After a tough loss to the minor-premiership winning Raiders yesterday in the nation’s capital, you’d have forgiven the Tigers players for wanting to escape the celebrations in GIO stadium. Luckily for one young Tigers fan, the complete opposite was true.
As young gun Latu Fainu climbed into the opposition end to thank the fans who’d made the trip, he noticed a 12 year old boy with a sign about how he’s had his current jersey for so long, and would love a new one.
Latu, seeing a chance to make the kid’s day, took of his jersey and handed it to the kid, who by this point was visibly emotional. The surrounding fans started cheering ‘LATU, LATU’, and the pain of the loss became distant in the memory.
When a player has a negative interaction with someone in the crowd, a-la-Jai Arrow earlier this season, it’s the top story on NRL360 for a week. They talk about lack of decency, and lack of respect. But the other side of the coin - a story like this - goes tellingly unreported by traditional media. Now I wonder why that might be?
Well done Latu - you’ve just become a Wests Tigers fan favourite.
