OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Crazy how nobody on here had any issues with
debuting Da Silva last year at 10cm taller & 10kg
heavier than Galvin (playing in the middle). I
know people have the best intentions for him
but he'll be fine if he's selected Rd.2 or in Rd.12
Bit different. Da Silva played 5 games for 20-30 minute spurts. There was no real expectation thrust upon him. People want to throw Galvin into the starting side.

Id say Galvin is use to the talk. They are targeted from a young age these days and he would be well use to the interest in him. He will either have the mental capacity to transition to FG or he won't. - it rarely comes easily .He has been identified, he has a massive opportunity to have a lucrative career he will have to get use to it if he is going to make it.
Nah

In lower grades it's talk amongst mates.

First grade it's Media, girls settings traps*, it's performing against adults- some who have 10+ years of maturity ahead of you. It's interpersonal skills.

The right psychologist can manage all that. Yet maybe it's a good idea to feed Luai to the Wolves at Halfback for awhile. Let your Galvin/Fainu/Sullivan** manage first grade on a regular basis

*yes footballers abuse many, yes some girls do entrap them..i.e. Brett Stewart.
** He has a little experience, but is still pretty new.

Man I've given it some thought & I'm genuinely
fine with it. Has all the attributes, the kid is
a champion player, a winner. I'd hazard a guess
that some ppl are worried 4 him on here than
he is of starting a game. Isaiya Katoa who had
much less accolades started in the halves last
year for a new franchise (dolphins) and did fine.
If the coaching staff who have been with him
day in/day out 4 the last 12 weeks say it's go
time than it's go time - who are we 2 question

It’s one thing to get pats on the back at school & controlling the narrative it’s another seeing your name all over the media in an uncontrolled way as that just doesn’t impact you it impacts the family, team mates, public etc.
The dynamics, expectations & optics are different.

If he doesn’t play NRL consistently within next 12-18mths the kid will be hammered in a big way & at some stage it will hit mentally.

I really think the media beatup has been a massive over kill, it’s coming across that he is our savior for a team that has been rock bottom 2yrs in a row - expectations no kid should have on their shoulders.

Just let him play and shine is I say.

No offence but bunji had a thousand shoulder reconstructions, Liddle had a double, it’s just not worth it, your bones are not truly solid until 21 years. Why risk him, not f he’s playing 5/8th there is no doubt that coaches will send every unit at him.
Again why risk him? It’s not like we are winning the comp this year or even making the 8!
I have no problem later in the year bringing him in as a centi get the feel of the game, much harder to run your massive units at him out there.
Not worth it…..

In a perfect world sure. But his name is out there and he won't be the last young player with this type of beat up. You can bet your life his manager is also eager to reap the benefit of his talent by making sure he is on every clubs radar.

With professional sport comes challenges. The good ones will get inflated contracts before they have done anything worthy on the field to earn them, and you can't expect to be paid well without a level of expectation that you can deliver.

Not using my memory here which is hopeless... But wiki had him starting last year in SG Ball, moving to Flegg and State cup before debiting off the bench for NRL late in the season... He gradually got a taste of playing older maturer players, not thrown in the deep end which is my issue... Though as someone said if the coaches reckon he's ready then let's rock & roll.
Don't see the point myself when we're expected to finish the bottom end of the ladder again

The main difference between da silva and Galvin is tackling technique and football toughness da Silva was used to tackling grown men via his dad so we was ready for his first grade debut. Galvin is a flair player.

No, it’s not the same.
For starters, Tallyn had some experience training with and playing against men. The schoolboys Lachie has been mixing it with are as soft as puppyshit compared to NRL regulars.
He was also used sparingly, for short spurts. Opposition attacks couldn’t concentrate on exploiting his weaknesses for prolonged periods.
Being in the middle, he was also covered with experienced protection. You get isolated in defence easier in the backline.

That all said, I did have an issue with his accelerated ascension and voiced those concerns on here. Quite a few agreed. I didn’t see much upside to using him last year and am not convinced it was worth it developmentally.
This year, I’m all for it. He’s had over a year in the senior systems and looks ready to go.
Only 12 weeks over summer has me concerned for Galvin.

He is a kid. Like cmon how many 18yrs you know are going oh I have a high paying job lets be responsible and be fully aware of expectations associated mixed with managers, media and legal things all swirling around whilst going to school.

A difference between expectations, being use to it & the impact of different levels of expectations have.

Just because his name is out and about (not him doing it) means squat re his salary and ability to manage the expectations.

Just let the kid be a kid and play footy creating his own legacy however it unfolds without all the pressure of fans expectations which will absolutely slaughter him if he doesn’t live up to the media/fan hype.

You raise some good points, fair enough!

It’s a bit different.
Katoa had been exposed to professional footy ahead of season 23.
He was around, trained with and played in NSW Cup…including a finals appearance.
He was around, trained with and played in The World Cup with Tonga…including a finals appearance.
He also came through the Penrith pathways…worth its weight in gold.

With all due respect, our coaching staff have not earned enough confidence in their decision making yet to just be believed. Benji is the luckiest appointment in professional Rugby League. Let’s not forget, he and Robbie are being talked up, but were heavily involved with our spoon last year. Morris was backstabbed at Cronulla so it’ll be interesting to see how he performs.
We bought some reasonably touted halves last year for big coin. Why is this kid leapfrogging them? If he spent last year kicking arse in Flegg and Cup, his selection would have more weight behind it.
It is right to be asking questions at this stage.

How about everyone trusts Benji and the coaching staff to make the right decisions on who is ready for NRL and who isn’t ?
Too many people commenting on subjects they know next to nothing about.
Right, so your telling us to trust a coach with next to no previous coaching experience. Come on…
Love bunji but, Come on…,
