Wests Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer is expected to table a recommendation that coach Mick Potter's contract not be renewed, at a meeting of the club's new board on Wednesday night.

Potter will address the board, comprising three independent directors appointed by the NRL last Friday and two representatives of Wests Magpies, but there appears little chance of him escaping the sack, despite a season plagued by injuries and internal turmoil.

New Tigers chairwoman Marina Go said the board would be guided by a recommendation from Mayer but it is unclear if a decision will be made at the board meeting.

The directors met on Sunday night but the coaching issue was not discussed as their first task was resolving constitutional matters after taking over from the previous 10-person board comprising five representatives each from Wests and Balmain.

It is understood that the board is yet to receive Mayer's recommendation and Go would not rule out the possibility of Potter surviving.

However, after commissioning a review of the club's football operations by long-serving former NRL coach Brian Smith, Mayer is expected to advise the board that a new coach should be appointed for next season.

Assistant coaches David Kidwell and Todd Payten have each been linked to the job but both are also off contract.

Other names linked to the job include Matt Parish, Jason Taylor and Anthony Griffin.

"Very clearly we need to make a decision soon and at this point I can't tell you which way it is going to go because we are absolutely open to both possibilities," Go told Sky Sports Radio.

"What we need to do is take individual opinions out of decision making and we need to move to a situation where decisions are based on evidence and I am assuming, because I have been hearing that certainly the management team have gathered evidence around the coaching decision and I am looking forward to hearing that, as is the entire board.

"It won't be one person's decision. It is … a recommendation that will come to us, we will interrogate that recommendation and then a decision will be made and will be made with respect and fairness."

And as for Taylor being only a goal kicker, what a load of crap,he very nearly took the bears to a couple of grand finals,he took parra from nowhere to the 2001 minor premiership, and almost won the grand final.
Taylor was always a very tactical player, not very fast but quick between the ears,he played 276 first grade games for god sake,he was way more than just a kicker.

All the noise coming out of Concord suggests Potter will be sacked… GO said today out of respect they are allowing Potter to present to the Board.... Well that's almost saying goodbye without saying so...If Potter was a smart man he would resign before he is sacked... Everyone seems to believe that Potter will not get a new contract except Potter himself... **He is either ignorant or arrogant or just plain stupid..**

Hes none of those.

People who assume they know whats best for others however are generally the latter…....just plain stupid.

**English saviour: St Helens coach Nathan Brown in line to coach Wests Tigers**

FORMER Dragons coach Nathan Brown has emerged as the latest candidate to coach Wests Tigers next season, should incumbent Mick Potter be sacked on Wednesday.
>
The club’s new board will discuss Potter’s future this week amid ongoing speculation he will fail to secure a new deal for next season.
>
Wests Tigers’ poor end-of-season form hasn’t helped Potter’s chances of being retained at Concord. It was talk of Potter’s demise mid-season that seemed to cripple the club’s charge towards the NRL finals.

Former Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin has been touted as a possible head coach, as has Sydney Roosters assistant Jason Taylor, who has also been a Parramatta Eels interim coach.
>
Club officials haven’t approached Brown or his manager George Mimis — yet.
>
But Brown has been discussed internally at Wests Tigers and he has plenty of support.
>
Chief executive Grant Mayer will make the final recommendation to his board on who should coach next season.
>
Brown is under contract at St Helens for next season but does have a get-out clause if successful in obtaining an NRL coaching job.
>
A former Saints hooker, Brown coached St George Illawarra between 2003 and 2008.

He had success, no doubt, but many felt he was too young to be appointed head coach, given he had retired from the club just two years earlier.

He was just 29 years old when appointed first grade coach.

Between 2009 and 2012, Brown coached Huddersfield in the English Super League before shifting to powerful St Helens.
Saints reached the finals last year and are running first this season with one round remaining before the finals.

In his first year at Huddersfield, Brown guided his side to the Challenge Cup final.

Now 41 years old, Brown has experience and is ready for a return to the NRL.

