Liddle

@ said:
Is ironic that people are saying Liddle is not a first grader and should start looking for a new hooker, but at the same time ask that Sue's average performances be overlooked because he will be better with the pack we have next year.

I can see Liddle, Aloiai and Lawrence looking like very different players next year. Others not so much so.

I agree. Aloiai to me looks like with a defined role he is going to be a high quality player. Lawrence always belts it up at pace and runs good lines. Liddle has a lot of work to do but he is quick.

Sue to me is a massive massive concern. He played well in his last outing but he has been ordinary in the backrow and has missed tackles up the middle. I suppose Sue may come good with limited minutes up the middle.

Liddle was one of our best last week. This week, apparently not so much but may people on here (whether they admit it or not) change their minds with the wind.

If he scores or sets up a try he's the best junior we've had in years and a lock for origin in the future.

If he misses a tackle or makes a mistake then he's back to being utterly hopeless and never going to amount to anything.

It's hilarious and sad at the same time.

Someone please tell me what Liddle is going to learn in reserve grade with a bunch of nuffies and a dud coach????????????????????????

There's more to defence than not missing a tackle, if guys are carrying you on their back for 5m or players are getting offloads away then you're not defending well It doesn't matter if you don't miss a tackle.
I'm not saying that this is happening with Liddle all the time just pointing out to not get caught up in stats.

I'm hearing "he'll be better next year" but I'm not hearing any reasons why and so far I'm not seeing any reasons to be so sure that he will be better next year.

To those of you saying that he'll be better, are you just hoping he will?
How confident are you and why, convince me because all i've heard so far is he'll get better when he gains some beef but beef is just beef it doesn't make you a better player.

Impossible to convince you, its clear youve got it in for Liddle for whatever reason, did he snub you at an autograph session or somethin?
This really sounds personal

He should improve by next year having another seasons experience under his belt, he is after all only 20 and still a kid, another off season where he can add to his still growing body…he'll have a better pack around working off clearys own staff hopefully with an improved defence which will make things easier for the entire team

your go

I agree with Ink. TiGER, appreciate youve started a thread and had a say, but mate, you asked for others to comment. You cant just shoot everyone down because they share a different view.

Little is going to be NSW future 9.

Next year he will have a forward pack that will go FORWARD.
He will also have players around him that can tackle so that will help him out.

I think every hooker in the NRL would struggle in our team. Liddle is also coming on when the team is getting bashed up so it is hard for a 90kg player to make a difference.

The exact thing was being said ( very stronglby some) that our two halves would doing the same thing. 2018 was named as the annointment date by quite a few.

Theres so many now in front of both of them . that they'd be lucky to make the Nsw side in the next 5 yrs. even then they'd be extremely lucky to make it. Just on form.
The same things were being said about Cherringtonthen with him being touted to be our next big thing and it didn't take long for him to show that he was a long way off first grade.

Saying that about someone in Liddles situation , just pushes the pressure of the hype to a level that it will just make it harder for him to reach.
He may make it to a permanent spot in first grade later , but why put that sort of pressure to a young kid who is still learning how to play.
let him learn how to compete regularly against men, before expecting miracles.

\
I hope he's as good as is being said, and he doesn't get brought up permanently, prematurely .
There's plenty of time for him when he gets the body to handle a full season of first grade.

Give the kid a chance. The forwards he is playing with are often having great trouble even breaking the line. Even the captain seems to play the same every time he gets passed the ball. He takes a few steps forward, is tackled whilst standing up, and then plays the ball. This team just doesn't have any go forward. We so desperately need a new set of forwards in 2018 otherwise it will be same, same for 2018.

9 never looks good in a pack getting dominated every week. He will look good behind a back bending the line, breaking tackles, providing offloads and quick play the balls where his fast running game will shine.

Hahaaa yeah he snubbed me at an autograph session, for one I live in Qld and we don't get many autograph sessions from the Tigers on the Sunshine Coast and two, I'm not really into rugby league players autographs I'm not 10.
I don't have it in for him, I'm just struggling to see what others see and I was looking for someone to maybe point something out that I'm missing that's all.

I said the same thing about Brooks from pretty early on, I actually missed his debut so I wasn't looking at him with the same rose coloured glasses as everybody else who saw it(I still haven't seen it) but I decided I wasn't going to make a call on him until after I'd seen him play a dozen games, I'm still saying the same thing about Brooks now by the way.
Like I said I think we're seeing the same thing with Liddle as we saw with Cherrington, the wraps that I'm hearing aren't matching what I'm seeing.
It's just my opinion and judgement you don't have to agree with it.

I agree with Ink. TiGER, appreciate youve started a thread and had a say, but mate, you asked for others to comment. You cant just shoot everyone down because they share a different view.

Please point out where I shot someone down.
I just pointed out that no one was actually giving any reasons other than 'he'll be better next year'.

He just need to continue to work on his running passing and tackling like every player and he will be better next year…as he gains more FG experience...you know develop...

Fine you don't rate him no issues here... but Cleary obviously does or he wouldn't have extended his contract while he was already under contract....

If you can't see the strengths in his game fine too..but I would suggest re watching the Broncos game...

A few have given reasons why he may develop into a fine hooker, but thats the beauty of sport, there are no guarantees…so you may be disappointed if its convincing youre after

When would you expect Liddle to handle 80 minutes as a hooker in FG at his age? I would like to think early 2018 after another preseason and the rest of 2017 seeing decent minutes.

Well that's part of my concern too, how long do we wait to find out if he's the 9 that we require to take us where we need to be?
We can't keep waiting for these players with "potential" from what I've seen he's potential is limited anyway.
I just think it's an important position and we can't afford to gamble on it which is what I feel we're doing with Liddle, do we have a cash out option?
When should we think about using it?

a hooker that is reasonably unnoticeable at 20 years old is a good thing in my opinion. That means he's got a good foundation (which he does - nice service, can kick and can run) but needs to improve some of the more flashy things that makes you a top 5-10 hooker in the comp. once he is more smart and confident over the next year or two i reckon you'll start seeing far more quantity of good runs and nice short kicks in their 20.

is there anyone really beating down the door to take his spot as a forward that will significantly bolster our team? if so, maybe he needs some more time in reggies and another full off season to develop. if not, dont see any harm in giving him more experience

I wonder if he does develop into a fine player whether he will stay. Or are we just developing more players for the benefit of other clubs. And in the meantime fans have to endure watching developing players hence our current position.
