He might be becoming irrelevant, but he still somehow always gets exactly what he wants.

What's he had though? He took on Ivan's team after one season; most of the players Ivan signed were locked in 3-4 year deals.
Madge had no money and no time to spend it for 2019, signed Jennings.
He's got all his re-signings and junior signings worked out over a longer term, but his top-shelf money for 2020 only became available in the middle of November.
Hard to judge the bloke on about 6 weeks of being able to try recruiting with genuine cap space.

Just my opinion but releasing Marsters and Matterson without replacements lined up was unwise. Yep, we’ve got a load of cash but have been unsuccessful spending it. Imo we would have been better off hanging on to Marsters and Matterson until we got something in return.
Let me ask you this. If we make no additional signings of quality NRL players come round 1, will you be a bit disappointed with our recruitment strategy?

A player 10 x times better than LM in the ESL ....I can't even think of someone in the ESL who is even as good as LM

I don't understand this at all. What is negligent about trying to sign Latrell and then moving on ? That isn't negligence in any way shape or form.
Do you know something we don't ?

I can’t think of a back in ESL who is 10% as good as LM.

The numbers don’t add up. surely they would have to release two players outright while also taking into account arrows money for 2020.
I posted this elsewhere, but to answer your question:
FWIW their insider, similar to the Pom, says they can fit LM without releasing AJ or Gagai…
But…they are worried about their balance. Ie too many backs : they want to add a Pommy forward.
So, they need Gagai to GC or AJ to us to balance their squad.
How can they fit 1.8 million dollars worth of players in a million cap space? The maths doesn't work... Even with releasing someone and especially when considering paying almost half their contract
I call BS on this.
We've had enough speculation @ElleryHanley, let's allow this thread to die with some dignity.
Time to move on in 2020.
I don't think it is speculation to be honest.
LM is a superstar and it has all suddenly 'stopped'. That simply does not happen unless a deal has been done. Bennet's 'we don't need a center' line was a classic giveaway.
Anyway, should 'officially' be over soon...

Rugby League’s worst kept secret will be revealed very soon.
Latrell Mitchell has put pen to paper and has signed a 3 year contract at South Sydney.
I suspect someone will have to make way.
Dane Gagai is looking likely.

Yes it was slightly premature, he would've been perfect to use for a trade with Melbourne but what's done is done.
IDRC about Matterson as he was just another Moses to the club, and I'm glad to see the club show some dignity in the matter.
Momo and Mbye were great for us in the centres and I also believe Marsters leaving is better for he and Madge's relationship for the Kiwis.
I know everyone is underwhelmed right now but I'm excited to see if Talau will get a crack and also looking forward to how Aloiai, Mikaele and Garner will go this year.
IMO our playmakers(spine) make me a little anxious... Our hooker situation is more than worrying.

NO.
Madge and Co did what had to be done not much use keeping players who don't want to be here clear the rubbish cash up and see what eventuates I would say we'll have a similar season to 2019 hopefully finishing in the 8
We are cashed up and good players tend to come on the market unexpectantly we're tracking OK we'd all like a Porsche or Ferrari
In the garage but this doesn't always happen and we stick to the tried and true until something better comes along
