OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Galvin’s mental health is a separate issue to his contract obligations. As long as tigers are seen to be supporting him in his playing and training role then it’s fine. Play him in ressies until whenever. He’s getting paid 300k which is massive for a young bloke. If he is no longer able to perform his role due to his health then get salary cap compensation. He still can’t play for someone else until we say.

The RLPA have joined Canterbury boss Phil Gould in raising concern for Lachlan Galvin’s mental health and welfare as the fallout from his decision to shut down contract talks with Wests Tigers has intensified.

The players’ union is set to hold talks on Wednesday about the Tigers’ handling of the 19-year-old’s decision to leave the club at the end of next season, which has prompted senior players to front coach Benji Marshall and demand that he be dropped for Monday’s game against Parramatta at CommBank Stadium.

It prompted social media responses from Tigers captain Jarome Luai and winger Sunia Turuva which stoked the drama amid reports the playing group had turned on the young half.

There’s since been a shift within the playing group, with members of the team now recognising the backlash has gone too far, and there’s a responsibility to protect the teenager from a potentially serious situation. (DT)

I dont think you can play the mental health card when you've made comments like you have about the coach and being demoted. The club needs to stand up here. Can't have Moses continually treat our club like this. The RLPA need to have a look at Moses if anyone at this stage.

Ivan did the same with Tito. Play on.

He isn't playing the card, the media is.

It was inevitable and that's why I was saying that the Tigers should have acted quicker and addressed the posts by Luai and Turuva.

Now it's too late and now even though we have done everything right, fingers will be pointed at us.

It is best for both parties to "back each other" in public. Galvin is still contracted to us til 2026. A drop in his value right now means we have less bargaining power with other clubs who want him.

Richo just needs to come out and simply say:
1. Galvin is in our plans for 2026 and we have full faith that he will contribute to this team. He is an amazing player and we want him to do his best for us for 2 years.
2. We have addressed the Luai Turuva situation internally
3. The squad and the management backs the entire coaching staff.

Who care if it's BS. Show them that we care for our players.

Close it off and move on..

Galvin has a right to be looked after, but at the same time if a player tells their club with 18 months left on his contract that he won’t even consider their offer, that club has every right to start prioritising other players ahead of him. The club can’t be forced to pick him.

He hasn’t played the MH card.

Nothing stupid by Luai, his post was fine and could be perceived as "a generic statement".

Turuva crossed a line 💯
I personally don't think either were fine.

I understand what both were trying to do. They were probably trying to show that team comes first, that they back Benji and the club. You don't have to put down a 19 year old to do that.

In the next presser, simply come out and say, we love Benji and that we believe he is getting the best out of us. Leave Galvin out of it. Don't put down someone to show support to someone else.
