Would be quite interesting if he went to Souths.

We went for Bennett, went to Souths. We went for Arrow, went to Souths. Went for LM, went to Souths. I wonder who we’ll be going after next that will sign with Souths. JAC?

@avocadoontoast you sound jaded mate.

LM hasn't signed with the Bunnies and no one knows JAC's future team.

I don’t understand how releasing gagai would free up money for Mitchell if they’re signing arrow for an amount worth more than gagai’s original contract especially if you consider the fact that the titans will want the bunnies to pay a percentage of the rumoured 700k before they would even consider signing him for that much. The numbers don’t add up. surely they would have to release two players outright while also taking into account arrows money for 2020.

I posted this elsewhere, but to answer your question:

FWIW their insider, similar to the Pom, says they can fit LM without releasing AJ or Gagai…

But…they are worried about their balance. Ie too many backs : they want to add a Pommy forward.

So, they need Gagai to GC or AJ to us to balance their squad.

How can they fit 1.8 million dollars worth of players in a million cap space? The maths doesn't work... Even with releasing someone and especially when considering paying almost half their contract

I call BS on this.

We've had enough speculation @ElleryHanley, let's allow this thread to die with some dignity.

Time to move on in 2020.

I don't think it is speculation to be honest.

LM is a superstar and it has all suddenly 'stopped'. That simply does not happen unless a deal has been done. Bennet's 'we don't need a center' line was a classic giveaway.

Anyway, should 'officially' be over soon...

Rugby League’s worst kept secret will be revealed very soon.

Latrell Mitchell has put pen to paper and has signed a 3 year contract at South Sydney.

I suspect someone will have to make way.
Dane Gagai is looking likely.

I'll believe it when I hear it from LM's and Bennet's mouth.

I honestly think Bennet's 'we don't need a center' confirmed it. If you know anything about Bennett you would know that comment was deliberate.

??

Bennett is looking more like a knob every year if this turns out how we all expect it to. Sure we got the happy with his centres line but he also said we "won't be signing Latrell." - more than likely after it was already done. I get the disdain for the media but out and out lying makes him a mockery.

Didn't Rothfield tell someone who enquired from this forum that Mitchel would be signed within a few days of the enuquiry?

Its to shield his club from media attention while they negotiate big contracts. It’s smart.

Yep most likely, cagey bugger says they don’t need a centre, but what about a fullback! Since Latrell wanted to play fullback I’m guessing that’s where they will play him. So Bennett isn’t really lying when he says they don’t need a centre ?

I must admit though I will be pretty pissed if he does end up going to Souths for less money to play centre after we offered him everything that he supposedly wanted, position and money wise.

We will probably end up with Johnston if this all falls into place as reported. Second best for us yet again, but on the positive side I guess he is at least a reasonable fullback option with some pace

Don't see Bennett as clever - not fooling any one - and the lines between what is fact and fiction are so blurred, soon no one will listen to him. Once that happens he becomes irrelevant.

Wow. Another ham and egger with inside info has thrown his hat into the ring.

Actually, he is a journalist for the DT.

Not that that makes him any better, but he is not hidden etc / clear who he is / replies and contactable.

The Oracle? Doesnt he own a sports store in Balmain?

Didn't our Chairman indicate that we would sign Mitchell in one of his articles ? If so agree not a good look.

No but he indicated he was very keen to see him at the Tigers, or something to that effect. With Mitchell likely going to Souths it looks like we’ll just be upgrading some people to top 30 contracts before the season begins. A very disappointing offseason recruitment wise.

Depends how you interpret it. But he came out in one article saying how he and uncle Nick were in cahoots to get him here.

They ARE in cahoots, but where’s our loot?

I thought Roosters wouldn’t release him to Souths? Or this for 2021? Can’t see Roosters letting him chew up cap space if he’s out the door. What a mess. Personally, I’ll go with Maguires judgement around Johnstone etc. but don’t see the need to just buy someone because they’re available.
