OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Funny how the NRL wouldn't let Laurie Daley do any work for us and he also had to pass up other opportunities which no doubt cost him financially not to mention possible reputational damage because of his supposed conflicts of interest with his gambling connections.

I have to agree that you have to keep any perception of corruption due to gambling well away from the game, it is in no way a good look, but somehow it's OK for Gus to say or do whatever he likes and the NRL look the other way pretending there is no conflict of interest.

Weak or corrupt, make up your own mind.

The game is riddled with it, that Vlandys is a scum bag and there’s plenty of match fixing involved.

I think back to that game against the Cowboys 2023?? The bullshit penalty captain challenge at the end of the game, absolute farce that happened and ofc it happened to us, it will never happen again btw the only team to lose like that will be the Wests Tigers

I hate how the host mentioned tigers should offer Galvin a 10 year deal and he didn’t respond then goes onto say who ever Galvin is playing for will win premierships
A 10 year deal on massive 5/8 money that's just talking out your arse what club would be stupid enough to offer that, in 5 years he could fill out to the size of a bus, thank god dumb & dumber are gone it may have been possible.

I would have thought the NRL would jump at the opportunity to remove him considering how he describes the administration and refereeing. He has gone a long way towards convincing a large section of the fanbase that the NRL refs are fully corrupt and/or incompetent.
He does this during prime time free to air coverage. He also attacks the admin about how the game is run, whilst feathering his own nest.
He has convinced everyone that he is an authority on the game to the point that it affects the recruitment negotiations he enters into as a part of his other roles.
It is the very definition of conflict of interest.

There used to be the saying that Gus truly believes he put air into the football. I hate most commentators. I can really count on one hand the ones I actually do enjoy, but there is a level of arrogance that he carries that no other commentator comes close to. I especially hate his monologues right before Origin games. It’s pretty much the last thing that you see pre game. Like channel 9 saying “Here ladies and gentlemen. Words from your king”.

Agree 100%. He also goes out of his way to praise players on tv that he is targeting for recruitment. It's absolutely astounding the position he is in to benefit the Dogs

Yes but so far has it worked? 'Pulled out' of Ben Hunt, Luai, Terrell, Fifita, Stefano and others I'm sure. Doesn't seem to be working out for old Gussy boy. So far Richo has landed basically all targets while Gus has 'pulled out of' (missed and leaked that to the media to save face) most targets.

I understand he hasn't landed every body he has gone after. That doesn't change the points being made.

I don't know. He is paid for an opinion and he gives it. People can come out and refute it if they want.

Any player, coach or club administrator can go on tv, talk to the papers, start a podcast, youtube channel etc. if they want to. It's not like the rules are different for Gus vs anyone else.

The problem is that 9 have built him up over the past 2 decades to be the oracle of the game. Everyone on the Tele with him is a yes man. Teenage players and their families have grown up with him being presented as THE expert on all things Rugby League.
He is an ex player, an ex coach and an administrator therefore knows what he’s on about….
The problem is, his playing days were during a time when training meant 5 laps around the oval, a half hour of kicking field goals followed by a dozen frothies down the pub. His coaching days were outside of the modern era and he has steadfastly refused any gigs within it. He also takes far too much credit for the successes of Penrith especially, NSW Origin and the Roosters.
He has a lot of people fooled.

Like I said. Nothing stopping anyone from going out and exposing him if that's how they feel about it.

In any case, this was about conflict of interest. I don't really see the conflict. Any coach can spew their opinion on the game during the press conference or they have a forum to express concerns directly to the NRL. Gould has more access to the masses through media, but players and coaches get air time on Fox all the time. If you don't have people involved in the game making commentary, then you have a bunch of guys who aren't involved making comment on guys that are involved. That wouldn't be great either.

I agree - I don’t see a conflict there. Gould is actually quite positive about the tigers and why wouldn’t he be about Galvin.

The Bulldogs and many other clubs will put an offer to Galvin. At present, we are in the hot seat; he’s signed with us and it’s a club in an area where he grew up. We just need to perform on the field and he’ll re-sign with tigers.

The NRL should step forth and advise it is either the Canterbury job or the commentating, not both.

Signing for Canterbury makes no logical sense for Galvin, Canterbury have a stockpile of promising 5/8's on their books, so why stop their progress??

Most clubs are going to make a strong play at Galvin and given he’s repeatedly asked for a release I’d say he’s likely to leave.

In saying that I can’t remember if we ever had this much depth in the halves. Luai, Galvin and Fainu then AD as another backup if those three are injured/out of form.

It’s a strange position for us to be in but overall it’s a positive one.

Yes there is.
He is being backed by the broadcaster and the games administration are not objecting to it. What chance does anyone else have when he is getting a free ride weekly with legends of the game pumping his tyres?
As for the conflict of interest, he has been sold to the Rugby League world as an extremely successful authority on the game. He uses this narrative along with his connections, also supplied by his job at 9 to aid him in recruitment for whatever club he works at.
He also uses his access to the free tv audience in a 2 hour weekly broadcast to push for rule changes or interpretations that will affect his club positively.
