Latu Fainu #282

Hardly. Its not sick leave, its not excessive leave. Its workers compensation due to high risk work employment . Perfectly acceptable and hard to understand why some question even having him at the club as a result. We let this guy and we will regret it badly.
I work in the legal field.in compensation, I k ow what that is
at present given latus frequent and extended injury history it is not a good return on Investment
time will tell...

would prefer the club throw the sink at katoa if we could

Capt'n Obvious to the Rescue!

Why Latu Fainu, after getting 500k per year to essentally be in reserve grade, heal while injured and play an occasional first grade game gets a sweet deal. Capt'n Obvious says Latu should then Stick by the club that stuck by him, showering us with NRL Glory that hasn't been seen since Andrew Johns won a premiereship for Newcastle.

Millenials are loyal employees right?
Hes been available for about 2/3 of games the last 18 months. Not great, not awful, but pretty common for a body that is still developing being put under the stress of first grade to miss plenty of games.
In that time we've added to the stress on that body by playing him through the middle the overwhelming majority of the time rather than reduce the physical toll by having him defend in the halfback spot. So it could be argued we've stuffed up his physical development.

We also haven't given him an opportunity to play any extended time in the halves. He hasn't been given any game time to develop the nuance of halfback play or game management. I'd like to think he is training there to develop his game but any match simulations/rehearsed plays at training he would also need to train the position he is actually playing, so possibly not or likely at best limited. So it could be argued we've stuffed up his NRL development.

But he should stay with the club because we paid slightly more than others were offering on his last contract and he has had a few injuries?
I'm a little surprised he isn't asking for a release from his current deal.

The last time Manese played rugby league Covid wasn’t even a thing yet, and everybody thought Nathan Cleary was coming to the Tigers.

I’d be more concerned if he can even compete at State Cup level at this stage
Not sure about this. He was a real sensation when he came into grade. If he’s been keeping fit you don’t forget how to play footy, it’s not complicated.

A poor ROI is an entirely different discussion. Players get injured playing Rugby League, rehabilitation of injury on the job should be provided by the employer like anyone else. Bennett wasn't wrong when he said humans weren't designed to play it.

If we had the roster when he was here that we do now without crucial injuries he would show that form, we didn't and he struggled, you're not taking into consideration how good the other teams were/are.

As usual any excuse to lay the boot into the so-called team you support.
Ipap wasn't awful when he was here. His heart was never in it though. He only came for Madge and was unhappy to arrive without him here. Last year he was average for Penrith, this year he's back to his best. Took them a year to rehabilitate his Tiger habits.

I thought towards the end of his contract with us when he switched to lock he was playing well, but that was after it was known he was on the move.

Lot of discussion did we use him correctly, for me we just didn't have enough quality players around him.

Served his purpose in the early stages of the rebuild. Guys like him, Bateman and Klem were important in getting us out of the basement.

Really?
I’ve seen professional footballlers
forget to play footy after a bye!!
certainly moreso over an off season!!

Better teams than ours who were good last year, can’t keep up with the changes the game has made over the off season.
How you figuring a bloke keeps up after half a decade or more out of the game, most of that in prison.

He doesn’t even have a life back yet,
and half the game is selling him hope of an NRL career..

Give him all the time and hope in the world - but be a little realistic, please.

Played a bit of Lock for Parra that first year as well…
Think his second season for the. is remembered better than he was. He switched sides and wasn’t as effective.

You’re mixing teams and players up.

He played in a skill position probably his whole childhood, he’ll remember how to play.

The question mark is fitness. Personally I don’t know what else I’d do in the lock up other than train.

That’s the thing - you do what they tell you to do. Mostly it’s work, PD or wait. They’re certainly not in the gym or running laps of the yard 24/7

Edit - and I wasn’t mixing up teams / players.
Plenty of players have lost it after a bit while doing it, probably many more than have found it after not doing it.

Get him on at #7 this week.

Play Hope & Lanyon at #9, but put the best attacking players on the field in positions they can influence the game.

Latu is a passing robot at #9 and not the right fit.

At worst- play him at #13. But get the ball in his hands.
