I thought we really gave it a shot out.

Here are some random thoughts on players that I thought stood out.

Brooks - he was good. He just doesn't seem to have the ability to go all game. He makes way too many mistakes. Heaps of poor passes.
Tui - I think he is possibly as good as Tedesco when it comes to running the footy but he has more to his game. He is a better passer and kicker of the footy.
Woods - he has a great offload but he has so many negatives in the game. Probably the worst defensive prop in the game. It's good that he is going.
Tedesco - great at times. Solid at times. Hog and glory plays that kill us. He could be missed but he isn't worth the huge dollars he is getting.
ET - this guy is consistently good and consistently making critical tackles all game.
Kev - good but another guy who makes heaps of dumb plays. We need better.
Twal/Eisenhuth - these guys both look good.

if you truly believe Woods is the worst defensive prop in the game you should seek professional help.

I might be wrong but who is worse than him defensively. It's a serious question as well.

Ava is worse. Sue is worse. Woods made 37 tackles, missed 2, played the full 80 minutes. He also ran for almost 200 metres. To hate the guy is fine, but he was really good today.

I enjoyed the game. We (again) lost our way in second half …. did not give up but the leadership was not there.
LoLo Brooks combo is looking better each week.
We missed Liddle and MM did not step up today.
Woods and Teddy tried hard but in the end the T brothers finished well ahead.
To me next year's roster will definitely improve this side and hopefully our recruitment should continue .... particularly with addition of at least another 2 forwards and a back.
I was again disappointed at our continued problems at our right side defence ... when will Nofa learn to stay with his man. Also Taylor, Sue and Lawrence seem to be going backwards in lots of areas of their game.
".............. here's hoping we can hold our game together better next week and roll the eels.

As I've said in the past. It's not the fact Woods is a poor player. He is an ineffective prop.
Those minutes and stats should see him in a 13 jersey. Which opens up the opportunity to have more punchy front rowers. If that was to be the case. Woods work on the field would only help compliment quick aggressive front rowers.
I wonder if Des would have the smarts to make that his role next year?!

Des probably won't even be there.

I do not understand the hate towards Woods the last 2 outings he has put in ..today played the full 80 after Origin as a supporter I could not ask for more..I am not a real woods fan but in all fairness the guy has put in of late!

I'm not sure that Ava and Sue are worse than Woods defensively. I honestly don't think that is a fair assessment of those two players. Sue is really poor laterally but Woods is poor laterally and lazy. Maybe Woods is playing too many minutes. Woods offloads are great. Some of his hit-ups are decent.

I definitely didn't see Ava and Sue miss tackles or be as lazy defensively today. Based on that game Woods is poorer defensively than those two.

I don't see the lock and prop positions as that different in today's game. They are basically interchangeable. Woods big positives are his minutes and his offloads. His metres are pretty poor per hit-up. His play the balls are slow. His defence is pretty ordinary.

I agree that he is putting in. He played 80 minutes today backing up from origin. He got some great offloads away. We can play off the back of that and it makes a massive difference.

At the same time I can see heaps of negatives about his play.

As I said not a Fan of Woods my observations are a reflection on his attitude of late, and yes there are negatives.

Agree with all this there are positives and negatives in his game, his defense has been very costly lately…but hate?
Such a strong childish, word

I would guess that there is a massive difference to Woods' baseline stats, his metres and tackles, and the macro stats which tell the story of how effective he is at achieving the baseline stats. I would bet my bottom dollar he concedes more post contact metres than he gains for example, he very rarely stops a man in his tracks, cannot remember him ever using his shoulder as he predominately arm grabs.

He is like our version of Gallen without the grunt. Touches the ball too often and stifles our game. He definitely impacts the metres of the other forwards when he is on the park, although I think that may be to laziness of our hookers than by any of his own fault.

Our backrow is abysmal - there is zero impact there. I'm just looking at the Cowboys backrow of Taumalolo, Hess and Cooper and Souths' Burgess, Crichton and Fuimaono and I just shake my head at how far behind we are. Chris McQueen isn't going to make any difference on his own.

