To me this whole situation of suburban grounds and/or shared grounds / stadiums has become farcical and it is directly at the door of the NRL. Shifting requirements, favoured clubs, political pork barrelling with little to no directed planning and sticking to the plan.
Recall:
- Suburban grounds to fall by the wayside and fewer shared stadiums to meet increased standards and provide better facilities and transport access to be shared around- still without NRL direction as to probable locations and who shares what grounds.
- Started with Parra Stadium followed by SFS, however any prospect of it being happily shared was negated by the wilful and self interested grab of these grounds by their previously local clubs Eels and Roosters.
- Political intervention by pork barrelling Penrith, Manly and Cronulla home grounds with upgrades / rebuilds by govts State and Federal without any demur by NRL as to their supposedly stated policy of shared grounds.
- The loose talk of a shared ground for Bulldogs and Tigers but little to no actual plans or imprimatur from the NRL.
- The unwillingness of govt to fund the rebuild of the show stadium at Homebush to better suit flagship NRL games and finals.
- Single team cities / towns dont have this issue and are advantaged in facilities upgrades and rebuilds.
- Basically prevarication and lack of continued, form direction by the NRL has led to winners and losers. Unfortunately WT remain a loser with the latest probability. Where and how are we to expend effort in addressing this? What does the NRL say?
