Last chance for Sheens

He WAS the best thing to have happen to this club. So was Scott Prince. Sheens failure to fill the role and his overall poor recruitment & retention in the past four seasons though cannot be ignored.

Sorry, but how many players come off contract in any given year? I think it is around 80-100\. Of them, probably half get re-signed by their respective clubs. That leaves about 40-50 players available in the pool where clubs compete for their signatures. That is slim pickings and you would be lucky to find a halfback of any real class amongst that lot. Therefore, you must develop your own.

There has only been one recuiting decision that I think Sheens got wrong and that was not finding room under the cap to keep Hodgson. This season could have seen Farah-Moltzen-Marshall-Hodgson in the 9-7-6-1 positions.

You are kidding. He is still one of the top 5 coaches in the competition.

It would be a ridiculous decision to let him go. He is the best thing that ever happened to this club

Whaaaaaaaaaaat? How can a coach that misses 4 straight final series be regarded as a Top 5 coach.. even better.. one final series since '96\. I guess you fell for the "Supercoach" BS that gets sprouted out at every opportunity.

Do you keep a guy who has had success back in the past but has failed to deliver every year since? I sure as hell wouldn't.

Sheens had the chance to sign dominating halfbacks in the past (ie Kimmorley, Sherwin, Monaghan, Finch, "that rugby half that was a done deal" and even Pearce). He chose not to though and stuck by Morris for two and half years.

Develop our own halves?. We had Moltzen and Lazarus dominating in reserves as teenagers against more experienced players and Sheens then decides to turn both into fullbacks. Same with Dunley moved throughout NYC between half and hooker.

… don't get me started on Hodgson. The decision not to offer him a two year deal was pure stupidity.

There are only 2 coaches who I think are better than him, Bennett and Bellamy. The rest are either very early in their careers or a just a flash in the pan. Could possibly think about including Henry, but it is still very early days for him. I would not replace Sheens with any other coach in the competition other than the two mentioned above.

However, let's go back to the comment regarding 4 years in a row of not making the finals. Firstly, we have not been getting wooden spoons, secondly, the margins each year for missing the 8 has been narrow every time:

2006: 2 wins
2007: equal (for and against)
2008: 2 wins
2009: likely 1-2 wins

They are skinny margins for error. Yes it is frustrating, but in any of those years, would we have won the comp? I seriously doubt it- we would have been time wasting cannon fodder. That is the most disappointing aspect of this season is that if we stayed fully fit, we could have had a decent shot at a title. Injuries have killed us this year, not the coach.

Bakerloo I will call you . . . . . . . .Joanie Cuningham

any other coach would have seen the tigers finish at the bottom somewhere.
they only thing i am worried about is if shens goes, benji n even robbie may go too.
they both need to stay at the tigers all their careers. they are now the heart n soul of the team.
i can not imagine robbie and/or benji in another jersey.
