Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

Hey guys I’m a long time observer of this forum and first time poster and want to know why someones always looking for the negatives in this situation. You have a direct quote from someone In latrells management team saying they are due to meet with us and discuss the offer. Fair enough the cowboys could release some players but there is no way they could offer a) more money than us and b) the fullback position latrell craves. A lot of the stuff on here just looks like gossip to keep the thread going, can’t it wait till there’s actually real development in the story

Can’t wait for when it’s official that Latrell signs with us and everyone saying he was never coming cause we’re a basket case goes hiding

Don’t count it. It will then be it took so long, that he only came here cos he had no other options.

Pretty much how it'll go

Some people on this forum really are desperate and gullible. How could the Cowboys possibly pull off signing both Holmes and Latrell on $1m contracts when they already have Taumalolo and Morgan on that much. $4m on 4 players? That leaves around $200,000 as an average salary for their remaining 26 players. Also, how could the Mitchell camp not be impressed with the Tigers offer when his player manager has said that they will be meeting with the Tigers in the following week? It really doesn't add up at all and it's media innuendo. The fact that people believe Big Sports Brekky reporting that the Cowboys have signed both Latrell and Holmes while the Tigers miss out is hilarious considering they were the same ones who reported that the Tigers had officially signed Mitchell 2 weeks ago. They're plain guessing

Didn't Mitchell's agent acknowledge that they'd received our offer and were going to discuss it with us. I'd expect we've left ourselves a little wiggle room to fine tune our offer a bit if we need to.

@Newtown was a joke. I can imagine them getting rid of a player like Granville and then saying he was on a ridiculous amount to try fitting them both in.

@avocadoontoast Other clubs have done it and got away with.

You mean the habitual offenders the roosters, who have made an art of pulling this off, whilst the NRL keep signing off on it

From Reading The Play on Twitter:

“Plenty of noise around that a) Tigers offer to Mitchell is not where the Mitchell camp would like it to be and b) Cowboys have made a very strong play...

All likely gets sorted over next few days one way or another.”

I'm tired of this already. We should just give up and move on. Withdraw the offer and plan for 2021. I'd cop another 9th if that means we spend up even bigger the following season.

He doesn't want to come here. Let's get people who do.

Sigh

Depressed?

After your post, yes ?

Honestly the way thr club has gone about our recruiting lately is great. Latrells manager ia obviously tryjng to play cowboys and us off against each other. I figure we offered 3.8 mil for 4 years at fullback and Cowboys have offered 700k to play centre. He would prefer Townsville tl live. He is a talent but like alot of people have said hes a great centre and a fair way from being a great fullback.

I hope Tigers stick to their guns and offer only what we have. If his managet tries to get us to go to 1.1 mill or higher then say no. Move on and wait. Their will be other opportunities.

If Latrell goes to the Cowboys id put an offer to Scott Drinkwater straight away. Alot of ipside and would only cost 400k. Then go after Lomax and a forward like Jai Arrow.

@SeanT - agree fully, but as long as this silent period of negotiations is happening does not inhibit WT from looking at other opportune buys on the player market (for NRL squad, not lower grades) and making offers.

Much as I'd love to see Mitchell join us, and if this isn't sorted out one way or the other within the next week or so, we should at least consider imposing a reasonable deadline on our offer. Whilst this may possibly prompt Mitchell to walk away from WT, if we just let things drag on hoping he will sign on at some stage, we risk being used by Team Mitchell as just a fallback option to other teams he may be hoping to get late offers from. Not a good image.

The Broncos met with Brodie Croft SIX weeks ago...

The deal got done this weekend.

These things take time.

So far it has been two weeks, which is nothing.

Everyone’s getting their knickers in a knot waiting for an announcement when it’s been reported numerous times something will be announced in the next week or two.

@Curaeus why rush it though? Damn I am happy to sign him in March!!

That's fine if you sign him, but not so fine if you don't and have $850K of cap space and nothing decent to spend it on.

@TJ21 because Latrell has played centre and his fitness needs to improve dramatically. If he signs without a preseason training at fullback then he will struggle for the first 2-3 months. Going from centre to fullback is a big task especially for a player who mentally goes in and out of games.

No we need an answer before the Christmas break.

He played for Australia.

Regardless of who he signs for, he and the other international players are not due back until Jan 9.

He played almost two months longer than our players, his fitness will be fine...
