Galvin played very well and looks good when he has runners hitting holes. It's strange how often Preston breaks the line off a Galvin short ball. Every team knows that if Galvin goes to the line and Preston is directly beside him that it's going to be short ball and yet 9 times out of 10 Preston breaks the line.

Starting to get flash backs to Darius Boyd at the dragons playing fullback in that sweeping play they did everyone knew Darius would get the ball and he keep scoring try's

Definitely had his best game so far for the Dogs last night. The whole team was switched on, their forward pack was enormous, bashed Penrith from pillar to post and shut down Cleary’s options.
Whether Galvin and the Dogs can continue this turn around in form is anyone’s guess, it’s a long season. In any case, they have the honour of being the first team to knock off the seemingly unbeatable Panthers!

Galvin had a good game.
Granted he is a one trick pony short ball player but held firm defensively and just kept going at something that was working but also throwing in some changes (that didn’t work) into the mix.
Panthers though were terrible, Blaze had his worst game in NRL and the key players made the simplest of errors that you never see from them.
But Galvin exploited it.

Penrith were terrible and Dogs were enormous in defense. Galvin had an above average attacking game (for him) and i would say his defense was exceptional (for him) the one area he has improved at the Dogs is defensively, in terms of attack he has become a one trick pony, however kudos to Ciraldo and Gus for persisting. Long may he remain at 7! that game has probably secured the 7 for him till at least the end of the season. Unless Preston cops a long term injury or loses form.

The play to Preston is so obvious..His body is so direct that for him to pass out the back he needs to swivel so far which takes time. Does my head in how teams can't make up one on one against those two.
Tupenuia from the bench is the best player they got at the moment. He brings so much when he comes on.
He’s just a handful , and sure you know it’s coming , but his late footwork at the line ,leg drive and power makes it impossible to stop , especially with a fullback sweeping like Tracey last night , who was doing damage on the block shape . That split second your held up , means you can’t get your shoulders in front … and it’s all over at that point .
It starts on the edge there IMO . If the centre get up early and winger follows it forces Galvin to throw a floater over the top or drop off to Tracey with a man on him and rely on quick hands .
I think the edges of Penrith were passive last night which allowed Preston to get in between defenders, and got Talagi arm grabbing . The dogs ran good shape . Gotta give them credit .

If Blaize Talangi isn't the worst defensive 5/8 in the game he's close to it. Penrith have been good at hiding him in defense and giving him very simple jobs in attack. In my opinion, he's probably more overrated than even Galvin because he just so often takes poor decisions or executes badly. Still young, but I bet Penrith would replace him if they could.
Both Yeo and Cleary were well off their best and it exposed penrith's weaker players. You saw papalii looking gassed and ill disciplined again and garner getting belted both in attack and defense. If you were to identify a weakness in early season form of Penrith it would have been that left edge defense. Well done to Galvin and the dogs for exposing it.

He has more to his game then just a short ball as some have stated, his variety of passing and occasional moments of vision are what got him admiration. It has been his consistency and execution which has been well off for a while. He definitely took great options last night and even moved to the other side and almost setup kikau straight away, if not for the pass being a little off. He looked like a halfback yesterday, against all my expectations. Let's hope it doesn't continue. But it was interesting to see progression in his game and highlights how young players need time to find their game.

When he's on he's a little like Adam Doueihi, tall big body, but he normally makes too many errors & bad decisions when playing like that, more rocks than diamonds.
Simplifying his game proved to bring dividends for the Dogs as a team last night, the closest to being really "on" he has been since joining the Kebab Krew at Belmore.
All up I hope Wests Tigers get to play the Dogs in the finals, better still in an elimination semi or dare I say Grand Final? 😉

As a ball player you must be quick to assess the defensive line of your opposition, when to pass early, when to engage the line and pass, when to run. Galvin often gets this wrong but what makes him look good is the options his teammates are giving him consistently. Preston has great timing and hole running skill and Tracey is looming around the back. There are other options as well. Once their forwards can get a roll on, they can come forward with that momentum and Galvin has time to play one of the many options he is being provided by the players around him.
The difference is exactly that- the guys around him doing that work, making those runs, putting in that effort. So as a ball player in a team with no go forward (so less time and space) plus few options to play to, you are stepping back inside or trying to run and getting hammered constantly. This description was the Tigers of many seasons past.
