Latu Fainu #282

Doesn’t look like he had shoulder reco surgery after all despite what Richo said some 6 weeks ago.. he’s back in the training video today and nothing wrapped on either shoulder?
Depending on the nature of the surgery and individual comfort, after certain range restriction time frames, it's not uncommon.

Latu didn't have a full structural reco from what I could see, so it may have been a more minor arthro.

Recovery time on those vary widely from under a month in some minor cases to up to 6 months in others.

Contact will probably be avoided for a fair while regardless, but the training images are pretty encouraging so far for things having gone well.

I was always suspicious that Latu would get a lot more of the pre season than people were suspecting.

Shoulders can vary a lot in terms of severity and recovery time.

If he’s on the field training now, surely in 4 months time he should be ready to play I would have thought.
Jahream had the same surgery around R21 last year and didn’t get on the field til R2. if Latu’s on a similar return to play protocol and he got his surgery after R27 then we might not see him til R8.

not saying that’ll be the case, but just something to be mindful of.

Just saw him on 9 news.
Said he was about to give up on rugby league until benji talked him out of it.
He was a bit emotional about how much benji has helped him and how much he owes the tigers. How he treats every game as his last.

Worth a watch

He’s only 20 and has a lot of time to cement himself if he keeps building FG habits, we are fortunate that AD and Jock can relieve some of the pressure he would feel to perform immediately

Hopefully Latu will get over his constant injuries in time like his mentor Benji did.
Bit different. I maintain most of Benji’s issues were due to his tackling technique. He’d throw his arms back behind him, leaving his shoulders exposed. Once he changed his technique, he stopped getting injured. Latu on the other hand at this stage has a body that’s too brittle. It happens to some players. I’m not sure how he overcomes it.

He's been injured by going in too hard. He's ultra competitive without the physical maturity. He'll be right.

Agree with this, but my only concern is whether his desire to play constant first grade may overtake where WT see his progress- either then he will look for greener pastures or WT play him more in NRL and he gets injured yet again and maybe WT thinks this is ridiculous and looks to release him. The waiting game can be perilous buy i agree with the need to hold him back a bit with a mix of State Cup / KOE (whatever its called) and the interchange bench.