Brown has always been a man of integrity and wouldn’t pursue any job that was still taken by an existing coach.

This is more important to Brown at this point given he knows Potter personally, the pair both being
Should Potter be axed and the top job is vacant, Brown may then express an official interest.

With such a talented young roster, the Wests Tigers gig would be sought-after, despite this season’s misery.

Brown was linked to the then vacant Warriors job in April but never formally applied.

Mayer failed to return calls again on Tuesday. Mimis preferred not to comment.

Typical Telecrap. "Nathan Brown has emerged as another candidate…" "Club officials are yet to contact Brown or his manager...."

It'd be a no to Brown from me.

When Potter goes. Kidwell and Payten need to go with him. We need a coach from outside (preferably with NRL experience) who brings his own crew with him.

The bigger question is why did Fa'alogo feel the need to punch him? Bit of a tosser perhaps?

IIRC, I'm pretty sure Taylor Karate chopped him.

Apparently it stemmed from when Fa'alogo punched out Anasta. Taylor berated him after the game in front of the whole dressing room and Fa'alogo never forget it. Since he was leaving anyway, he was probably looking for any little excuse.

Kidwell has only been here for a year. Im not sure you can blame him for the events of the past 3 years.

Potter coached for peanuts, why should the new coaches be paid? Pay them peanuts and see how they performed. Monkeys, perhaps.

After some time thinking about Brown, I reckon he could be perfect. Being an Ex-Hooker and having 6 years NRL experience [with finals appearances on 4 occasions], I'm really liking the fit. He was rubbed out by Wayne Bennett and should have something to prove upon his return.

Get onto it Mayer… Sign this bloke!!!

So Brown hasn't applied and the club hasn't approached him

Yep Bulldog , he'll be front of the line ,won't he

Bulldog Ritchie is a tool and a tosser with a capital T

Fa'alogo is the lowest scum of the earth. He is the one who deliberately hit Fulton in the head that ended his career.

Yeah x2 , i'm with you on this one , he has served his apprentice and could bring success like Roosters Robinson did last year , but must say Robinson walked into a star studded over the Salary Cap Roosters side and made his job alot easier , a bit like when Stuart took over the Rooster's over Murray and won the Premiership.
Anyway i do feel Brown can come in and do a job with us , i know alot will say well what is the difference with Potter? unfortunately Potter is going to pay the price for the Circus that has occurred to him . I do feel for Potter though and i believe he won't get his chance again next year.

You all realise that it will be at least 2-3 weeks at the absolute earliest that we'll appoint a new coach, right? It's called due diligence and something one would assume a number of business savvy board members would be familiar with.

Yes it's most likely that Potter won't have his contract extended, but at least they're giving them a chance to put his case forward.

If he isn't re-signed we would then need to advertise the position (though preferably not on SEEK this time) and then allow time to receive the applications, cut them down to a top 3-4 and interview all those candidates. The chosen one will then most likely have a second interview just to confirm a few other details. That stuff all takes time. Remember the board members are also running their other companies, it's not like they'd be working all day every day on this, though Mayer would do the leg work and the board would do the interviews along with Mayer, and depending on how quickly they can appoint someone, a General Manager too.

It's the off season and so taking a month to appoint a new coach is perfectly reasonable. If it gets drawn out over several months then that's a bit rich.

I'm no Fa'alogo fan ,but Fulton was gone far before that hit

I'd say the collision with Teddy v the Saints Rd 1 might have been one

Even Fulton himself admits he hid this for a long time

Yeah your 100% correct , but the players don't come back for pre season till end of October so i'm sure that will be in place , there is no need to rush anyway . I know Tigers supporters suffer from anxiety  .
Anyway players are already signed for next year so it's not as if we need a Coach urgent so he can sign his players.

I reckon we will have an answer in regards to Potter by Monday fortnight at the absolute latest

New coach will be at least 3-4 weeks away if we need one I'd reckon
