, Pole Twal come back on are the only definite changes needed. You then have 1 up your sleeve for injuries, and if no injuries, you just assess the game and see what u need. Maybe Brailey comes back on at 9, maybe he comes on at 13, maybe he doesn't come back on at all.

That gives each middle player 20 to 25 minute spells where they know they can let rip for that amount of time and we have quality to come on and continue it. Thats a big change from last year where May and Twal played big minutes. Less minutes, better quality will be key for us.

API off the bench would be great for the last 60 and Brailey has great defence for the first 20 minutes and is big for a hooker

After 20 minutes Bring API on Brailey to 13 Twal to prop and May have a rest and come back on at halftime

Savage from May? I lay my head down on the pillow of a night with more savagery than he is capable of exhibiting on the field.

Thats the instruction he needs. Clear instructions. Go play as hard as u can for shorter bursts. Doesn't mean he is going to be Paul Harragon like, but he will be the best version of himself.
