I like the looks of Griffin but he has a star studded team and looks likely to miss the 8\. Is he really the answer?

That the only issue I have too

He took over brisbane during their rebuilding phase in the post darren lockyer era which has been the roots of that clubs struggles. The whole club struggled as a result as they couldn't find a replacement half and as such missed out on the finals last year.

This year his coaching i think has been awesome, even though they may not make the 8\. The broncos haven't lost a game by a big margin all year and have been in every game, showing he can instill a good attitude into his team.

Defence is clearly the basis of his coaching philosphy and as we've seen with Ben Hunt this year he lets his halves roam around outside their structures to link up with their edge players (would fix up our attack 100x).

It also says alot about the coach when the players would prefer to keep playing under him rather then a wayne bennet.

I doubt we will get him (because his the logical choice) but i would be estatic if we could somehow sign him up on a 3 year deal

Excellent points Tony. Let's hope it's him

It is believed Anthony Griffin will be in contention when the new Wests Tigers board makes a decision on the club's coaching future next week.

Griffin took over the Brisbane Broncos in a time of transition which Gorden Tallis believes will make him a good fit to rebuild the Tigers.

"When he's career is on the line he is not afraid to make hard decisions,"

"He took the captaincy off Sam Thaiday so he has made some huge decisions," Tallis said on Sydney's Triple M Rush Hour.

The Wests Tigers publicly stated a Top 8 finish would secure coach Mick Potter's services beyond 2014.

In the last six weeks, the Tigers have not won a game and face wooden-spooners Cronulla this weekend.

Matt Parish is the front-runner to take over with both assistant coaches Todd Payten and David Kidwell among the candidates.

Anthony Griffin has coached the Broncos for four years before he was removed to make way for foundation coach Wayne Bennett to return.

Lol Geordie is advocating for someone else to take his 'good mate' Potters job.

Of those mentioned there give me Griffin….but that's only when lookingat those names.

So the guy has made tough decisions...OK that's good. But has he got the desired results with much better resources than what we will provide him? NO. He has the dream job in the NRL and failed.

Griffin hasn't done a bad job but when you put it in perspective to how much talent broncos have, the money and esp the time he had with them ( I think he's been coaching hunt since u20s)- i don't think he's got them a top 4 finish.

We were paying Mick Potter around 200g a year, that would be around half what most coaches would expect to earn to take on the gig and of course of the bigger names would want four times as much. Now throw in the cost of a GM of football operations, who you would think would have to be on similar dollars to the new coach, makes me think where are all these dollars coming from.

We look like sacking Mick Potter after paying him a pittance and giving him basically nothing in the budget and now it seems we are willing to pay more and one would imagine throw more money into the budget to turn the place around. Pity the fools who ran the circus did not give Mick a little more support.

Anyway with the new board being announced we can only hope today is the first day in the road to recovery

Not many on this forum seem to like rookie coaches. I wonder what the fans of the Storm, St. George, Cowboys, Easts, Parra, Warriors and Souths think?

Add to that Brisbane with Griffin

Col I have never thought of it like that

Well done

Probably only issue is playing cattle wise they are in a better place than the Tigers which helps a rookie coach

We just need the right rookie coach

The two best in my mind would be Kevie Walters or Jimmy Dymock if we didn't stick with Potter

I understand your logic 'col, but put it in perspective:
Storm have always had money and a top roster (thank News ltd)
St George are taking another risk (Nathan Brown & Steve Price)
Cowboys, another News ltd team but experienced and inexperienced coaches haven't got them the trophy even with a top roster
Easts?? Really?? Wow give me team of that quality. Yeah, Smith and Fittler couldn't do anything either. But wait - then comes SBW, Jennings & Maloney then bingo!
Parra - only the great Jack Gibson and his disciple John Monie could win them stuff. Always had money and a huge junior nursery
Warriors - woulda coulda shoulda every year
Souffs - money, money & connections hollywood style. What's the difference between the old Souffs and the new Souffs? Take a guess.

Col, I really understand where you are coming from but it's not just about rookie coaches.

I see you get a chance to talk to Mr Smith next week CQ

He is up in Rocky to talk to the possible new NRL franchise

I agree. I wonder though, how much was foolishness, and how much was someone operating to their own agenda?

Potter was doomed from day one because he was never a unanimous choice, so although in a slight minority the anti Potter ticket just did all in their power to disrupt his tenure, and did a very good job. A coach of a NRL team needs 100% support from all the stake holders and than some, Potter never had this in any shape or form.

I just hope he gets another crack at another club one day

Happy, you know my view on getting an NRL team up here. It will be just a lip service / PR stunt from Smith. Much like their Integrity Unit nothing will happen.
