My biggest issue with Reynolds, is things like when Brooks was tackled and played the ball on the 5th tackle during the 1st half. We had 2 forwards put on a play on the last, this is when you need your 2nd playmaker and most experienced player to step in and demand the ball. These sorts of things happen too often with Reynolds, he is not there when he should be, if it was a one off then fair enough but it is not a one off.
I saw Brooks get tackled three times on the 5th, leaving the sixth play tackle option up to someone else.
I really think we need a half that can manage the game, even the sixth play, because it's not Brooks specialty.
Like Reynolds who TWICE passed it to a prop on the 6th? (lucky on the first that the Cowboys couldbt believe it).
Was it Anasta who gave it to Reynolds for not taking control when Brooks was tackled? Seems a terribly individual action to not be in position to takeover from your halves partner when he is tackled on the fifth tackle.
Exactly. Reynolds had a terrible game. He was very lucky that our attack and their defence in the first half overrode his stupidity. He got SO lucky on that first try, Brooks was calling for it on the left and on his right he had both props and Twal on the last, and he passed to Musgrove. That thing he was doing screaming up out of the line, in our own ten was terrifying me, luckily Cowboys were so bad they couldnt capitalise on it and he stopped doing it after no doubt a prompt from Madge at half time.
What I don't quite understand is we score 34 points in 40 minutes, ***mostly set up by Reynolds***, passes and kicks, and people are still bagging him. No one even made a break through his rushing out of the line in defence, in fact the opposition didn't even score a point. Yes, he threw an intercept, only because he was trying something which, if it connected was most certainly another Tigers try. With Reynolds starting, we've won by a margin and gone awful close to last years Grand Finalist. What more do you want?
And using an Anasta observation to bag a bloke? Says it all really.
You have a very different recollection of the first half than I do.
Try 1 REynolds gets a TA by screwing up and passing to a prop on the last (Brooks was calling for it left and as soon as Musgrove got it, Garner was pointing back for the pass, it was an error).
Try 2 REynolds passes it to Douiehi who puts BJ in space. Reynolds did nothing other than standard catch and pass.
Try 3 Reynolds a panicked catch and pass to Nofo after Grants kick into the back of the cowboys. Try set up by great work by Nofo and Mbye, nothing to do with Reynolds.
Try 4 Reynolds did zero and didnt touch the ball, Grant sets up Alioia.
Try 5 Reynolds nowhere near it, doesnt touch the ball. Grant -Brooks -Mbye ->Jennings.
Try 6 - Reynolds kick results in a try. Not a good kick, didnt go to hand, landed 20m short of the line, but it was his kick and it did result in a try.
So Reynolds screwed up and resulted in the first try and then puts in a mediocre kick on the back of a great Nofo break that after some pinball results in a try.......but the 34points were ***mostly*** set up by REynolds? You might have to walk me through how that works.
So basically, what you're saying is, Reynolds made an error by throwing a pass which led to a try and should instead have thrown the ball wide to a halfback who was going to do what?
Yes, I am saying exactly that. Although it led to a try, for a playmaker to throw the ball to a prop on the last...TWICE in a game is beyond incompetent.
Douiehi's pass put BJ into space to score was worth noting but Reynolds pass to put Douiehi into space was just a standard catch and pass.
Pretty much, Douiehi did all the heavy lifting for that try. Reynolds was standard 5/8 link, catch and pass.
Great work by Nofo and Mbye, panicked pass from Reynolds. Why can't it be great work from JR to recover the ball and pass to the man in the best position to do something.
Because he didnt. Yes he recovered the ball and threw it to the bloke next to him, in the OPPOSITE direction to the way the play had to go. This is your definition of playmaking?
His kick that led to a try went to a bloke who tried to catch it with his eyes closed, perfectly placed if he looked up to catch it.
It wasnt a bad kick.
He's had a hand in 4 of the 6 tries.
He has touched the ball, in 4 of the six tries, he contributed to two. He is also the 5/8 and should touch the ball that many times. You are the one saying that our 34 points were MOSTLY due to Reynolds, Its garbage.
>If Brooks had done the same you'd be naming him in the SOO side as captain.
Nah, Reynolds had a poor game. If Luke Brooks, dropped a kick cold, continually ran out of the line, threw it to a prop twice on the last, kicked on the 3rd when we are under the pump, then threw a ridiculous low percentage intercept pass that cost us a try, then go AWOL when his half partner got tackled on the 5th.......I would be calling for him to be dropped.
But.....you know......energy.
You're bagging a bloke who's having a proper go, something that's been missing for a while. Give us all a break.
Having a go for Reynolds equals running like a chook with its head cut off and making all of the most basic mistakes. Id be happy with Reynolds "energy" as a pick up and pass dummy half but at 6 he is a massive liability. Where did the coach (or captain) move Reynolds for the kick off returns? Feldt kept kicking it to the same place and Nofo had to do it for him for the rest of the night.
Most of the the 34 were from Reynolds? Give ME a break.
