OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277

The other issue is he will only cost $350,000 next year which may allow WTs to buy another good young player to strengthen the roster.
As many have stated, we still hold the cards in this situation as long as we hold firm.
  • If he plays for us in 26 we get a resource worth up to $1M for $350K. The mill is for potential, but he is certainly worth a lot more than we'll be paying him. Thats great business.
  • If he is traded for 26, we will likely be trading for a resource worth a lot more than what Lachie costs us if he stays. That resource will also be worth that money now...not potentially. Thats good business. I say good as we still lose Lachlan early and his career is going to be long, however his replacement trade could be young as well....Still a win.
  • If his form drops and we make him play KOE or we move him to another position in the NRL team, not only is that team strengthened but he isnt costing us much and we get the chance to develop Latu whilst having a very good backup should he fail or be re-injured. Again, we have lots of options here that wont hurt our cap.
  • If the worst happens and he refuses to play, we sit him out for the year, write off $350K which is doable, and send a very big message not to F with us to opposition recruiters, managers and of course our up and coming pathways stars.
  • This is not to mention we also have up to 18 months to sort our cap out and re-sign certain players or begin talks with outside hires.

That's a good summary. Having him in our squad makes WTs' stronger for little outlay and preventing him from joining another club weakens one of our opponents.

The trade for 26 for a topline forward is my choice of your scenarios Tuck hope Richo can make it happen.
Between now and season end there could be more than Parra putting their hand up for him a lot can happen in that timeline and the chance of more options of trade if he is happy going to that particular club.

Fair comment, had they not done so winning would have been made so much more difficult and the media all over us again.
Oh mate I agree with you completely. Had we booed and lost it would have been all over the media... remember when we booed Ivan, woods, teddy etc tigers fans were scum etc etc

Can someone please explain to me other than 1 cool try assist to Samuela and a dodgy kick with a lucky bounce where TDS managed to score through his own brilliance what Lachlan Galvin did to deserve 2 Dally M points??? Do the guys that give these points even watch the game?

Thought Galvin had a mixed game. Few moments of brilliance but a lot of mistakes. Took the wrong option a few too many times (I.e hospital pass to To’a and Seyfarth). Can see the potential just gotta learn when the play isn’t on and that’ll come with experience. Thought his kicking game in second half was pretty hopeless. Gave sharks easy field position a few too many times.
Dally M points are just a joke,
Nearly every week in multiple games there are points given to players that have had very ordinary games.
I’m sure if they can’t think who deserves points they just pick one of the big names in the team usually one of the spine.

I read articles (Jack Bostock today) where the players speak in a very humble manner about how they want to stay and help themselves and their club improve...It keeps taking me back to the Galvin situation and why this 19yo just doesn't seem to be appreciative as other players are; why this 19yo kid is NOT willing to help the club and coach that has given him his break in the NRL; why this kid is not even willing to hang around for 3-5 years with his WT mates and build the WT to a premiership contenter.

In 5 years time he will only be 24, in the prime of his career, if he then doesn't like what he has seen at the WT then move onto another club. He has never been invested in the club or coach that has given him his NRL break!!!

Yes it was good to get that win last weekend, and yes he saved a try with that desperate tackle.....IMO Galvin is still a selfish, entitled brat...who is suing this club....I hope Benji moves Galvin to 13 or 14 for the rest of the year when Latu has recovered from his injury

I think if we don't land for 2026
either
DCE or Reynolds
we will hold Galvin to his 2026 contract
We'd be stupid to sign any of them over keeping Galvin who we are paying basically unders for..
Both are old and have higher risk of injury and come at 2 - 3 X the cost of Galvin.
Money better spent developing other areas or our depth as Latu starts finding his feet.

Both in the top 5 halfbacks in the game still, experience, leadership, superior general kicking, game management, confidence boost amongst team mates & mentoring of Latu to take over.

dont just play.latu because you think he is the only option
keep Galvin in then play him off the bench
Halves should be
7. Reynolds/ DCE
6. Luai

give latu fainu time to develop in reserve grade. It did not hurt Pezet or Harry Grant to wait

Do the clowns even watch the game or do they allocate points by reputation and the current hype?

In a perfect world, yeah sure..

But that's what we are paying Jarome for. He is here to play halfback. How's that going to go down with him?

Why pay 3 X the amount for someone who's 36 and more injury prone, when we already have a resource and desperately require depth?

If we get injuries in the front or backrow we are stuffed... We are gonna be screwed when May plays origin, let alone if we had 2 or 3 injuries... We will be back to the spoon again.

If we get an Injury in the halves we have a few to pick from.

Id be really disappointed if we went after either of those players given the depth of halves we have and Sullivan technically on the books for 26.

What DCE and Reynolds offer you is an elite kicking game. Great sides have great kicking games. Ours at present is below par, but getting better slowly but light years away from being elite.

Of course at their age injury is a concern and we are already top heavy in the halves department. I think I would probably direct the money at a quality forward and maybe a class centre and hope our kicking game improves

And how about our depth issues? What do we do then?
