That run won us the game, I thought he may have been winded?

Turns out he was winded

Yeah heard his sister say that on triple m this afternoon! It's a horrible feeling when it happens.

Still think he is a long way off.

Doubt it .... that’s about as good as he gets these days. ...

@Madge
It all comes back to his hip injury..... his foot doesn’t come within coo-ee of the ball.

It’s true. People who have used him as their punching bag over the years forget that. Either out of convienicnce or ignorance. Sky was the limit pre injury. He could hit a hole as good as anyone that’s ever played the game. Sadly, a big part of him as a footballer died that night. And what’s most sad about it is that the injury happened in the last 2 minutes when the game was already won. A total waste.

It's complete BS that he cant touch the ball with his foot. In saying that, I've never really taken notice of his play the balls. I think if he was asked, then he'd laugh. He was awful as a centre for years after the injury and I wanted him gone. Not because I didn't like the guy, but he simply wasn't any good in that position and that's where he stayed. Since his move to the forwards, he's been terrific. But suggesting that his movement is that limited is crazy. If he touches it once, the theory is blown out of the water.

Great story on 9 News how Rowdy was used as a crash test dummy at training to mentally prepare him to get back on the field...time and time again he would run into the defensive wall and our blokes didn't hold back ..he'd get knocked down ..then he'd get back up and do it again and again and again...

Club Legend..sign him up..

He copped an unrelenting and undeserved barrage on here. He was criticised for his contract, a contract he signed when he was one of the best centres in the game. His contract value wasn't unreasonable at the time of signing and he was injured horribly while representing our club, the club many of his critics professed to love. He then restructure his deal and took a massive pay cut and people still bashed him. He has given our club so much I'm happy for him to decide when he has had enough and I'm happy for him to have a place in our squad until that time. It's not like he costs us any of our limited salary cap!

And I don't even think he was playing that badly after his injury anyway. Obviously he played centre for Australia after the injury, even if injuries to Lyons and Hodges opened the door for him. But he played for the Kangaroos and you can't take that from him.

I think the negative press had a lot to do with people having seen his best; when he could no longer regularly achieve that best, even though his normal was still good, people always measured it against his best. They remembered length-of-field tries and blitzing opposition on the outside, and that seemed to be the yardstick.

It's like since Tedesco left, every fullback we pick is measured against Tedesco.

I know people are going to say "his hands" and "his defence wasn't up to it", and I agree at times back then he was getting found out in defence, perhaps because he was now short a yard of pace and hadn't adjusted. I recall it lasted ~1-2 seasons, then he went back to being a defensive stalwart, esp after he transitioned to the backrow - where everyone agreed he was ultimately destined anyway.

@innsaneink 100% agree mate, he has never let us down in anyway. He may drop the odd ball, but what he has given this club can never be denied. The only highlight of the Raiders game was the sound from the crowd when he made his return. He may still have some knockers on here, but he is absolutely loved by the general fan base!

Got to be honest I was surprised by that reception, at the game. I know Rowdy had a serious injury but he'd only missed ~12 weeks of football, it's not as if he'd done a Wade Graham.

So he must certainly be popular indeed. Esp given the state of the match, to receive such a huge response.

Absolutely. Two major injuries that would have seen most retire and while his form on return from his face injury is still yet to be seen he reinvented himself from his hip injury and still offered value to the team.

He is the only long serving veteran we have, give him the long service allowance even if he doesn't figure in Madge's first team plans going forward as he costs us nothing in real terms to hang on to as the LSA is wasted otherwise. He's given a lot and copped a lot for this club and been nothing but a professional the whole way through. I honestly believe the club needs to look after him after what he's done for us, especially restructuring his deal to get us out of the proverbial with the cap.

He's at the top of the list re: club legend status - ahead of Skando, Benji Robbie etc

I'm inclined to agree Ink.

On a par with Skando and Hodgo for mine...

lol he can't play the ball properly be cause of his hip injury..397 other NRL players on a weekly basis must have the same injury

Geez that's going a bit far. Take nothing away from the guy and all respect for Lawrence. He has had a tough run and his story and career longevity ensures his being revered as a tiger legend, stalwart and excellent club man amongst other things; but he is nowhere near the status of Benji or Robbie.
Benji and Robbie played for us for longer, were great players, rep players, won us a GF, and will go down in Tiger folklore not only as icons of this club but of Rugby League.

Rowdy was damn quick and had serious potential in his first 5 years, and it was so sad how injury ruined his career.
That was nearly 10 years ago. I'm happy he has been with us, but maybe that's for sentimental reasons only.

Does he have a contract here post 2019?
