Lamb Ad - 2017

I, like others, thought this had to do with Terry Lamb.

Now that's scary. I need a puddle of vomit emoticon.

This post has travelled along many weird paths.

Indigenous boxer Anthony Mundine has slammed the controversial Australia Day lamb campaign as "racist, bro", while his former teammate Wendell Sailor, who features in the advert, has defended it.

Earlier this week, I sat down with Mundine for an interview ahead of his fight with Danny Green at Adelaide Oval on February 3.
It seemed natural to ask him about the lamb advertisement that has polarised opinion.
The campaign begins with a group of Indigenous Australians having a barbecue on a beach as ships of explorers reach the shore. Olympic hero Cathy Freeman makes a cameo, as does Sailor, who is wielding a lamb chop like it's a glowstick to the beats of the 1993 hit What is love? (Baby don't hurt me, no more) from Trinidadian-German Eurodance artist Haddaway.
When I raised the ad with Mundine, he had no idea what I was talking about. I pulled it up on You Tube on my mobile phone and Mundine's mood dramatically changed as he watched.
"You can't make motherf–---- jokes like that," he said. "Things are dead serious. Things haven't been righted. That's the thing, man – it's racist but Aussies make a joke about it … No. Racist, bro. For me, it's just making a mockery of what happened and made it into a fun gesture.

"That's how Australians take everything, in their psyche. They don't know they're racist. They wouldn't even think they're racist. To me, for someone who has grown up as an Aboriginal man in this country, who has been pulled over by coppers all throughout my teens, being judged, had guns drawn on me when I was a kid, that's racist, man. They can't relate to it.
"That day [January 26] is about mourning, raping, pillaging and murdering our ancestors to take over this land. Everybody in a position of power that can make change for the benefit of our people. The system has oppressed our people for so long and that advertisement makes jokes about something sacred about our history."….........

Haven't you heard of context? Every year the lamb adv is acted out at Aussie Day, as Aussie Day is almost upon us and no other lamb adv is playing we can take it for granted that this is the defacto Aussie Day adv. . The actual message is post Invasion Day where it is not supposed to matter anymore as it old hat and there are no wounds to heal, or compensation to be made. There were whites who already felt like that 200 years ago but according to Senator Brandis it is okay to be a bigot - just ask Pauline.

I just thinks its un-Australian that its not on a Friday! Dr's will be busy handing out certificates.

Always felt that Australia Day should be the same day as Federation Day, that's where Australia was truly born. Substitute the holiday for the 2nd of Jan. There would be minimal disruption to businesses as well as most businesses (excepting retail and hospitality of course,) would largely have most staff on leave still.

Anyway, didn't mind the ad but at the end of the day it is just a marketing ploy to hock lamb.

100% agree with your sentiment CB - It probably would be the official day of Australia if it was on any other day of the year.

Invasion Day as it's known in my family is the 26th.

Having said that, it's a bloody great ad - they should flog plenty of lamb

Not necessarily, the ad doesn't mention you should eat it on Australia Day therefore is not inferred.

/sarcasm

Choc was never too bright… The ad is in no way racist
Lucky he's good at sport

He's barely said anything that made sense for a decade. I feel sorry for the indigenous he claims to "represent".

I'm offended that all they ever show is the lamb cutlet. Who can afford that stuff? What's wrong whit the poor old sirloin chop or the neck?

My dog likes the neck, whilst I go for the strap or mid loin.
