Contract still not signed off on yet & hasn't been approved by NRL, but what a gronk if these reports are correct. Risking his families future tells me he's just a selfish little boy. His purported upgrade next year (in Souths' favour apparently) is dependent on who they can shift to accommodate his highness - teammates who have been shopped around while on holiday & without their knowledge. Easts have been home for him since he was 16, they wanted to pay him $800,000 this year - instead he rinses them for $116,000 while he goes fishing - then agrees to a contract with the enemy, for $200,000 less then what Easts originally offered him, zero guarantees - you can't make this up. Latrell could have set his young family up for life and then moved to Souths later in his career. All it takes is 1 injury and he's yesterday's news, crazy.

And to think he went to market to make "more" money for his family...it doesn't add up

Maybe he is getting the money

Crowe probably got a fortune in cash stashed away for times just like these

If we do end up landing AJ, whilst he is certainly no bust your guts superstar, he is ahead of a few of our first graders. He will create competition for spots amongst our backs, and has the experience of playing finals football recently.
I can't see harm from him being in our squad at the right price. He would probably also come here with a chip on his shoulder and be looking to prove some things.

Bugger competition for spots, I'm sick of hearing it.

We have had plenty of competition for spots over the years because all of our players are ok, but not representative players.

I'd prefer having representative players cementing their position than have two mid range players battling it out.

who wouldn't prefer to have representative players???
technically speaking AJ is a rep player.....
But bottom line is he wouldn't make our team worse off

Shame about Latrell by not the first club trying to build
a strong squad to miss out. I remember RStuart when he went to Canberra throwing money at Tedesco Mansour and Procter and they all backflipped on him. If we put ourselves in a position to sign the best that is available at some point we will fill the gaps in our squad.

Take out the last 2 months of the Mitchell circus and the forum would be pretty chuffed with AJ. Great finisher. Him and Noffa would be a solid wing pairing.

Mbye was meant to be the fullback, Thomo filled in and then replaced Mbye at the role For the remainder of the season, how is someone saying he is an awful fullback NOT saying he didn’t fill the fullback role well?
Saying he is an awful fullback implies that he filled the role terribly.
IMO, he played well, added some X-Factor and showed his pure class as a footballer.
Yes I said he was a fill in, that is because he was, by all means, I’m not saying he should be our long term fullback, just saying that he filled the position when asked in a pretty decent fashion, now ppl want to compare him to other specialist fullbacks, and label him the worst fullback in the NRL, it’s Disrespectful, immature and just ridiculous.

Latrell Mitchell rejects South Sydney’s first offer, hopes to seal deal within days

He got the Hollywood treatment but not cash.

Latrell Mitchell rejected the Rabbitohs offer after an evening with Russell Crowe was not enough to convince the star centre to accept a cut-price deal to join South Sydney.

Mitchell took just over an hour to knock back the Rabbitohs’ first official offer after the club tabled a deal worth $1.4m over two years.

A one-year deal with a one-year option in his favour, the written offer fell “well-short” of what Mitchell had been expecting following a $1.2m a year bid from the Wests Tigers.

The knock back came less than 24-hour after Mitchell travelled to Coffs Harbour with his father Matt for a private dinner with Crowe.

Wined and dined by the Academy Award winner on the 400-acre estate in Nana Glen, Mitchell was highly impressed by both Crowe and his pitch.

It is understood Crowe, a South Sydney co-owner, spoke about the Rabbitohs’ proud history before telling Mitchell he wanted him to be part of the club’s future.

While no financial figures or terms were discussed, Mitchell was ready to become a Rabbitoh when he left.

The meeting with Crowe came just a day after Mitchell finally sat down with Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett to discuss football.

But in yet another twist, Mitchell’s manager Matt Rose rejected the Rabbitohs on Friday morning after the club made their official offer.

Mitchell conceded his future remained undecided after confirming his meeting with Crowe.

“It was fantastic to meet Russell Crowe, he is a generous host and very passionate about the Rabbitohs but the truth is I’m yet to decide my future,” Mitchell said.

“I’ve got a number of things to weigh up and I hope to be able to announce my new club in the coming days.’’

Mitchell remains hopeful of coming to terms with the Rabbitohs after Rose made a counteroffer to the club on Friday night.

Asides from coming up with a revised deal, the Rabbitohs may also have to compensate the Roosters with claims the club is demanding as much as $100,000 for a release.
Excused from pre-season training earlier this week, Mitchell declared his career with the Roosters was over.

