Leichhardt oval's end

I was told ages ago by someone thats in the know that the eighth wonder would be demolished at the end of the 2023 season.
the land is state govt owned and the money from the sale would be put to better use providing better health faciliteies for the people of greater sydney.
so look at it this way balmain tigers fans youre losing a run down footie ground but you will be providing better health care for yourselves in return and you will find your new balmain leagues club will be up and running in no time at all at all.
a minority of one eyed balmain tigers fans will say this is disgraceful, but the more reasonable thoughtful and understanding balmain tigers fans will quickly realize the medical facilities provided in lieu of a crappy football ground will provide a lot more than you realise today.
plus we will get to play most of our home games at only two grounds the new sydney football stadium and campbelltown.
Yeah nah. Leichhardt may not be up to standard to host nrl games anymore, but it still hosts a lot of community sport, more than many other nrl grounds in fact. The chances of it being knocked down and converted to 'health faciliteies' (sic) is zilch.

Now don't let that ruin a great story though lol

This will definitely not be happening. Someone has made this up.

When you heard Beau Ryan talk the other day about Benji and the tigers, he was speaking about how “not even the Australian team could beat us at LO” I know it probably isn’t popular with a lot of people but that ground is the heart and soul of the club to the players and a lot of the fans. Beau went on to talk about how he thought that Benjis plan to rebuild the club was turning into a family club again and being members of the Balmain / five dock community again which he felt was lost in the years since he left.

Threatening to no longer play games there is the wrong tact. Better way would be we are commuting to this ground long term. We hope the state government makes it a safe venue for the tens of thousands of people who use this venue regularly. the fence collapsing shows how quickly the state government could be on the end of public liability lawsuit if it isn’t kept up to a high standard.

I don't want to rake the coals of Wests and Balmain over again but if Leichardt is no longer an option it's the last vestige of the team I supported for 31 years gone. I think I would give it away entirely if it happens - death-spiralling club and total history wiped (for my personal part). I just wouldn't have an emotional attachment to it anymore.

correct, this is the reason Ribot's megalomania "we will play NRL in Hong Kong, and London" failed, he totally disregarded the people attachment, and history of the team!
E.g. N Sydney Bears!

To me this whole situation of suburban grounds and/or shared grounds / stadiums has become farcical and it is directly at the door of the NRL. Shifting requirements, favoured clubs, political pork barrelling with little to no directed planning and sticking to the plan.

Recall:
  • Suburban grounds to fall by the wayside and fewer shared stadiums to meet increased standards and provide better facilities and transport access to be shared around- still without NRL direction as to probable locations and who shares what grounds.
  • Started with Parra Stadium followed by SFS, however any prospect of it being happily shared was negated by the wilful and self interested grab of these grounds by their previously local clubs Eels and Roosters.
  • Political intervention by pork barrelling Penrith, Manly and Cronulla home grounds with upgrades / rebuilds by govts State and Federal without any demur by NRL as to their supposedly stated policy of shared grounds.
  • The loose talk of a shared ground for Bulldogs and Tigers but little to no actual plans or imprimatur from the NRL.
  • The unwillingness of govt to fund the rebuild of the show stadium at Homebush to better suit flagship NRL games and finals.
  • Single team cities / towns dont have this issue and are advantaged in facilities upgrades and rebuilds.

  • Basically prevarication and lack of continued, form direction by the NRL has led to winners and losers. Unfortunately WT remain a loser with the latest probability. Where and how are we to expend effort in addressing this? What does the NRL say?

Smelly bait.

Could we play at the Centre of Excellence Stadium .. ?? or is that not big enough in capacity .. ?? Has anyone got any recent pics of the COES to share .. ??
There is no 'stadium' there at all. It's a training field with 7 rows of seats along one side - capacity of a few hundred.

Truth is that there's hardly anything left to get attached to in Sydney for many years sadly. Probably no other large city worldwide is continuously under such a state of flux.

Has any sport worldwide gone through as much change? Clubs, grounds amd rules etc?

So LO is just a further reflection of this.

As for Ribot, I feel he has a deep attachment to the Magpies for what they done for him and has never forgotten but moved on and separated any sentiment from business.

Reality is I don't think many of us here would be as attached to RL if we were growing up today.

Not much there.

Wests Harbour Rugby will be using the COE Oval as their home ground, seating is about 2000.
BUT the ground is certainly NOT NRL suitable.

I would like to share you optimism of the NRL integrity, independence and competence!
However, on all evidence the opposite is true the NRL:
- has no integrity;
- is hugely dependent;
- has no competence!
They cannot even run properly their refs/bunker, it never recognise failures, have no mechanisms to punish and compensate for their failures etc.
So why would anyone want this laughable bunch of good-for-nothing cloud painters rule on anything more complex than under 7s lemonade sale?

Your someone in the know, doesnt know.

LO is Council owned, not state government.
