Wests Tigers can now provide an update on the injury to Simon Dwyer.

Simon suffered a brachial plexus injury as a result of a heavy impact collision with Bulldogs forward Michael Hodgson at Campbelltown Sports Stadium last Friday night in round 16 of the Telstra Premiership.

The impact has caused significant nerve damage to this area between the right shoulder and neck.

The nature of this uncommon injury is that it will take some months to determine the full extent of the damage to the nerves and to assess the rate of repair to this damage.

At this stage, the medical advice is that Simon is not expected to return to the playing field this year.

Simon is under the care of a highly qualified medical team and is determined to follow the rehabilitation plan that has been put together for him.

Wests Tigers will continue to provide support to Simon in his rehabilitation.

that is no good, hopefully he is alright long term

best wishes Simon.
I agree, do not worry about footy.
does not matter how long the road to recovery is.
if a further diagnosis, means for Simon to be giving away playing footy then who cares.
he has the rest of his life to think about, and his health and well being are far more important than playing footy.

This is awful! Just reading about this injury makes my hair stand on end. I hope Simon is ok and makes a full recovery.

It doesn't sound good.

To add to this…. the doctor needs to be fired. Especially after all the other mishaps we have had. He should never have walked off, even if it was precautionary only.

Got his head in a very bad and awkward position going for an upper thigh tackle.

The hip joint of the opposing player contacted the neck/shoulder joining area and forced it against his own momentum.

That was my read on the situation

I wish him the best. Good to hear he sounds alright though.

I had nerve damage around my elbow - it took years to heal.

It could be permanent Hope it is not though Good luck with the recovery Simon Can the football gods [edited by mods] and pick on someone else for a while (Any team higher than us on the table would be nice)

Two injuries you basically never see in a competition happen to the same club in the same year. Pretty bad all around

Poor bugger :frowning: it really does not sound good & it sounding like it could be Tuiaki revisited again i pray not 😛ray:
& hope we see him in 2012

Has the club explained why he was allowed to walk off the fieild when blind freddy could see he could hardly walk?

Horrible news. Good luck Simon with the recovery and as everyone has said, forget about footy and get this better for the rest of your life.