Someone has previously said Teddy doesn't train with the team much due to his knees, does anyone know of he trains on a roundabout by himself?

Yes I agree ….. there must be some quality to be added there or we are no better off next year.

The issue we have are lapses and errors in games. Rewind the tape and these plays cost us the game.
1\. Brooks terrible read for the Lane try.
2\. Woods lazy and stopping in the line for Teds no try.
3\. Brooks terrible passes to Eisenhuth in the middle with support players trailing.
4\. Teddy dropping a great offload from Edwards.
5\. Brooks terrible crash ball to Lawrence on the line.
6\. Woods/Mcilwrick poor marker defence for Trbo try.
7\. Nofa Bad Edge D after the bad Brooks knock on call.

If we reverse half of these errors we win the game.

This is a great point. IMO McQueen is just more of the same. I like Twal and Eisenhuth but I still reckon our 2018 pack needs more size and punch.

Manly's starting back row ran for 350m, ours for less than 130m.

Jake T ran for more metres than our staring 11, 12 and 13 combined.

I only caught snippets of the game, will watch a replay later, but what happened to sue? I run all game for 9m?

We r still a team that are not doing the 1 percenters and made a losing culture like the blues. Annoyed me in the 65 minutes last tackle on esan masters side the ball hits the ground Esan chases after the ball but evens picked it up before him and instead of chasing evens for the tackle he jogged to the side line . Evens picks it up has time to put a good kick in goal and gets the repeat set. Pretty much sums up our team.

Yes that makes sense the guy who coming off Origin plays 80 minutes at prop a few days later makes 200 meters and almost 40 tackles is the lazy one - yup yup yup well obviosuly it is the keyboard warriors who are geniuses their and not the genuine footy experts. Then again Ink hasn't said anything worth hearing since well umm well never so not a surprise really.

Tigers played great today against a top 4 team at home a traditional graveyard for visitng teams.

Can't say their was a bad player and if we play like that every week we would be in the finals

Another fool blinded by stats

I don't know what your expectations are, seriously. I am not as rosy about is as Boon, it was good in patches and I do wish we had that intensity every week, but it shows as a side we really can't compete with the Top 8 over 80 mins if the opposition plays alright.

But if we had 2 or 3 guys who could play 80 mins, run 200m and make 40 tackles we'd make the Top 4 every season. It's not just stats, I watched the game intently as I do every week, Woods was essentially our only genuine go-forward and Manly struggled to contain him every time. He had nil support, the backrow did nothing and nobody got within cooee of 100 m except Ava who managed 101.

People have this mistaken notion that only super-aggressive tactical props make any impact, that you have to smash it up like JWH or Junior Paulo or you are a fat, lazy slug. I really do wish Woods had a higher top gear, I wish he would lean in with his shoulder and bury the opposition. He doesn't and it's something for him to continue to work on.

At the same time, he played 80 mins yesterday. That's ridiculous for any prop, not to mention someone 5 games off an Origin.

We made 12 offloads yesterday and 25% of those were from Woods. Yeah Woods missed a bad tackle, so did MMc at exactly the same time, then Tedesco 1 second later. We missed 33 tackles total and let in 5 tries - Woods personally responsible for 2 MTs and 1 of those tries.

People want Woods to be what he isn't - a dynamic mover. Props come in 20 varieties and Woods is a slugger with a big motor, one of the best in that mold, I don't know why anyone expects Gillmeister tackling and Gareth Ellis mobility.

I also don't know how anyone can be a fat, lazy slug churning out 80 minute performances. He's imperfect for sure, but by far our best and most consistent forward and has been for about 5 straight years… but you want more. I just smell too much bitterness about this, beyond the performances, putting in the boot because he's moving on. I'm all for putting the boot in where deserved, but since he signed w Canterbury Woods has shut his mouth and lead from the front on the field, hence why Cleary has let him keep his captaincy.
