LIVE 9's Thread*

Much better effort today. Brooks kicking game was good, and don't think he missed too many tackles.

Over the weekend was impressed by ET, Felise, Eisenhuth & MCK.

Hunt, Rankin, McIllwrick, JLJ should be kept well away from 1st grade, as should Heleta if required to defend in the front line.

Suli looked good in patches, maybe a smokey for a wing spot. Appears to have good strength, but does anyone know how quick he is?

Rankin should be kept away from the club.

I'm not basing anyone's form from the 9's on who should and shouldn't be in the side. It's beyond ridiculous to judge players on their first proper hit out in months, in this format no less. So no my opinion on Brooks for the moment will remain till I see him when the actual season starts.

Brooks looked good and I'd like to see that continue.
But I wasn't exactly blowing on Brook's trumpet.
I was more highlighting the fact that JLJ couldn't organise a chook raffle and Rankin looks horrible in whatever position he plays in.
God help us if we loose either moses or brooks or teddy in the season.
It may not be brooks or moses in 2018, but for those thinking you get away with a part time half in the 6 or 7 will be disapointed.

I'd put more stock in JLJ's games from last year where he proved a great foil for Moses as opposed to judging him in this Mickey Mouse circus.

Yes this ^^^ Littlejohn paired with Moses is a whole different dynamic.

From left field, in first grade play them together with Moses at centre.

All you ever want is effort and if you play with plenty of effort you will win more than you lose. Today was a total reverse to yesterday.

Anyway once again it is only a nines novelty event, but good players and good teams want to win at everything they do and against anyone.

Brisbane come from 15 nil down to then take to long to take kick in front to take lead, 15 to 14 1 minute to go

When you sell a jersey for $170 to commemorate the event, name a squad that can compete. Why would you want a memory of an event our Club doesn't want to be involved in.

Maybe the club should have DILLIGAF emblazoned across the jersey as a memento, that would be appropriate.

Can't understand the anger from many people about the effort or results, seriously would people still be talking the same if one of our star players got a season ending injury if they put in the supposed effort that many here were looking for? The 9's should be scrapped, don't see the need for it besides a little weekend of fun for fans and players. Goes to show that some of us have been missing the footy more than others.

Youre more likely to get hurt or injured going in half hearted.

Yes tigerlogic, Parra Brisbane and NQ looked really tired
Youre so far off the mark its not funny

You really are getting your knickers in a knot arent you.

From what i have seen, JT has wanted the following things out of this tournament.

One is to show Brooks that he is disposable off and he better get his finger out of his behind if he wants the money he is asking for.

Two is to take alot of the fringe first graders or players who will most likely be playing reggies such MCK, Hunt, JLL, HELETA, and from all accounts Rankin and hope one of them really stands out.

Three is to throw some youngsters in there such as Sulli and Marsters and see how they go.

Obviously they didnt do as well as we would have liked, but come round 1 it means nothing. JT has put all his eggs in the NRL proper season and thats were we crave success. Our success or performance in the nines will have zero bearing on that. If we were to go deep in the nines or even win it , would JT be re -signed? ? Hell no. So i will judge him and the team on the season proper where it really counts. Go the tigers.

^^^^^^ Too much logic in that post for this Forum

Imagine sending a near full strength squad…Having a conversion drop goal virtually in front to take the lead with a minute to go and you kick it but not within the specified time...

Not sure if they took it seriously...

Easts giving it to brisbane, make of that what you will

The Roosters have got a decent squad for this format - Latrell Mitchell, Daniel Tupou, Joseph Manu, Connor Watson, Ryan Matterson - I'm not surprised they're doing well. We need to steal some back line players from them for 2018…

Just watched the first half of the Cowboys v Melbourne game.

JAC has not yet learned the art of defence.

Still, just a mickey mouse format.

Should have kept watching, he scored another try, saved one on a runaway Ponga who is quick. He is so far ahead of JT's golden child Rankin it is not funny, a real dumb decision not to give the kid the little money he wanted to stay.

Would be good to get a couple of them, they have a host of good players who are going to be playing NSW Cup.

Let's compare the Storm, Cows, and say Roosters youngsters to ours. I know scary right.
The young no 7 from Melbourne once again made Brooks look second rate.
Our young guys look nowhere near what I'm seeing from other clubs. I've just chosen 3 clubs here I could easily have chosen more.

And yet they will still chase after the likes of Tedesco, Bird and Moses - never satisfied, always greedy. Makes me

as per every other nines, we were terrible. I know we had a second string team, but gee the defence was terrible, looks like things have not changed at tiger town.

I know, and that is not factoring in how they manage to fit them all in under the cap.

What about Penrith. Basically sent a 2nd rate squad, said that the comp was not a priority for them abut they have some very good youngsters in that squad. I would not mind Dylan Edwards somewhere in our backline.

Imagine how good we would be in the 13 man game if we let Brooks play both sides of the ruck & run the game like this! One of the biggest hand-breaks Taylor puts on our halves is making them play left & right. They have the ability & experience playing with each other to play as genuine first & second receiver & I think this game (even though it's 9s) has showed how good we could be with Brooks in total control.

Can't disagree with your thoughts there Benjirific, but it still concerns me that both Moses and Brooks play heaps better when they aren't actually together on the field! I can't work this out at all, they've played all their footy together, yet they often look quite lost when they're on the field at the same time. I can only put it down to a battle for control of the plays - if so, they need to sort it out pronto, otherwise one of them will have to go!

I actually believe that the drop in performance when they are both on the field together relates back to the structure they are ask to play. It is the fact when they both play they are playing as left and right halves, they play better as a half and 5/8th, allowing them to play both sides of the field. When one of them is out this structure is relaxed and they are allowed more freedom over the field.

So your concerns actually relate back to the post you quoted.
