Leichhardt Council seeks Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence

I think that Balmain are the architects of their own demise but I really hope that they can keep going as part of the JV. Even if the Council had given approval, NSW State Planning would have vetoed any of the proposals put up so far. I think the developers know what's required but they probably can't see it turning a buck so they keep putting in non compliant plans, more in hope than expectation. Anyway, that's just a view from the outside looking in.

The are probably not in any hurry. Didn't they only pay $1 for the property through some backdoor (benny) deal?

I thought we already had a Centre Of Excellence at Leichhardt….....the dungeon dunny behind the uprights.
Little Johnny Howard threw hatfuls of money into upgrading Kogarah, maybe if we send Malcolm Turnbull a Members lanyard and sticker he would do WT the same service.

Darcy must have needed to get his name in print again.
He comes out with all this talk about helping the Tigers every few months but nothing ever eventuates - bar naming the lane behind the ground after Laurie Nichols and the hill after Junior (which cost the council about $5).
Do something 'real' if you want to help, Darcy.

Liverpool's out.

I just love Leichhardt Council, basically sent Balmain to the wall with a little help from within the club, now they want to get a handout to build our centre of excellence. Of course this would mean their asset is more valuable and I guess our rent would go up,its a win win and the tax payer will be fronting the bill.

If I was Pascoe I would be telling Leichhardt council to stick their ground full stop and let them find another sporting organisation willing to pay them rent

Well thats disappointing…
There is still the LO centre of excellence proposal, though as many suggest, I dont knpow where theyll fit it.
Should that fall thru, and Westconnex conmtinues to grow and we find ourselves with nowhere else...I guess that means ''Hello Homebush"

There's always that red headed step son sometimes referred to as Ctown.

Looks like they'll end up in Homebush.

I don't get your reference to a red headed step son

I don't think fitting it in is so much the problem. There's already the aquatic centre across the road that could be incorporated into it. As well as all the space at Leichhardt Oval 2.
I still can't see it happening though. Just seems like a nightmare in a logistical sense. It'd be far better to have it in the South West where it would be more welcome.
Leichhardt Council have already proved to be horrendous to work with.

Theres no way theyd be able to use No. 2…the greenies would have hissy fits
Thats what I mean, the pools already there which is great, but nowhere else to put the thing

Where in Cambo could they put it?

The whole area behind the stadium where the tennis courts and running track are.

There's probably some sense in having our admin, training facilities and playing venue all at Homebush. Could balmain and wests join forces in a league club there aswell. A club out there was proposed years ago.
It might actually feel like we have home.

Homebush is already being turned into a NSWRL centre of excellence isn't it?

Is Leichhardt Oval 2 used for anything apart from away team warm ups?

Its a great idea but with Balmain up to their eyeballs in debt I don't think this would ever happen. I also think if a club ever was sanctioned there Canterbury or Souths would have first dibs.

Even though they are in debt they would still have licenses for the pokies that can be moved to a new location. Surely it would be an attractive proposition for wests to fund? Wests put the money in and Balmain put the pokies in. Maybe not?
I guess it would mean Balmain giving up on the Rozelle development and therefore the area.

All I know we need to get the hell out of Concord…you can only re-arrange the gym so many times...Homebush makes perfect sense to me... facilities already in place ...if it was good enough for Olympians....

Keep exploring the options in the South West sure but get into the 21st century now..

On the land around the university. Could try to tie in with facilities there

Good old Darcy at it again i see. Grub.

why is he a grub?

If you had followed what Darcy and the rest of his council have done over the redevelopment of the old tigers club then you would call him a grub also.
