LIVE game discussion. Tigers Team Vs Penrith - Trial#2

Madden’s game management was a highlight of both trials and with Luai an off the cuff player, I can’t help thinking Madden will end up in the 7.

Latu has get his body right and Andrews is probably not quite at that grade.
My take on the halves debate thus far;
Doueihi and Luai will be in the run on side Round 2.
But when together attacking in the red zone they don't stand deep enough! Who is dictating the play I don't know. Benji needs to sort this out. If Benji wants to keep this as his preferred attack weapon he needs to take a leaf out of Maddens play book [via the Broncos Reynolds] on the kicking and positional changes in attack IMO.
Madden had Andrews so deep the defence were confused who to defend. Clean ball and time for attack options, especially down the left with the fullback and decoy runners. Lethal. Plenty of points there.

The interesting point here is, how does Madden match up with Luai?
Who manages the positional play? Who calls the shots? Who's the boss?
Madden the manager or Luai the captain.
Have they trained together as a 7--6 combo?
Benji will go grey soon working on this dilemma. Top 8 now an expected as a must.
Benji now under pressure with his game plans but plenty of room to maneuver with his quality depth.

Our halves looked good in the first half, though I wonder who is first in pecking order between Andrews and Madden

With AD and Fainu’s history of injuries, it probably won’t be long before one is called up

We have a problem on our hands fitting Luai, AD, Latu and Andrews in the same squad

I think it might be time we transition Latu into a full-time lock, maybe give him a few 80 minute games there in cup
Latu needs to get his body right then set out on earning a role in first grade with some consistent footy.

Andrews looks the goods but not this year for me.

Leaves a two way go between AD and Madden and form should dictate who gets the jersey. AD’s versatility will be handy.

That’s my two cents.

Mate Javon is a good at kicking goals and did so in origin but just got to be careful with him he had a few injuries no need to rush him

But he is all class and the little things the way he turn inside held the ball drew in the defence then passed outside just half a second

And he has a big step on him and turn of speed

And the way he hit the winger for the try the vision
Yep that cut out pass was pure class. Luckily Mason had the vision to let it through.

Not many mention of how well the forwards were.
I though Bunty was outstanding in attack and defence. And big minutes compared to Royce.
Another who excelled IMO was Sione. In attack and D.
Line speed was good also. They all played with intent.
With May and KPP watching on. All augers well for 2026.
Gut feel it’s Royce that misses out on the bench spot.

It was interesting that the second-half Panthers were not quite as good as the second-half Tigers, and that's why we ran away with it.

I can't make much comment about whether that bodes well for our depth, because I didn't really recognise who the Panthers threw on. Also we kept throwing our fringe firsties back on after a rest (e.g. Murray, Hope, Sukkar), so it wasn't necessarily a proper reflection of how we would usually finish matches.

That being said, Penrith defended really well with first and second string sides, so we were forced to do a lot with the ball. The entire Tigers side also defended fairly well, esp. good first contact, even though at times we were losing the ruck speed.
