Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

This has been interesting watching the Latrell show but personally I think its a good thing we (The tigers) called him and his manager out and made the decision. As many have mentioned, his heart appeared not in it. I would prefer they chase the fox and Lomax as long term options.

Cool link @Ponyo maybe it's my limited technological prowess but I was impressed at how easy it was to listen to the interview, thanks mate.

Thanks Ponyo
The next article down was a good one as well
...................

Mitch Moses and Dylan Brown forged a blossoming partnership during the 2019 NRL season.

The pair helped the Eels to the second-week of finals footy for the first time since 2009, with both capping off a stellar year by representing Australia & New Zealand respectively at the World Cup Nines.

However, reports over the last week suggest the Brown could be on his way out of Parramatta already.

Speaking on Triple M’s The Rush Hour with MG, Moses has responded to the potential departure of his teammate.

Just quickly, everyone’s saying that if he stays at Roosters he’ll play reserve grade.

Is that even confirmed? Like I haven’t seen a quote or anything just a report via the media - and I don’t think Roosters will watch a player like Latrell play NSW cup when they’re contending for a premiership

I work with a guy in the mix at the Roosters. I asked him if Latrell was coming to the Tigers and he said if he doesn’t sign with someone, there’s only one option for him - reserve grade. From what I gathered he/his management have done something to really put the club offside. They certainly don’t want him there.

His manager seems hopeless.

Who else does he manage, ponga doesn’t he?

He has a huge stable of players: 5. Ponga, Mitchell, Tetevano, Hiroti and Ky Rodwell. So he basically makes a living leeching off Ponga and Mitchell.

This is interesting negotiation. I deal in large contracts and there is generally a meeting and follow up to ensure the offer is what is agreed. Once terms are know ie: amount per year, tenor of the deal I would never in a million years issue a contract unless we were meeting to sign it.

Giving out an offer document without an expiry for acceptance at a minimum gives the other party a bargaining chip.

Put simply whenever I issue a contract where the other party doesn’t sign I walk away immediately and retract it unless they will come in and sign it.
Rugby League is an odd game and these agents are like bad mortgage brokers taking a loan offer to 10 different banks to see who will get out the knee pads.

Sorry to be a pain, but are you able to maybe summarize the story here from the Chairman ??

First thing is he spoke (seemingly) straight and honest. Really rates LM, withdrew offer after negotiations stalled. Door is not closed, slightly ajar and he would welcome LM with open arms. Worth a listen if you get a chance. on ~3 minutes.

Thanks champion tigerbalm.

God I hope this isn't going to be 100+ pages of analysing what our chair person said re: withdrawing our offer and is the door open or closed. It's not hard to understand. WTs are in a position to persue other players now and if Latrell doesn't want to revisit the offer in time, we are officially out. We don't need to hyper-analyse every comment to look for something that doesn't exist. WTs need to maintain some dignity in this instance and I'm glad we are moving on.

T1 summary is
1) we need certainty and we weren’t getting that from LM camp
2) LM is a good kid and we can understand why there is uncertainty
3) if LM camp come back to the Tigers with certainty and we have cash to spend he will be very welcome.
4) very active player market if we have an offer on the table that cash cannot be used on other players = we can now look further into the player market.

Thanks champion Mighty_Tiger.

Yeah we’re better off not having someone like that on the books. I think he was Ponga’s manager, they might have parted ways though recently. Thought I read that somewhere..

Haha Wayde Rushton, i just took a look at his website. Seriously only has 5 players, seems weird? His profile says that he has a very “unique” approach to supporting and guiding high profile players...sounds like it’s very unique indeed.

I like the way the club is being run these days.

On the flip side i hate the way our fans in one breath say we need to be looking at other players in case Latrel doesnt sign but then cant understand that we cant offer them an official contract while that money is tied up in Latrel Mitchell.

We can negotiate with other players but other players at some point want it in writing. Something we cant do with 1.1million tied up in a "maybe" contract.

Ill back the club over the uninformed fan any day thanks.

Agree totally with this but seems that in the RL world offers are given out in good faith but with the knowledge that the recipient is only going to line it up in a table with other offers before accepting. Seems crazy doesn’t it.

I can’t see Souths as a contender, the Burgess money will be going towards Arrow I think, Cody Walker will also be getting an upgrade if he stays as he’s off contract, along with Cam Murray as of November 1 next year which he will probably be seeking a very large upgrade also....

I hope you're right mate. I reckon you definitely are right that they could afford only one of Arrow/Mitchell.

Before all this stuff went down with Latrell, I thought a few Broncos would go to Souths, following Bennett. I bet you Broncos are glad Fifita got into that trouble in Bali and they got to bail him out. Just might secure his longer term playing future that little favour.

Exactly

With all whats happened today I don't know why but I have a feeling LM will contact Tigers over the next few days to organise a contract.. I haven't been drinking either but just a feeling
I think some of his real friends might get in his ear and give him a reality check..

Maclean is a smart move big hard nosed prop who’s off contract at the end of 2020.

I think it's important to take from this that although Latrell is being portrayed in a negative way by some fans - this is not the position held by the club who regard him highly both on and off the field.

Wouldn't surprise me all that much if Mitchell's people contacted Pascoe sometime soon seeking further talks. Latrell's options, for season 2020 at least, look pretty limited at the moment. What we should do if this happens is another matter entirely.