“Nothing has been made official yet,’’ Mitchell wrote in an Instagram post.

“But my stay at the Roosters as come to an end. On to the next chapter wherever it might be.’’

“Russell Crowe is a generous host and very passionate about the Rabbitohs but the truth is I’m yet to decide my future”

“I want to thank the Sydney Roosters for everything they have done for me and my family,’’ Mitchell wrote.

“I cannot describe the way I feel write know but just wanted to let everyone involved with my career so far that I am grateful to you all.

“To the fans, thankyou. It wouldn’t be a game without you.’’

The South Sydney rejection has left the door ajar for the Tigers to make an 11th hour play.

False. He's a cast off for a reason and his career is on a downward trajectory. He's exactly the type of player I do not want us to sign at all. **May** arguably represent an incremental improvement over Thompson at fullback but will want to be paid as a fullback and then when we realise we need to make a genuine upgrade at fullback he'll end up a winger being paid like a fullback. Even as a winger he hasn't been near the conversation for NSW origin selection since 2015 - not elite. He also has no power to his game and creates very little for himself. Fine at Souths where similarly limited players like Merritt, Jennings and Everingham looked good for periods, not so good in a different team as Merritt, Jennings and Everingham showed...

No of course not. But I think in future Pascoe should get in our CFO and external accountants to meet with any potential recruits. They can put together a little powerpoint presentation outlining our financial health and year on year projections. If Latrell was aware of our working capital situation and EBITDA forecast for the FY20 financial year I feel he would have signed.

What a load of crap ...lmao
Power point presentation lol
Most NRL players couldn’t even tie there own shoes never mind sitting through some garbage PowerPoint presentation lol

Mitchell didn’t come here cause we’re an perennial basket case and the coach is too much of a hard arse !

Hook line and sinker falling for that @avocadoontoast post hobbo and surprised your aren't wet as sarcasm was dripping from his efforts.

No sarcasm .. that’s the sort of crap he posts ..

Won’t see the best of madge until reynolds packer and Mbye are all off the books. Some real hinderance for him there. He has that little faith in reynolds he brought Old man Benji back.

I just don’t understand how having Reynolds,Packer & Mbye on our books would deterred a player from accepting ONE MILLION DOLLARS PER ANNUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness, he rejected Souths offer? He wants more money from them?? He does understand that they offered him every cent and every bonus deal they possibly could, I am sure, within and outside of the cap.

Maybe he wants a movie deal, hoping Russel could hook him up?

Your last comment sounded like you were saying that any out of position player (fill in) is destined to be awful.
Thompson is generally a winger, and a reliable one, in time he very well could be a reliable fullback.
A player like Latrell could add a lot more, but Thompson wasn’t bad at fullback, again, it’s just my opinion.
Moving on, Latrell rejects souths offer, what’s your thoughts on this?

Take into account, too many advisors and suddenly it all adds up. 'Listen mate the roosters are short changing you, you're worth more than that etc etc.
Same advisors, 'Nah mate don't go to the Tigers have you heard what Matto said?'
Bottom line is, he's a young, easily lead bloke and maybe not the swiftest.

Ouch. That has to hurt Rusty. Now this is getting interesting. Being publicly rejected by LM may not go down well after the wining and dining. Has Bazza any Grange to spare?

He was a fill in

And that is in your own words and I don't recall anyone here saying that he doesn't fill that role well, nor give his all to it. Surely all supporters don't want a fill in playing at the back, unless of course he is doing just that, filling in.

Yes he is a fill in! Going into a season with 50% of your spine players being fill ins shows poor planning and is a recipe for a wooden spoon!

That’s irrelevant to what I initially said.

As you have said he is a fill in at fullback, that means he is not a good fullback, if he was a good fullback than he wouldn't be a fill in he would just be a fullback!

Your logic is laughable.

It is terrible that we are heading into the season with Thompson as our fullback is all that I am saying! It was an area we needed to improve, we had the money and we still have Thompson playing there who will try is best but is at his ceiling in the position!

I’m not denying the fact that a specialist fullback or A high Potential talent is needed for the position, all I’m saying is that Corey Thompson wasn’t an awful fullback.

I actually love having Thompson in our squad and he is a reliable and extremely hard working who has got the most out of his skills, I just think we needed to do better this off season with the money we have!
