In my opinion there is far to much condemnation of our recruiting staff and coach so far this off season..we must consider all the calamity that we have endured in the last few years to take into perspective where we are now,all the shouting about not signing top marquee players is a bit over the top when we have to sort the fundamental mistakes others have made,Reynolds,Matalino,Matto for eg,big money contracts, most of the time spent on the sidelines or left for greener pastures, the RF affair etc..
Maybe if we stop and think for a minute that the staff are constantly trying to do the right thing by the rules and what money they have but not to make the same mistake as others have previously. No mean feat since there was a huge mess to cleanup.
Im not worrying to much atm because Iam relying on the core people within the club to finally make the right decisions in regards to players and funds available.

Funds is not the problem not making finals for 8 straight years is ,even if some on this forum keep shooting me down.If LM signs for south’s for 400k as reported what does that say about the west’s tigers

It would mean he wanted to go and play with all his Aboriginal mates.

It says to me that he has friends at Souths who he wants desperately to play with...
It says that WTs made him a very good offer but he wants to be with his mates...
WTs proved that they were genuine and honest in their dealings with LM,however he wants to play with indigenous players first and foremost...

If LM said 'I don't want to play at WTs because they don't suit me'then that would be an entirely different discussion..

Elite players want to sign with strong clubs so they get a good shot of playing rep footy and earning match bonuses. Even if they take a slight pay cut to do so.

Some clubs (particularly one city teams) can help out with third party deals too. We have always struggled in that area.

Tedesco is a good example. He earns quite a bit extra non salary cap money at the Roosters. Even if we could have matched payments under the cap, the extra payments can easily equal $200k per year.

Not really. 3rd Party payments were listed recently and we paid out more than the Roosters. It might be true for Tedesco but if that information is accurate the Roosters team are paid less than the Tigers team based on 3rd party payments.

I also think that elite players will still get picked. Frizzel and Ben Hunt play for Saints and still were picked in rep teams.

it will take time for preconceived thoughts about our club to change and for the culture to change.

It's just challenging for us fans who continually see our team miss out on finals footy...every year nrl is getting more and more boring...

I’d be reserving an opinion on that because he looks quite fit now. Great idea of Madge to train up to the season ending GF. Doesn’t make sense to reward players with a holiday because they lost their last game and didn’t make the play offs.

Even if it costs one of the brothers a spot in souths' top 30 - a club that they presumably love too? I can't understand. All along he's been saying he needs to take care of his family - the reason for his initial release was to 'test the market and see his worth' this is not it. He has a young family to think of, three kids at 22, taking a gamble on a cut-rate price is dumb knowing damn well you can get injured.

Do you really believe he would be taking a gamble? Are we that naive to believe this suggestion?

Should I believe that he'll get payed more than what he'll be officially registered for P&C?

Hard work all of that to be fair...

Edit: contract will still need to get registered

Actually Earl Tedesco's and Cronk's TPA's weren't included in that piece

Tedesco had 2 TPA's at the WT's , can't speak for Cronk

Huge gamble if he signs a contract of $400k for one year and gets badly injured.
Then he's all on his lonesome.

I know a bloke who was signed to a two year deal for the Roosters from Wyong just a few years ago to cover for a few injuries. He was part of the squad that went to play in the World Club Challenge. A squad of 30 flew to Dubai where they trained for a week prior to the top 18 flying on to the UK. While in Dubai, uncle Nick bought this bum a $12,000 watch because he liked the look of it in a shop window. Can you imagine what the top players are getting as Christmas pressies? TPA's. Hahaha.

CK,I don't believe for one minute that LM will take 400k for a season,I would hazard a guess that the wiley old Bennett is somehow saying the roorters will pay some and souths pay the 400k...I don't really know because this is such a circus atm that nobody will know until its over..

You're right that the TPS system has been tightened up.

But for a while, Melbourne had $1 million in TPS payments which was a massive edge.

TPS might not be be as much of a disadvantage going forward but it was a major factor in us failing to attract talent.

He is taking a gamble so long as he doesn't have a signed contract. Anyone suggesting anything else is being naive. If there is a dodgy under the table deal and he gets injured that deal will disappear.

Don't think for one second that Latrell has this all sorted out. It may turn out okay for him but it's looking pretty dodgy for the guy.

8 years without a Semi Final appearance is disgraceful and unjustifiable. I've been a season ticket holder for 4 years, but this is the first season that I'm struggling for motivation. It seems like we back a horse in the Melbourne Cup that you know cannot win.

The NRL and the so-called "policing" of TPA's are a huge reason why a lot of us get the feeling of WT being a horse we back that has no chance of winning a title.
How many teams in 2020 will have any real hope of being premiers? Probably no more than 5 or 6, if that. The NRL is rapidly becoming a lopsided joke of a comp (like the EPL) where there are only a small handful of clubs with any hope.
That is the most demoralising part.

I agree, it just annoys me that teams like Parra Manly and Raiders even manage a standout year and get to a Prelim Final, yet 9th is where our ceiling is
