Kyle Lovett gone?

^Lovett is on big money?? I find that hard to believe really. If he is then our previous administration was stupider than what people give them credit for.

Whatever he is on he got from our current management you cant blame the old one.Someone mentioned he has re-signed under Taylor.

Lovett is on 200k - that isn't big money given the average top 25 player is on around 280-300k.

He is most probably on more than 200k - it was reported we were 200k over the cap so getting rid of him might put us a little under.

_The Tigers need to shed money to be salary cap compliant before the start of the NRL season. Lovett would free up around $200,000, even though that figure is much more than what the Tigers must save._

From the Tele.

BALMAIN great Steve Roach has implored the Wests Tigers not to sack Kyle Lovett over his drug possession charge and to sign a front-row partner for captain Aaron Woods after “carrying that pack for five years’’.

As the Tigers battle to hold on to Woods, James Tedesco, Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks beyond next season, Roach said another top priority was finding Woods an experienced book end to lead the club.

“I feel for Aaron Woods, I always have. I’d say he’s a mate of mine, and he’s had to carry that pack for five years,’’ Roach told The Daily Telegraph.

“My way of thinking is when a guy like Sam Moa came off contract (last year), I would have chased him to help Woodsy and the pack.

“I’ve been outspoken plenty of times about the Tigers. That doesn’t mean I don’t follow the Tigers. Of course I follow them. But I’m entitled to my opinion.

“I want to see Woodsy stay. You don’t see many one-club players these days.

“I’d also like to see the Tigers go out on to the marketplace and find somebody to help him.’’

Woods played with the likes of Todd Payten, Gareth Ellis and Keith Galloway, but shouldered most of the work up in recent years.

In the meantime, the Tigers face the more pressing concern of what to do with Lovett.

The local Tigers junior will front Downing Centre Local Court next Wednesday over a drugs possession charge after he was allegedly found with cocaine in the early hours of December 23.

Roach said Lovett was probably ‘’too scared’’ to raise the issue with Tigers officials who had already made it clear he was free to find another club.

‘’I know Kyle personally, he’s a wonderful kid, he’s had a hard up-bringing, he’s an idiot for what he has done, and I’d tell him that to his face,’’ Roach said.

“It’s not an excuse.

“But everyone deserves ne strike. I know the Tigers have been trying to shovel him along but if it was me, I’d give him another chance.’’

The Tigers need to shed money to be salary cap compliant before the start of the NRL season. Lovett would free up around $200,000, even though that figure is much more than what the Tigers must save.

The NRL are unlikely to stand in the way of the Tigers should they decide to sack Lovett if convicted. They will need to liaise with the NRL integrity unit before an outcome could be reached.

Corey Norman pleaded guilty to drugs possession and received an eight-week suspension, but Parramatta wanted to keep their playmaker.

“If he’s a mug, fair enough, you’re gone, but if he’s a decent bloke who has made one mistake, give him one chance,’’ Roach said.

It absolutely baffles me how its possible that the value of this mediocre group can add up to an above salary cap total. Its laughable really.
Blocker has really put the boot into Grant there. I thought he went pretty well last year. His Sam Moa comment was bang on though.

So blocker is supporting us this week is he? Im sure the clubs management will be falling over themselves to take on board any recommendations from this idiot after recent comments.

Sam Moa 2015 maybe but Sam Moa went off the boil in the back half of 2016.

I wouldn't turn on Blocker too much, he has his opinion and many of us disagree, but really he's not that different to half the punters on this forum who say things that other people consider dumb. That he still has a media presence is testament to his reputation as a player and long time in the industry. If he says dumb things, what does it matter? Sometimes even in dumbness he gives supporters something to chew on, particularly in the off-season.

For mine, I don't see why Grant and Ava cannot be the front-row support Woods need, with the emergence of Felise and Tatola over the next few seasons. Most clubs can't / won't carry two marquee props (I personally think it's a waste of money), and for the Grant/Ava price range I don't think you are going to do much better from another club. So Blocker is wrong there, that sort of investment needs to go into the backrow if we plan on spending more money on the forwards.

I think Blocker has a good point. There's been some recent success from clubs with multiple quality props/big locks:
- Cowboys got a premiership with Scott and Tamou leading the charge (plus Taumalolo).
- Roosters won three consecutive minor premierships with JWH and Moa (when they were both charging hard).
- Canberra made a big run into the finals last year off the back of Boyd and Junior Paulo.
- Bulldogs with Graham, Klemmer and Kasiano have made the finals for the last couple of years, including grand finals.
- Souths won in 2014 off the back of the Burgii.

I'm happy with ET at lock because I think he combines well with our halves, but it means we lack impact there. We don't have an extra battering ram like Taumalolo, Sam Burgess, Klemmer (who the Dogs shifted to lock late last year), Merrin or Gallen. Woods does his job but we need more impact out of our other three props. One of the three needs to really stand up and lay claim to the title of second best prop at the Tigers. At the moment they're all a bit same-same. You'd be happy to have them in your team as a third or fourth prop but they don't really stand out on a consistent basis. They've all got it in them so hopefully come the end of the season it will still be up for debate who is second best, but only because they've all had massive seasons.

I don't think Grant will be re-signed. I really think its time for Ava to stand up and really push for a starting spot. Really looking forward to seeing some more of JJ.

What recent comments?
Blocker is no more than a passionate supporter of the WT who wears his heart on his sleeve and sometimes vents on WT out of emotion. That is fair enough IMO and as one of, arguably the best, prop to have played in the last 30 or so years he is supremely qualified to pass his judgement on the role and needs of the front rower in RL.

Agree. There's a lot of things you can say about Blocker but no one can deny his passion. It's what got him turfed from 2GB and it's exactly why he has a strong opinion on these matters. He was the heart and sole of Balmain and as far as I'm concerned is more than entitled to voice his concerns whether he is right or wrong.
Add to that, he always gave me hope that fat blokes could play top level sport.

Do you mean bullying? Because that's why he was sacked.

The recent comments i alluded to were sticking the boot into management for allowing all of our key players coming off contract when their deals were struck under the old board. And his baffling cheap shot at Idris. It reeked of someone grinding an axe.

If that's how you want to refer to bullying an intern…

Bullying….please. It's character building!!

Truly baffling and laughable.
Grant is a fair role player and perhaps worth keeping but the cries of sympathy for Lovett are beyond a joke. This was our ticket to get rid of the guy. He doesn't belong in first grade anyway!
Anyone is an upgrade on him.
Moa (despite not his best season in 2016) is a huge upgrade.

Whatever happens to Kyle is of his own doing.

Any professional club in this situation will sit down and work out the best outcome for the Club, and not necessarily the player. That's the way things work in the real world.

If the club hangs onto him it will be because its in their best interests, not necessarily whats best for Kyle.

Newcastle are going to offer Matt Scott 1.5million over 2 years, so if Blocker wants us to buy a big name prop that's the sort of money you are going to have to spend.
I would prefer if we spent that money on the big 4, Nofo, JJ and co.

Matt Scott is worth double that, The team we could build around him would set us up for 20 years.
- We've had no leadership since 2000…
Matt Scott knows exactly which way to go - And he'll drag the other 13 with him.
His runs are nothing short of inspiring...
I wish we were throwing money at him, Or JWH and the likes....
