Hi guys,

Heard it tonight, from my mate who i saw tonight at the game.

His old man was speaking with Lawrence during the week at an event.

He questioned Lawrence's health? And he stated that he has played injured all year. He also needs a minor knee op at the end of the year, he also can't get proper acceleration or speed due to this.

It sort of explains a lot.

yeah it tells me he is a tough bugger , but it also tells me we should be getting the surgery done NOW and have him 100 percent fit for the off season and beyond

Chris is just kidding himself if he thinks that it is only the knee issue causing his speed issues

I'm going to beb extremely interested to see how Widdop returns next season from his injury

He's tough, no doubt about that. Not sure if he still has his left shoulder heavily strapped, but that was a major impediment to his defence last year and earlier this year.

Some of the vision of Lawrence in pre-season training looked promising, as in he looked to be a lot faster than last year. But if he's playing with injuries which require surgery, he should just get it done and get himself right.

I thought he was solid last night but his top end pace just isn't what it used to be. I still think he should try and drop 3-4 kg next off-season and focus more on speed.

I don't believe many of Lawrence's misses in defence are entirely his fault. People need to remember he's had a lot of youth or poor defenders outside him. Koroibete can have some terrible reads and force Lawrence in. I remember two tries scored against us earlier in the year and everyone blew up that it was Lawrence. It was actually Moltzen who pushed in tight and didn't move with his man and it forced Lawrence to cover two men so he rushed up to try and shut the play down and couldn't. Thompson and Blair have missed a few this year too which hasn't helped. Fulton is a top defender on the edge, but we really miss Ellis this year.

I think we're seeing an improvement in Chris because he's got Simona outside him now who's had plenty of practice defending in the centres and has transitioned to the wing well. Lawrence is getting some space and starting to break the line again which is great to see, there really aren't too many more powerful centres in the game, and the Hurrell/Lawrence battle was great to watch on Friday.

I made it public on the forum that I had spoken with Chris earlier in the year and he had told me he had been having massive issues with his hammies and It was restricting his speed. He also mentioned it has NOTHING to do with his hip. So people can stop banging that drum.

I hope Reddy is back in centres this week. Manly last time we played them said Lawrence was their target because He can't jump for a bomb and in defence is prone to come in and leave his winger posted with an overlap.

His a tip Robbie two weeks in a row you kicked a bomb for Lawrence to catch that he missed and resulted in length of the field tries…let try the other side this week.

Lawrence lost his main asset - speed, unfortunately he never had footwork or do 'GI' or "Tuiaki" to bulldoze through the line. We have much better option ATM - Simona.

Go Tigers

I don't think he's career is over like some of you suggested he isn't as quick as he was and will probably never be, but what he does have to do is make smarter decisions in defence and attack to allow for that loss of speed.
If he can't do this a career in the back row beckons, which will probably happen in time anyway.

The decision making is the worry though Doc.

It is almost like he has not accepted his loss of speed and maneuverability and wants to defend like he did a few seasons ago with some effect.

Hopefully he stops doing that

He is all class. Sure he is slower but his stats are pretty amazing for Friday… Up to 100m, he scored a great tough running line, defence was pretty solid, he was very close to a line break on numerous occasions, adds class out wide(great quick ball couple weeks ago).

We need him, he will just improve and improve. I'm sure he will be brooks go to man to score with that line he runs and the power and will to score he has.

He sure has lost speed but he sure isn't the slowest centre, he adds size and a no fear style of footy I love. Our best centre and you're kidding yourself If you think otherwise.

Lawrence and Simona in the centres next season please.

Feel its worth showing this pic after last Fridays game, I would never doubt his effort of toughness:

Why is Simona never able to catch the player who makes a break on his side is what I'm wondering at the moment. He wasn't able to catch the Sharks fb who made a break the previous week as well as the Warriors player and Johnson

Johnson is phenomenally fast, he is one if the quickest in the league, can't really speak for the sharks game.

While I don't mind him in attack his defence is quite suspect. Just last friday he resulted in 3 or so tries being scored. standing by while that kick went sky high, knocked another high ball straight to johnson, poor defence positioning led to a massive hole open up. That was the warriors 1st try. Also, when the second rower, mannering outpaced lawrence for the ball last warriors try.

His defence is alright, some times some bad reads. He is poor with the high ball, has been for a while now. Simona needs to take charge with most of the grabs.

To be fair that attacking kick by robbie was pretty terrible. He runs the best lines and he decides to kick to him? Even if we run on last tackle is probably better than kicking to Lawrence.

For me it wasn't the mannering chase..it was the Simona kick and chase..when Simona kicked infield for Chris..and he couldn't get anywhere close..watch the replay and you will clearly see what I mean..think we will find that Chris realises his problem and retires at the end of the season.

I though that Lawrence has show some good improvement recently, each week I think he's been a little better, even his defensive reads are better.

I watched the replay, I don't think Simona kicked for Lawrence, he was about 7 metres behind. big ask to pick up 7 metres when Simona was only 25 out.

That's one ugly foot. Also explains why his speed isn't what it used to be. There's no way he'd be able to run to his potential with his foot looking like that.
