OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Gould is 100% right. Galvin is no where near a million dollar player but this is the day and age of managers and commissions are involved.
What got me was:

DCE

750k a season.

Look we don't 'need' him now. but you kinda look at Galvin for 1m Dylan Brown for 1.3m and DCE at almost half that...

Galvin, seems a 'solid' NRL player with points to improve in his game. 750 is what he is worth. 1m+ is what it will cost us to keep him. We will/should pay it because at least we know we get 750k taking the field for us (as opposed to say Sullivan on 500k and plays for reserve grade).

Million per year for Galvin is a bit steep, but it's ok.

Too many people act like the salary cap is still $5 million. It's gonna be $12 million next year. A million is only 1/12th of the top 30 salary cap.

Then take into account the fact the top 30 probably has 10 guys on minimum wage ($150k) you're looking at $10.5m to spread between 20 players. Comes to an average of 525k a year. Halves are obviously more valuable and then the fact Galvin has the potential to be a very good one means a million is realistically what you're looking at to start.

I reckon a bump up to $800k on his current deal and into an extension is about right.
What’s he on. $250k this year $350 next.
I’d go a restructured deal.
25 +400
26 +450
27 850k
28 900k
29 950k
Total of 3.5 mil stretched out over 5 years with a 3 year extension.

The more I listen to Phil Gould, the more I believe his insight.

Galvin isn't worth $5m.

He'll probably get it. And then he has to live up to it or get torn apart by fans & the media.

And if he leaves the Tigers for money- Gould is right. It's the tragedy of the modern game, where development & loyalty are secondary to management greed & fast cash.

and no doubt Gould is one of the primary bidders for him if he hits he market and will pay him $5m if he has to

DCE definitely won't be going anywhere for 750K/year. That offer from Manly was insulting. $1M minimum for him.

Latu and Galvin together would be top shelf.

Don't know why we offer a 5 year contract to Galvin when Luai is also off contract in 5 years. Both halves potentially out the door at the same time is playing with fire.
Luai can supposedly head elsewhere in 2027 if he wants.
IF Galvin and Latu develop at their expected rate, both could potentially be better players than Luai by 2027.

Its probably 5 years from end '26...takes him up to 2031

So, the expected rate for development will lead, in 2 years, to them (two 19 year olds) (potentially) being better than a 4 time premiership and State of Origin series-winning half?

I find that highly, highly unlikely.

You might be right about this although it is a bit ambitious, the thing is I don’t see Luai getting a better deal anywhere else in the league so can’t see him leaving. I don’t blame the club for wanting to lock Galvin down but this deal will pretty much guarantee Latu is at a different club in the next year or 2. I know people want to see either of them play lock or centre but I’m fairly sure they both only want to be half’s in top grade. On the plus if Fainu & Sullivan are off the books you can sign a elite back rower which takes the starting 17 to the next level IMO

Unfortunately you may be right as i believe Latu has more upside as a half than Galvin does.
I thought Galvin had the speed, anticipation, but was well in front of Toá, when Toá should have been along side of him to receive the ball for a line break a couple of times. What do I make of that?
1. Toá to slow off the mark to get in line with Galvin.
2. Toá too slow to see the opportunity and get in the best position to take on the defence.
3. Haven't gelled yet?
3. May urgently needed for shear speed 'n aggression.
4. IMO, for now at least, Galvin should be tested in the centres with Doueihi, with Latu the 5/8.
Galvins defence would be suspect at present, but has the stamina to be up in their face before they get a full head of steam. Just my thoughts.
