OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

from the 1st 30 min's i watched today Lachie looked relaxed, not some over hypo work dog . Dont think Latu is the answer ,his Mum laughed that he actually made 1st grade ,because he was /is always getting injured and i think the lady is right

I agree that he didn't have his best day, but the effort is there. It's the type of player he is. He lives every moment of the game. He doesn't take breaks when the outside backs are hitting the ball up. Any time you see broken field play, he is in amongst it trying to make a difference.

He's going to get better. Only thing I think he lacks is a bit of speed. There were a couple of times tonight where he had space on the outside but couldn't accelerate through the gap and got chopped down at the legs. Someone like Matt Burton would have sped through and scored.

Galvin killed a couple of overlaps today, but that all comes with experience and at least he is willing to back himself. He will be a elite player. The best thing Galvin could do is re sign for maybe three or four years with us and develop his potential and than look at the parasite clubs when at the peak of his powers.

It’s more than that though isn’t it? He often looks lost, bereft of any ideas. Instead of taking the tackle he’ll sometimes try the impossible play. I’ve no problem him doing this once he has the fundamentals downpat, but he doesn’t and was never given the opportunity to learn them in senior footy. He gets caught with the ball a lot whilst stalling for time. His kicking is hot and cold. He has ordinary acceleration, yet takes the line on regularly when a simple play through the hands will create space for the winger. He much prefers a double face ball to the winger than playing the numbers - it looks great when it comes off and that’s the problem.
He seems to believe the shortcut to fame and fortune is the highlight reel. Without building his base skills this is a house of cards and it has come down a bit over his 30 games so far.

Galvin spotted Marzhew being back waiting for the kick & opted to run it instead which gave Turuva his try & then threw the ball for the Starford try… I honestly found all the criticism aimed at him quite ridiculous tbh yes he had some bad moments but people forget this is a guy who hasn’t even played 30 games yet. Everyone just needs to chill out.
It’s because we’re rumoured to be offering him $5M for 5 years.

While he’s on a modest salary we can live with the good and the bad but if he’s on big money, the expectations go up.

And yes Luai has to do more as well.

the “run meters” stat that gets brought up isn’t necessarily a positive. He’s running too much in my opinion - least year when he was a bit more of an unknown quantity he could make some line breaks, but this year opposition are all over him, and he’s not strong enough yet to make more line breaks.

We need to remember that he set up 2 tries today. Yes, his kicking game wasn’t perfect, he made some passing errors, but he also takes a lot of chances - with that comes some mistakes.

This kid is 19 - he will be a superstar, provided he stays injury-free. The coaching team will help him round his game out, I have no doubt.

I really like Latu too. Hopefully we can keep him until Luai moves on to a retirement deal.

The way some of you are critical of Galvin would make you think we're a team coming off 3 premierships and not 3 spoons.

He's still contributing winning plays and is creating points each week. Sure he's not the finished product but he's also 19. He's shown as much in 30 odd games as Brooks did in 200.

He walks into half the league's halves pairings as is, and that's without considering how much room he has to improve.

Agree - the fast tracking means he has skipped forward a number of years in his development. Needs to learn to take the best option for the team - which is some times just taking your medicine and having a tough run or taking the tackle and looking for a quick play the ball. He is still playing like a dominant kid does in juniors. Hopefully Benji and Luai can mentor him to develop the seniors skills pretty quickly because he is an impressive player for his age

If you tell him to stop playing footy and just play simple all game, you're taking away all of his best weapons

Those kicks and passes he got wrong this week he's nailed in weeks previous, and everyone was full of praise for him

Expectations are far too high on him right now. As Benji says, he's just a kid and you have to let him play footy!

The real question, outside of the contract deal is: what’s Best for Galvin’s Development? We really need to forget the hype and focus on teaching him to play footy. I personally think that is the key to the contract drama in the background. He should go to where his game will be best developed; anything less than that is short sighted by him, his parents and his manger (who probably doesn’t care about anything but the $).

At this stage he is not much more than a teenager with a lot of potential. So, let’s park the headlines and look at what’s actually best for his development over the next 3-4 years; about the length I think his next contract should be.

Consistent First Grade Minutes
Galvin needs time on the field with an experienced half developing him. Whether it’s with the Tigers or elsewhere, regular game time in a stable role is crucial for building confidence and learning to control a match.

Mentorship from a Veteran Half
Playing alongside an experienced organiser to help him refine his decision-making, game management, and kicking game. He’s got the instincts, but is raw and makes poor decisions. It is time to add structure and polish to his game. The bird in the hand for us is Romey; he will learn so much from him, his energy and his ability to get a team around the park. There are not too many other clubs, with a development focus and room that can match that

Physical Development & Injury Management
He’s still developing physically. A high-performance environment that carefully manages his load while building strength will be vital in avoiding burnout or early injuries. I’m not sure how well equipped we are for that; however, with Latu in the wings we have the ability to rest him at times.

Clear Coaching Philosophy
Galvin’s game suits a team that wants to play fast, eyes-up footy — not one stuck in outdated, rigid systems. The best thing for him is a coach who’ll back his natural flair but also teach him how to control tempo, set up field position, and win ugly when needed. Ring a bell for anyone? Benji has been where he is and knows what he had to change in his game to have a long career in the NRL. Benji is probably the right coach for him – he will let him play footy and teach him how to manage.

Bottom line; whether he stays at Concord or goes elsewhere, the focus should be on long-term growth, not short-term pressure or headlines. My belief is that he is at the right club for his development and I would think he and his parents would be aware of that. I also have no doubt that Benji and Richo will hammer that point home.

He’s going ok but yes he does need to improve in some areas. The key is for him to not lose confidence. He is gaining more trust in his teammates as I think seyfarth and toa have seen more ball the further the season gone
I think for now he will be like James Maloney rocks and diamonds games

Our right side attack has been really good, and he's been the one mostly playing down that side also.
Imo only impact he made on that side yesterday was the first try, he elected to run instead of kick. To’a and Turuva made it happen. The second try was all To’a and the 3 was Bula.
