Lockyer v Johns

As I stated in a earlier comment, this is truely a state vs state opinion. You only need to look at how many people south of the border have no idea what DL brings to a football team.

As to Andrew Johns, well I've said it for years… Buderus always made Johns look good. Beddsy at dummy half always gave Andrew greater room to stand wider of the ruck and realistically play the 'new' 7 role. Coaches have been trying to replicate this '7' role for the last 5 years without great success, with the exception to Jonathon Thurston. They too havent yet realised it is only possible with the right Hooker/Dummy Half, Tigers included...

You only have to watch the games Johns played without Danny, and he would get shut down far to easy being closer to the ruck.... Andrew Johns will always be "the greatest player in the world" that Channel Nine could make!!!

Cant agree with any of that, Joey was well and truely a superstar before Buderus even got to hooker. Danny didn't get to hooker until 2000, Joey had won a comp by than, starred at origin and test level.
Danny was a good hooker, but he had no effect at all on how Joey played, his pass was not overly strong, he was good at drawing the marker which helped the forwards.
Joey's didn't start any wider than any other halfback and one of his greatest strengths was attacking in behind the play the ball area.

Johns never played a dominant role in SOO until the 2002 series… Any talk of him being dominant prior to this is just rubbish and NSW hype.

As to his efforts in the Australian jumper, he had an imposing record as a goal kicker, but it doesnt go much further... His best ever performance for Australia was the 1995 World Cup. A team he would never been picked in if not for the ARL excluding SL aligned players... In fact, if Johns didnt get his break for NSW & Australia due to the ARL War, one would suggest he wouldnt of played for State or Country before 1999/2000.

I still rate the guy, but no where near the level that some are pushing his barrel ahead of Lockyer.

I think at some stage you have decided that Joey isn't that good, and have tried to find reasons to justify your position.
The fact earlier that you said it goes down to statelines prob declares your bias.

Despite being a Blue, my top 10 is virtually all QLDers (including number 1), I dont really have state bias', Joey is a genius, your justification that Beddsy made him look good, or he should not have been in the team except for Superleague is some of the most ridiculous stuff I've read.

When Joey was playing he was undisputed best player in the world from about 98 to he retired, he won 3 Dally M's a Clive Churchill

The blues won 6 series to 2 from 97-2003 (excluding 2001 as Johns was out injured), Johns with 4 man of the matches

the reason everyone says he is that good is because he is!

if joey was a queenslander watto would be demanding a joey statue out the front of sunkorp

If Joey had been a Qlder I reckon the one and only time you would of won Origin would of been 1985 :roll

I may be biased but Johns was dominant in every aspect of the game. He could throw the pass, run the ball, place the kick, and if the forwards weren't doing their job, he do the grunt work too. I've never seen anyone like him.

… in short, get him up here. I wanna boof him!!

Exactly

Johns was a game changer Lockyer was a game finisher. Johns was a freak, Lockyer had a level head. if johns played with the broncos his whole career under Bennett, johns would of been scary. Lewis>johns>Lockyer.
