LIVE 9's Thread*

Much better effort today. Brooks kicking game was good, and don't think he missed too many tackles.

Over the weekend was impressed by ET, Felise, Eisenhuth & MCK.

Hunt, Rankin, McIllwrick, JLJ should be kept well away from 1st grade, as should Heleta if required to defend in the front line.

Suli looked good in patches, maybe a smokey for a wing spot. Appears to have good strength, but does anyone know how quick he is?

See, the forum is already feeling better. Going to be fun year.

Not really , we are still showing signs of having massive variances between our best and worst

Guys it's not JT's fault we sucked in the first day.
Why shouldn't your second string halves be able to organise a team in the nines.
Look at the titans with Tyler cornish,
Storm with Brodie Croft.
Manly with pita Godinet and Cameron Cullen
Roosters with conner Watson.
At least what we got out of the first day is the confirmation that Rankin and Littlejohn should be no where near our first grade side and that Heleta can only play fullback if we require.
It's time we signed a guinuine backup half like Tyler cornish or Cameron Cullen.
Who wants Brooks to leave at the end of the season now?

I'm not basing anyone's form from the 9's on who should and shouldn't be in the side. It's beyond ridiculous to judge players on their first proper hit out in months, in this format no less. So no my opinion on Brooks for the moment will remain till I see him when the actual season starts.

Suli looks good considering he played what 2 games last year. Needs some time in the Reggies to get it all together but if he stays fit I'm pretty sure we'll see him in first grade at some point. Centre seems like his position.

As for the nines there are a stack of starters for the NRL team who didn't play so it's hard to really get a gauge on things. Brooks looked better today but some of the B-listers played like that.

It must be hard for the players who are picked,JT comes out before the tournament and says they dont have much interest in the nines, they dont pick a strong team and obviously wouldnt train as hard as other teams for the nines. So you show up on the day to play vs the knights and what is going through your mind?Other teams want to win, they want to be there and are ready.

Happy with the effort. Very happy with Brooks controlling the game. His short kicking was near perfect.

That was the highlight. Contrasting styles as Brisbane treated it like touch football where we had a little bit of structure which worked well. More so pleased with the effort in this game which was sadly lacking yesterday. Simona didn't really look interested out there though.

Do you honestly believe any team "trains" at all for the 9's?

Brooks looked good and I'd like to see that continue.
But I wasn't exactly blowing on Brook's trumpet.
I was more highlighting the fact that JLJ couldn't organise a chook raffle and Rankin looks horrible in whatever position he plays in.
God help us if we loose either moses or brooks or teddy in the season.
It may not be brooks or moses in 2018, but for those thinking you get away with a part time half in the 6 or 7 will be disapointed.

Anyone going to predict an Aloiai-style bolter for round 1 based on those games? Is Suli a chance? Eisenhuth?

After watching the 9's , Moses and Tedesco just added 300 k to their asking price

I'd put more stock in JLJ's games from last year where he proved a great foil for Moses as opposed to judging him in this Mickey Mouse circus.

I don't understand what people are so upset about. If JT had of come out and said that we believe in the 9s as a bona fide tournament and will be doing everything in our powers to win it - then yes i would be peeved at the total lack of committment. But when he came out and said that they haven't trained for it, have no desire to win it and are more focused on the real comp - i for one am quite happy they just went through the motions.

I dont understand JTs, the clubs, or your attitude

If we seriously challenged the ''real comp'' year in year out..then yes, I can understand it.
But we suck at everything we play in just about….we are a poor team, poor club with a poor coach who really should be striving to get the best from his players....ahh forget it

You fighting with JT, sounds like a lovers tiff lol.

Your childish homophobic posts saw your other acct banned last time.

Bright people learn from their mistakes.
Youre not learning.

"Some of you blokes take this way too seriously ". Im quoting you lol lol lol.

Better performance today because the coach fielded the best team. Why on earth it didn't happen yesterday is beyond my understanding - are you more likely to get injuries on Saturday's rather than Sunday's ? Absolute joke. I hope there was a phone call from Pascoe last night giving all involved a massive blast.

Yes this ^^^ Littlejohn paired with Moses is a whole different dynamic.

Can't understand the anger from many people about the effort or results, seriously would people still be talking the same if one of our star players got a season ending injury if they put in the supposed effort that many here were looking for? The 9's should be scrapped, don't see the need for it besides a little weekend of fun for fans and players. Goes to show that some of us have been missing the footy more than others.

Youre more likely to get hurt or injured going in half hearted.

Yes tigerlogic, Parra Brisbane and NQ looked really tired
Youre so far off the mark its not funny

You really are getting your knickers in a knot arent you.

From what i have seen, JT has wanted the following things out of this tournament.

One is to show Brooks that he is disposable off and he better get his finger out of his behind if he wants the money he is asking for.

Two is to take alot of the fringe first graders or players who will most likely be playing reggies such MCK, Hunt, JLL, HELETA, and from all accounts Rankin and hope one of them really stands out.

Three is to throw some youngsters in there such as Sulli and Marsters and see how they go.

Obviously they didnt do as well as we would have liked, but come round 1 it means nothing. JT has put all his eggs in the NRL proper season and thats were we crave success. Our success or performance in the nines will have zero bearing on that. If we were to go deep in the nines or even win it , would JT be re -signed? ? Hell no. So i will judge him and the team on the season proper where it really counts. Go the tigers.

Imagine how good we would be in the 13 man game if we let Brooks play both sides of the ruck & run the game like this! One of the biggest hand-breaks Taylor puts on our halves is making them play left & right. They have the ability & experience playing with each other to play as genuine first & second receiver & I think this game (even though it's 9s) has showed how good we could be with Brooks in total control.

Can't disagree with your thoughts there Benjirific, but it still concerns me that both Moses and Brooks play heaps better when they aren't actually together on the field! I can't work this out at all, they've played all their footy together, yet they often look quite lost when they're on the field at the same time. I can only put it down to a battle for control of the plays - if so, they need to sort it out pronto, otherwise one of them will have to go!
